Maybe they can make a push too and if they had been to 12 straight postseasons I'd have a little more confidence they'd make a run. I don't know if we'll mak a run but it's too early to give up.
Big Rog is going to help us get there, it's hard to rely on Desalvo and Clippard but once Roger gets here we have 4 pretty reliable pitchers which will help alot.
He hasn't and Desalvo has pitched well at times for us but it's too early to have real confidence in him. He ,might ptich well the rest of the season and beyond but as of now I think that's alot to ask. Tonight is a big game and relying on an unproven rookie is not the best way to win those types of games.
Ahh, gotcha. I have a lot more confidence in him than you do. Actually, I think I have a lot more confidence in him than most people do. Between his composure so far, and that sick breaking stuff he throws, I believe he's a keeper for a long time. I've always said that I would rather have a guy who threw nasty off speed stuff, than a guy who throws 95 all the time.

Yeah, we're still in it, but if we lose too many more games like last night, we may as well pack it in. We have to win series against the potential wild card teams, and we have to pull off sweeps against the also-rans. If not, this race is done.

Um, that never happened. Mientkiewicz hit .306 in 2001, then .300 in 2003. Other than that he's hit .229, .261, .238, .240, .283, and is at .226 this year. Add that he's not a power hitter, and that's awful. He can NOT hit.
Hmm, you're right. Interesting. I swear I had that information previously. Ah well, so I'm wrong again. I didn't say he was a power hitter. A guy at the bottom of the lineup doesn't need to be. He could have hit .270-.280 in the Yankees lineup. If you add in his glove, he's worth it to me. (And FAR better than Phelps.) But like I said, if I can get Teixeira cheaply enough, I'd take him in a heartbeat.

He was batting .403 as of May 22, 2001. He then went on a major skid and saw his average fall to .309 on June 13. It rose back up and I suppose he was in the mix for the batting crown for at least one more month. He sucked in September.
Hey, my knowledge was partially right, but overall wrong. No biggie, I accepted being shown wrong. Doesn't change the fact that I'd still much prefer having Dougie as our first baseman over Josh Phelps.
Sure he has a glove but I don't buy the bat, he sucked for the Mets and he is batting below .230 for you guys, to me that sucks
I can't really decide who I prefer. Phelps can't field and is a solid hitter. Mientkiewicz is a bad hitter, but an amazing fielder. If Phelps were a great hitter, it would be a no brainer, but since he isn't, we have this crappy twosome.
