They were just saying on ESPN that the Reds might be looking to trade him. Should the Mets go after him and what could we give for him? Milledge, Pelfrey and a prospect or 2? I really have no clue when it comes to trade value in baseball. I'd love to see Griffey Jr on the Mets. He's probably my favorite non-Met player.
I dont think the Mets should or will go after him. With his contract and the young guys they have coming up in the next couple of years its a bad call. When Chavez gets healthy with Alou then the Mets OF will be fine

Yeah, he's a walking DL visit to begin with. And he's nearing the end of his career. You don't want to make the same mistake the Yankees have made, picking up aged vets who can't contribute a lot. You've got enough role-playing old men already. The youth is what brings you the titles. Griffey will wind up back in the AL. He'll be a DH for another 5 or 6 years, then retire.

He'd be an obvious upgrade in the outfield, and another big bat in that brutal lineup. But then again, he's due for the 60-day DL within the next week or two, so go ahead, trade Manny for him, and kill two birds with one stone for me!
No. No Griffey, no Ichiro, no Andruw Jones, NO OLD CENTER FIELDER! Be a little patient, don't give up anything, and have Ellsbury in CF next year.
if the Reds want to trade him, it is because they don't see value in his salary and want to dump it. coming from that position, the team trading for him is in a far more advantageous position and would never have to give up as much as you propose.
Since Ellsbury is the next all-time home run champ who'll win a gold glove every year in his career and a silver slugger award to go along with all those MVPs he'll win.:lol: Moss > Ellsbury
Ellsbury is projected to be a consistent .300 hitter with decent power, a high OBP, 30+ steals, and outstanding defense in CF. Why waste money/prospects to get a centerfielder when the best prospect in your system plays that position and is very close to being ready? EDIT: Moss is garbage.

I still say get rid of Crisp pick up either Jones/Ichiro and then bring up this kid in '09 when Manny decides to leave as he said he would when his contract is up.
No. You can have gap power, which he has showed throughout his career. He projects as a leadoff type, not a cleanup type. Ellsbury at Portland this year- 17 games .452 BA, 10 2B, 2 3B, 13 RBI, 8 SB, .518 OBP, .644 SLG. He's been in AAA a month, and struggled at first. He has since started hitting again and is getting on base at a very good rate. I never said he was ready now. I said he should start in CF next year, and to be patient and wait for him. Although his numbers aren't bad by any means, and he probably could be at least replacement level now. And I still say why waste prospects/money doing that? And get it right. Manny is under contract through the 2010 season. He's not leaving anytime soon unless the front office wants him to.
Griffey has always hated New York, and I doubt he has any desire to play for the Mets. Moreover, I don't want him. The Mets lineup will be fine. Any deals we make should be for relatively young, talented starting pitching. For instance, a deal for Zambrano would be far more beneficial to the Mets than a deal for Griffey. It would be VERY interesting if Seattle stays in it and attempts to bring back Griffey. -X-
That's a no brainer, but the price for Zambrano will be much higher because he's got top stuff. Grif would be a rent-a-player type that wouldn't cost us nearly as much and if he walked at the end of his contract, no big deal. He may not love NY but at this point in his career his desire to play in the playoffs again might trump that. He wouldn't have to carry the team here and run through walls, just play solid defense and hit the ball.
Correction, Griffey has always hated the Yankees. And that's solely because he feels his father was crapped on by George Steinbrenner. Not that I'm trying to argue that the Mets should grab him. They have enough youth in the outfield that adding another vet to the lineup doesn't make a lot of sense. But the Mets could definitely be an option for him.
