This AM Stink said the best overall pickup in the off season was Thomas Jones IHHO. The other person gave Jones #4 & gave the Pats #1 with Thomas

Did they mention that we need a guard to open some holes for him or was that missed in their observation? Did they mention our Qb has to complete a few passes down field to open up some lanes for him to run too? Did they mention we need a Dt to stuff the run or Jones will not be on the field because opposing teams will run the ball up the gut on us and kill the clock?

It is hard to argue any different. We had a huge hole at RB and filled that hole with a CMart clone. I personally think the addition of AD to NEs D will make more of an individual impact but there is no question bringing in Jones was a great move..

No the question was in THHO what were the 5 best moves of the off season. We did not have Barnes who should be our Neal to assist TJ this year.

The Jones acquisition was a great Heist but without noticeable improvements along the OL, this move would be for naught.

One more year together, D'Brick getting bigger and Clement continuing his late season surge into this upcoming season will hopefully bode well for the OL.

As long as the left side remains Brick, Kendall and Mangold, there will be plenty of holes for him.

i doubt it being that brick and kendall are probably the worst run blockers on our team.

The glass is always half full when it comes to my beloved Jets. But sometimes I have to call em like I see em. Thomas Jones was a great pickup if everything else works out. The Jones trade was one of the best heist's the team has ever pulled off in my opinion but all the other pieces have to fall into place for it to work and I don't have faith in a few of the big pieces on offense and the D-line.
WIth the Pats getting stronger, The Bills surge the second half last year, Trent Green to the Phins and us having a real schedule (On Paper) I am quite concerned with our team. I will not even mention the other teams we have to beat in the Afc. Im my opinion we are still in the process of rebuilding and last year the stars aligned perfectly for us to get to the playoffs. I think this year we take a huge step backwards. At the end of the day I don't think Jones or Pennington will be there when we are ready to win it all. I see people here complaining about us getting no respect from the analyst for the upcoming year but the rest of the world does not see our team with rose colored Jet Green glasses. I hope that I am wrong but I don't think so.

The Jets ran up the middle or over one of the guards 63% of the time last year. Not too many plays were designed to go outside. I wonder why that is; were they not comfortable with the outside blocking, was speed to the hole a problem, lead blocker? I don't know. But with Baker and Clement on the right side, along with a quick RB and a good lead blocker I would like to see more plays banged out to the right side. We were actually ranked 3rd in the league running over RT last year, albeit in a limited number of tries. I think we need to exploit some more outside runs. I thought Washington's quickness would have given us that ability, peculiar why it didn't happen....

Hell I'm an optimist and even I see the problems on our Oline. We have an aging guard not known for his road grading ability and a LT that can't keep the weight on. How in the world does that indicate to anyone that we can push back the opposing defense? I was actually hoping Kendall didn't come back, we needed to get someone in there with some power to help Mangold get it done in the middle.

That being said I expect a small step backward....not a huge one.

A healthy off-season for Chad P, bringing in TJ, a year of playing for our young guys on the oline, most of our starters returning...these things will help us offset our schedule...to an extent.

When I look at our recieving corps, our RBs and Chad being healthier than he has been in years I feel good about our offense. I love Mangold at center and Brick should have a better year this year. Clement started to come around last year too. Of course there is room for improvement along the right side of the line. We all know that. With any luck and some good coaching the Oline will be MUCH better this year than last.

Defensively I think we will just have to wait and see. I like the Harris pickup, and with Vilma bulking up a bit and getting used to the 3-4 stopping the run should be a bit easier this year. Also, with Revis and Dyson at the corners we should be able to rattle a few cages of opposing ball slingers.

We have some question marks regarding the rushing attack. I am not going to make any judgments about that area just yet. Between Bowens, Thomas, Coleman, and Rhodes I am hoping our pass rush begins to take shape sometime in the beginning of the upcoming season. But who knows? I can't get a read on it just yet. Hopefully a strong pass rush will take form from all the pickups at DL we got this off season.

I know our schedule looks a lot tougher than last years on paper. But you can never tell how thats going to play out. Some talking heads had Arizona going the SB last year.

You are wrong. This team is much better than last years team and it will show with 12 or 13 wins.

    Go Jets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

anyways i see the jets as a team that hung with indy down to the wire WITHOUT a feature running back we now have. and they won it all last year, i dont see a team in the nfl we cant play with and beat.

Thomas Jones was a very smart move for the Jets to make. He can be the starter and Leon Washington who impressed last season can come in and be the change of pace back.

The Jets running game improved significantly down the stretch last year, and unless something significant happens with Kendall, it's going to be the same OLine this year, and if anything it is going to be better. The real problem with our O-Line is the lack of depth... one injury is all we need to be proverbially screwed. However, don't lose perspective on the fact that this year D'brick and Mangold will both have a year under their belt, as well as an intact line that has had a year to gel. Not to mention that we're starting the year with T. Jones and L. Washington w/ Barnes as our starting backfield rather than D. Blaylock w/ BJ Askew.

Our oline does need upgrades desperately, but short term we should be fine.

Wow, did we just come off 10-6 and the playoffs, or am I missing something? Point well taken, everyone knows our issues, but you have to admit, the Jones pickup helps us. If we paid someone else his $$, and espn called that a good move, I'm sure you would be saying "yeah, but who's gonna run the ball?"
