Someone at a Red Sox board I go to posted this.

I suppose that could happen, but it does seem unlikely.

Article from today's NY Post, Orlando Cabrera says Yankee fans are bad losers.

I would say that most Yankee fans under 25 tend to be warped. Their idea of a good game is Yankees 14, Devil Rays 3, so Orlando Cabrera isn't totally wrong here.

    Your thoughts?

    Who is "their idea?"

    What's the difference from 14-3 and 2-1? It's a win.

I laugh at the "warped" comment...

This quote struck a chord with me:

"They don't appreciate good baseball: They just appreciate the Yankees beating up on everybody."

That does represent a lot of Yankee fans I've encountered in the past few years. I'm not putting down the diehards or trying to kick you guys when you're down, but some of the bandwagon fans are now getting their comeuppence. What comes around goes around. In terms of fans, this year may separate the men from the boys.

And those bandwagoners will fall over to the Mets, it's that simple, and it's stupid. But you and I know it's going to happen. The bandwagoners can't handle losing, and when they see the Mets winning, they'll simply put their Mets hat on...They're pathetic.

Yup. I'm still wondering what happened to all those Laker fans from a few years back. They've gone AWOL.

If you are not passionate about whatever team you root for, why even bother.

Yeah, its unlikely, but it has happened before. All it takes is the Yanks starting to hit like they're supposed to and someone vital like Varitek getting hurt like last year and things could change fast.

After this road trip the NYY schedule lets up a bit and stays pretty light untill the start of July. We should know if they have any chance by then.

yeah, but what would be the point as they would have to face the tough teams in the playoffs anyway.

I'm talking about whether or not they can even compete for a spot in the playoffs.

Gold.... and in mnay cases 100% accurate. Not in most of the guys that post here but the arrogance of most Yankee fans that they will just be handed a spot in the postseason because they are the Yankees sickens me. Good for Cabrera to take shots at the leigons of 96ers that exist, the many who can't name one Yankee 3rd baseman from the 80's or the pitcher that tossed a no hitter vs the White Sox and lost. I feel bad for the guys that post in many Yankee threads but this is directed at guys like JK Grandchamp and Rogerblaze who spout nonsense when the team is good but disapear when the team sucks. And as a Met fan I'd be embarresed if those guys were fans of my team because they're not fans. They are 96ers true and true and they prove it with their silence.

So because we have high expectations that makes us bad fans?

Only Yankee fans boo when things are bad? RedSox, Mets, Phillies fans don't boo? Yankees fans are the only bad losers? Who ISN'T a bad loser when their team underachieves and plays like shit?

I think you're missing the point. I think his point is that many Yankee fans are not baseball fans they're just Yankee fans. Which is to say they'd rather watch the NYY win 13-2 then a real good game of baseball. These are not exactly my points just the way I'm interpreting his comments and I have to say I think there?s something to what he?s saying. It?s not Yankee specific, there are fans all over MLB like this? but they are not fans of the game as much as they are fans of their team. In fact I think the quote at the end is a pretty telling

?Jen Prisco of Orange, Conn., said: "He's not a Yankee, so I don't care what he thinks."

That's not what he is saying, and there is a difference between expectations and arrogance. Many of the Yankee fans I know away from the board have an arrogance that they "deserve" certain things because they are the Yankees. They deserve to have te best team, or the highest payroll or the best players because they are the Yankees.

Maybe the question about the Yankees is are they really underachieving or are they just this bad? They've gotten very old very quick and maybe you guys just have unrealistic expectaions for a bad team.
