Anyone got any ideas on what the Mets could do?

The obvious answer is to acquire an outfielder. But if they acquire a legit starter, what do you do once Alou and Chavez return? And another 4th/5th OFer type wouldn't really provide much of a help.

Perhaps one of the Cubs excess OFers (Jacque Jones, Cliff Floyd, Matt Murton)?

Tonight Cohen and Darling made reference to the '99 team, when Steve Phillips fired a couple coaches. I doubt that would have much of an impact on such a veteran team.

Play better? I don't really think its a talent issue, the team is just playing like shit. I don't think any of the Cubs OFers you mention are worth acquiring. Dunn would never happen but that would be my choice if anyone.

    Adam Dunn? The Strike-Out Prince?

(The Strike-Out King is my boy Mike Cameron)

I have to agree about the main thing is playing better. The Cubs OFers mentioned are really only worth considering if Alou is going to be out for a real extended period of time (becoming more and more likely). That said, Murton and Jones look like excellent buy-low candidates right now, Jones especially.

The problem with Dunn is that in his contract, if he is traded, his team option for 2008 becomes voided. Considering the talent this team has on offense (despite the struggles in June), I can't trade an top-level prospect (Milledge, Gomez, Pelfrey, Humber, Martinez, Guerra) for a rental bat.

at the beginning when the mets were winning and beating everyone they didnt need anybody really now that they are losing, they need someone? WTF.

did you think the mets was going to keep on winning and winning? this is baseball you have win streaks and losing streaks it happens, the yanks were losing now the are winning.

not everybody can be the 98 yankees.

Dunn's strikeouts aren't a real flaw because he also walks a ton. Look at his OBPs.

Ks only become a flaw when a player only either gets a hit or strikes out.

So they'd work something out before they traded for him, it's not like they can't afford to sign him long term.

Yeah, I think the talent is there, particularly in the offense. If we were to trade for anything, it would have to be starting pitching (despite a bad stretch, the bullpen is fine).

I agree with everyone saying that we're good talent-wise. We're just in a point where all 25 guys (except for Wright, I guess) are in a major slump, and everyone including Wright is just not getting runners home. Our pitching's been sub-par in every aspect other than Sosa's outing in our last win. It's just a team-wide slump guys. Sure, a Dunn or an Ichiro wouldn't hurt by any stretch of the mind, but I still think we're solid and we have the best talent pool in the NL. It's not time to push the panic button and last I checked, we were still in first place in the east and we just need to right the ship and get back on pace.
