It's not as hard to always have your head in the game when you play once a week. That's why guys like Cairo and Alex Cora and Doug Mirabelli are great off the bench or filling in once in a while, but fail as starters.
I bet Joe will pull the "The kid pitched a good game, I wanted him to leave on a good note..." You're the man T-Clip. Canue is heating up fast.
I agree with your once a week point. On the other hand it depends what you mean by failure. If anyone expect Cairo to hit .290 and drive in 50 runs, they're setting themselves up for disappointment. With Cairo, you're getting a solid defensive player, at any infield position, and a guy who can get a sacrifice when called upon. I'll take that over what Phelps offers.
Seeing that replay of Proctor's pitch to Youk, it looked like maybe he was telling the truth that he wasn't trying to throw at his head. It looked like he lost the ball.
After Cano getting hit that inning...I see it as Proctor wanted to throw at Youkilis, fine...But didn't want to aim for his head... In the end...Message sent.
Clippard has to be the player of the game tonight. Regardless of the offensive performance, he pitched himself out of trouble a few times. He's got quite a bit of composure for such a young kid.
I would like to see his control a little better, but it beats DeSalvo... I like T-Clip, and would like him as the 5th starter this season unless Igawa can get shit worked out...
I can't judge. Seeing the replay, it looked like he honestly lost control of the ball. He released it way too soon. I can see believing otherwise, just due to the timing, but it looked like he just lost his grip on the ball. (He even hung his head as soon as the ball left his hand. You don't do that when you mean to throw at someone.)
Eh, I don't know if his control is ever going to get "better." The nature of his motion, plus the sheer number of off-speed pitches he throws, is going to lead to a lot of pitches barely painting corners. That's a good thing, since if he hangs those pitches over the middle, they're getting crushed.
Cano has had 2 hits Friday-Sat-Sun-Mon-and tonight right? Raises the average to .276, nice. The Melk Man gets another hit.
Cano is definitely coming around with the bat. Defensively, he still has some games where he makes me a little nervous, but overall, his play is much improved since the Mets series.
He sucks bro! You can't trust him in a big spot, when that time comes... Give me Bruney over this worthless piece of crap anytime in a big situation. Farnsworthless came in at the right time, a 6-1 game. $7 million a year for mop-up duty...Thanks Brian.
