http://www.recordpub.com/news/article/2064142 ok this rapist only got 5 years... so u want vick to get double the sentence for dog fighting. i just dont think dog fighting is worse then rape, i agree its a horrible thing to do or be involved in, but IMO there are worse crimes out there to throw the book at. the prison systems are over crowded as it is and u wanna throw in people involved with dog fighting in there for ten years. just seams excessive for dog fighting to me.
If the league is interested in making money and presumably the players since they negiotated a % of the revenue, the players image is extremely important to the revenue that both the owners and the players share. While being in a motorcyle accident sucks for that player and team, it doesn't tarnish the image of the player or the team and it doesn't put advertising revenue at risk. Dog fighting does because millions of Americans that watch football and drink Coors and take Viagra and brush their teeth with Crest and drive Ford Trucks have dogs that they consider to be a part of their families. Michael Vick is being paid millions not because he is a superior talent, but because the NFL over it's history has become a dominating marketing tool for companies like Coke, Coors, Phizer, P & G and a place where the networks can also promote their own programing. Unfortunately football is no longer a sport for the dumb, cruel, drug takeing, partying and personally undisiplined person who can skate by on talent while making 20 to 50,000 dollars a year for 3 or 4 years and than go to work as a welder for 5 years before going on disability. The hypocrisy is the players want to be plaha's but they don't want the responsability and stress that being a plaha really intails.
You're exactly right. But when big ben pulls a dumbass move like crashing his motorcycle with no helmet, I think it does tarnish his image a little (at least from a decision-making standpoint), and hurts his and the steelers season in the process. And you know that most, if not all owners in the league would rather have their players fighting dogs, than injuring themselves on their personal time. It's the getting caught doing it that makes this worse for all parties involved. And isn't it playa or am I just not that cool?
Oh, really? What did you take a poll or something? You just assumed that people are going to agree with you that dog fighting is a meaningless event and doesn't hurt anyone? They will especially care when their star players end up behind bars doing time. Anyone that gets convicted is going to see his career go buh-bye. Maybe some of the owners will side with you and not care, but they will care that their players are felonious law-breaking dirtbags. Because that is going to hurt their wallet more than a temporary injury.
Not that I’ll ever defend suck ass Vick for anything – but I think it’s important to note that these are Pit Bulls not dogs. I would use a pit bull for traction to get my car un-stuck. C’mon all you it’s not the dog it’s the owner tools…
So his image is tarnished based on his decision making, we are making progress now let's say his decision making process wasn't very good and he was a psychotic abuser of animals and a potential felon.
OK , back in the room again. What bothers me about certain posters here is that some here think that there is a league table of 'worst crimes'. Crime is crime whatever , ask the victim for whichever crime is perpetrated against them and they will tell you that theirs' is the worst. I think its fair to say that Vick appears to be a grade A asshole with no morals at all. How long before there is another thread on yet another misdemeanour from him? lastly , dog fighting or any other form of animal fighting for human enjoyment is wrong , no matter which culture you're from. The fact that someone with so much money is bored enough to want to surround himself with some of the earths best scum beggers belief. What goes around comes around Vick , Mexico or whatever it calls itself.
Wow dude...maybe you should read it again and actually try to figure out what i'm saying. Did you see the part where i said its the getting caught that the owners don't like? And when did I say dog fighting is a meaningless event that doesn't hurt anyone? Man- you obviously don't have any clue how to objectively read post. Half of your reply is based on your pre-conceived notions of what my post is saying rather than actually addressing what I am saying. I don't even want to wast time debating with you because now you're just putting words in my mouth. Peace out.
Then the owners don't stand by him like they would for a super-bowl winning QB that was just being immature.
You can't waste your time debating because your logic has half-cocked and flawed. That isn't my problem - it's yours. My reply was toward your illusion that you think you know exactly what most, if not all, owners think about dog fighting. The truth is you have absolutely no idea. So now it is all about "getting caught", eh? According to your warped sense of right and wrong rape, murder, and <fill in other atrocious crime> is perfectly fine - so long as you don't get caught. That is pretty fucked up "thinking" in my book.
First of all, I don't want Vick to get shit if not convicted. That's not how this country works. If you'd like to lead this argument this way, be my guest. If convicted, a jury of his peers will decide what they feel is right. I simply responded to your question. You may not feel breeding a animals to attack is a bad crime, but I do. We'll just agree to disagree on this subject. As does 48 state governments agree with me. If you don't feel this is such a bad crime, why not raise your own fighting dogs? Are you just a wuss?
Bizarre world..... Bored and watching Nigel Benn kick ass on youtube (err except when Michael Watson and Chris Eubank kicked his) and watching a rerun of this brutal fight Benn had in 1995 with a boxer called Gerald McClellan which was hardcore throughtout until Benn TKO'd him in the 10th. Remember watching that on ITV and seeing this poor guy getting carried out of the ring with an oxygen mask on a stretcher. You know the story, ended up blind and 80% deaf and can just about barely walk 12 years after the event with the use of a walking stick. Anyhow reading up on him, seems he was a big fan of dog fighting himself. Had a tatoo of his favourite american pit ball done after the dog was killed in a fight and he used to go to pet stores and take home different breeds of dog. He would tape up their mouths and paws and let loose his pit balls on them and time them to see how long his pitbull would take to kill. He explained that he didnt want the poor dogs to hurt his beloved pitbulls and explained it was just like a boxer sparring before a fight. His dogs needed to taste blood everyday. Nice guy. Seems that they held a fundraiser in London in February for this guy and the animal rights groups were shall we say a little upset. Strange world, i sincerely hope this guy hasn't got a guide dog as i'm pretty sure american pitbulls are kind of lousy at that. http://www.fightgame.com/general-boxing/317-gerald-mcclellan.html http://www.k9magazine.com/blog/crippled-boxer-should-not-receive-benefit-bash/
Gerald McClellan or Benn was the dog owner , (sorry confused). Either way what an asshole. I just hope that karma really does work.
once again you fail to understand that i'm not condoning dog fighting or breeding dogs to be fighters and i'm glad it's illegal. i'm only saying that are prison systems are at capacity, and you gotta be real and not say we should just hang every criminal. and i just think jail time for 10 years (which is what you think Vick should get if convicted) is a little excessive for dog fighting.
I hope this dude gets longer than Paris Hiltons pathetic stretch in the big house...hes going down. Sheriff: People say Vick part of dogfighting NFL.com wire reports http://www.nfl.com/teams/story/ATL/10215978
After watching that "Dealing Dogs" documentary on HBO, putting the dogs down is an awful fact. Karma baby.
