Clemens had some seriously crappy seasons in Boston. Really bad. Great pitchers don't suck for a few years in the middle of their career. Funny he found something to "fix" his problem. Something I like to call "stuff"

He hasnt been charged with anything or tested positive for anything. I was only 6 during he supposedly crappy years which I guess you are referring to 93-96. His era's over those 4 years were 4.46, 2.85. 4.13, and 3.63. He also missed some time to injury it seems. He seemed to have 2 bad years and his last year in boston his era was not reflected in his record. Perhaps someone would like to tell me something the stats are not.
That short porch in right field would be perfect for Helton. Helton is just as good with the glove as eye chart is and is a much better hitter. It would be a huge upgrade to get him. The question is who would the Yankees have to give up. First thing is you have to forget about Abreu. Rockies would be looking at young, cheap talent. Cano might be a possibility but I'm sure that the Yankees young pitchers are the names that would come up. As soon as Hughes name comes up, talks should stop and probably Clippard as well but any other of them will have to be included.
Are you out of your mind? You don't OBP .432 for a career (with 901 BB to 700 K) because a ballpark. Yeah, his power has been down the last 3 seasons, part of that being advanced age and part being the humidor. (Coors' park factor has dramatically dropped toward normal levels). He's not meant to be utilized like a one-dimensional power hitter. Think more of a "Super John Olerud". Imagine that lineup, especially if Abreu returns to normal. Absolute on-base machine. All that being said, no way this deal goes down. Contract is too much, Yankees won't part with the pitchers.
clemens is the greatest right handed pitcher of all time and top 3 overall and that is a fact. and i am a yankees fan and STRONGLY don't like clemens...
The best pitcher of all time arguement begins and ends with Koufax. And depending on who is given up I'd be in favor of getting Helton and Fuentes.
I'm not sure he was even the best pitcher on his team. I think Drysdale was. Which is not to say he wasn't great, he was. Maybe if he had stayed around 5 more years but to call somebody with only 165 career wins the greatest of all time is more then just a stretch.
This trade would be highly unnessesary. We don't need more bats, just the ones we have to be consistent. The only move i see nessesary for this team is to get rid of Abreu as fast as possible, and just go with Melky in right. If we were to trade for anything,it should be bullpen help only.
Who would the Yankees give up? Clippard, Cabrera, and Sanchez for Helton and Fuentes? That seems fair.
But not a superstar. Short porch in Yankee stadium would probably let his power numbers stay as they were in Colorado but he's going to be a .280 hitter in New York. Not sure that's a big improvement.
I still don't understand what is the problem with Doug Myxlplyx. In all of the years he's had at least 300 ABs, he's performed well. 2001 (Twins): 543 AB, .306 AVG, 15 HR, 39 2B 2002 (Twins): 467 AB, .261 AVG, 10 HR, 29 2B 2003 (Twins): 487 AB, .300 AVG, 11 HR, 38 2B 2006 (Royals): 314 AB, .283 AVG, 4 HR, 24 2B Guys like Doug are what the Yankees need MORE of, not less. Today's major league pitchers don't get unnerved by home runs. They get shook by multi hit innings, especially extra base hits. Starting pitchers also don't like to have to change their rhythm with base runners on by entering the stretch. That's why the majority of relievers just pitch from the stretch all the time these days. If the Yankees continue to ignore the #1 problem that is fixable via trade, they have no shot in the postseason, if they get there at all. That problem is the bullpen.
