First of all, the idea of getting lots of runners on base is not small ball in any way shape or form. Second, while the WS winning Yankees teams were built around that idea, so have been the Yankees teams of the last few years. Only, they also hit more HRs now. You've got to explain to me how exactly this works.
The flaw with that is that Giambi was the #5 hitter, whose sole job it was was to drive in runs. He walked a lot. That's not helping. That's what I'm trying to say. Stats can lie. His OBP was high, but so were his walks and HBPs. When the middle of your lineup is walking it's killing you twice. Once since it's not driving in the top of your order, then again when the bottom comes up and doesn't drive you in.
Small ball, bunting, hit and runs, stealing bases. The essential parts of the game. If you don't have baserunners, you can't do any of them. You want an explanation, but I already gave it to you. The more power packed into the lineup, the less guys were on base. That leads to solo shots, which don't have the effect that a 3 run dinger do. Add that to the problem of a guy going cold in the middle, and dragging guys down with him, and you have a great formula for failure. But if you just want to continue to argue, I really don't feel like it anymore. I have my opinions, and it's the way I percieve the game. If you don't agree, more power to you. It's obvious neither of us is going to ever agree with the other. I'll just enjoy watching the hits stockpile as Giambi keeps trying to avoid Bud's attack dog.
I'm not trying to argue, the WS winning Yankee teams were at the top of the league in OBP and so have the been the teams of the last few seasons? Who were these sluggers that the Yankees added that hampered the teams ability to get on base? Giambi, Sheffield, Abreu, A-Rod all great OBP guys.
Three solo shots is the exact same thing as one 3 run shot. Then that lies on Torre to put him in the 3 hole instead of the 5. You say you want baserunners, then get excited that the guy who is getting on base 4th most on your roster is out? That makes no sense to me.
*shrug* It's my take. I'm happy Sheffield is playing in Detroit, and Giambi is gimping his way out of the investigator's path. Seems to be working. 7 in a row, and 10 of 12 is hard to argue with. Like 2K07 said, .500!!!
yankees are coming, not the redcoats. for redsox fans. how many times must the yankees keep you sox in second place, ummm how many times has it been in the past 15 years? hmmmm i think you know... if you pay attention to baseball you know what happens at the second half of the season.
Wow do you ever stop making us look bad? Ease up a little bit. You wouldn't get so much shit if you didn't hand it out first
I love how this written as though it's some sort of comeback against the Sox fans for talking smack. Too bad none of them actually have.
actually it was i made this statement on another thread but that certain person didnt read it, so i posted it again here, i had it in the yankees pirates thread, so investigate before making dumb statements and this post was not directed to you alio to whoever made those ridiculous statements towards me, people should ask before assuming.
You posted a response to something, in a totally different thread, then say I'm the one who is making dumb statements. Why the **** would I "investigate" before responding? I should now go scour old threads before I respond to one of your posts? Are you serious?
Oh, I read it. It was just far to retarded to be worth my time to respond to. If you actually think any past event has anything to do with what will happen this season you have some sort of brain damage.
