http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/b...05/22/2007-05-22_giambi_fails_speed_test.html Can we ship Giambi and Abreu out the bronx any faster?
What an ass. This is getting truly tiring now. EIGHTY guys have tested positive for amphetamines?! Come on baseball, this is sickening. All cheaters should be BANNED FOR LIFE.
Selig is climbing the list of worst commish as we speak. Every player gets a free fail that no one even knows about? Come on.
I think its deeper than that...i'm almost sure owners know what these players do.....its just to much money involved so they turn a blind eye
I'd take out a loan to bet on it. Like I've said before. Test EVERYONE, and do it once every two weeks. Anyone that fails, GOODBYE. But baseball will never do that, since as rillo points out, the owners don't care. It's about the bottom line. And steroids make home run hitters. And home run hitters make full stadiums. That's all that matters. And I hate it.
Selig still has a long way to go to catch Gary Bettman. Anyone watch the Ducks win the Western Conf. last night??? Me neither....
Why? These guys are baseball players. This is not a life or death issue, this is sports. People don't get a chance to make a mistake in your world? People need to have drug tests every two weeks? Why? So we can perserve the sanctity of this pure sport? LOL! I'd rather they spent that money educating the players and children about the dangers and offering rehabilitation to drug addicts like Giambi.
Giambi is payng the price to opening his mouth a few weeks ago ,and ripping the MLB for "looking the other way" re steriods......no coincidence "sources" told the Daily news this info all of the sudden
Good point on spending money on rehabbing them, but it doesn't work. Those of us who were old enough in the 80s remember guys like Strawberry, and Steve Howe, who no matter the number of chances, could never stay clean. This is not about making a mistake. This is about blatanly cheating, getting caught, getting another chance, and doing it again. Yes, it's a game. And cheating is the worst thing you can do in a game, is it not? Let's say you're in college, and you're assigned a paper. Let's further say you go online and find a paper written by a doctorate about the same subject. You decide to copy it and submit it. Is it not plagiarism? Did you not cheat? Is it life or death? Would you deserve a second chance if/when the truth came out? Cheating is cheating is cheating. It ALWAYS matters.
First of all I was old enough to remember the 80's so I clearly remember that Strawberry and Howe were using cocaine... not juice or amphetamines. More to that point Strawberry is living clean now (like thousands and thousands of other recovering addicts) and it is because of rehabilitation programs such as the one I'm suggesting. Secondly cheating is not a crime, it's the drug use that is the real crime. The testing/punishment system you are suggesting is more stringent then the programs most criminally convicted drug offenders are put through. What's your objective in having such a harsh system? Who (or what) is it protecting? I say let the courts deal with these drug addicts (like Giambi) in regards to strict punishment and let MLB's focus be on prevention and rehabilitation.
Well I disagree. These guys play a freaking game for a living. Go into work tomorrow on speed. Then do it again the next day. And the next. Do it till you get caught. Then see whether your job sends you to rehab to help you out. Come on. These guys are pampered prima donnas who are getting away with 1) using illegal substances, and 2) cheating. I wasn't trying to imply you didn't know who Strawberry or Howe were. But regardless of the fact that they both used coke, doesn't make it much different than amphetamines in anything but name. And Strawberry still wasn't clean just a couple years ago. So I don't really want to hear any defense for him. It took him MANY second chances. "Normal" people don't even get one. Why, even if they were inclined to, should baseball be responsible for the prevention of drug use among its players. Does your workplace have an active drug prevention program in place? Come on, that's ridiculous, and it shifts the responsibility for the blame away from the guilty parties. Explain to me why it would be justified for baseball to do anything but ban these cheaters. I'm willing to listen, but it has to be a damn good argument to convince me. Saying that they should be coddled and treated for a condition they brought upon themselves is not going to work. Plus, as a I brought up, part of the issue, and the one that MLB has a responsibility to address is the fact that these guys cheated. As I pointed out, you don't get second chances in the "real world." You cheat and get caught, you're toast. Why are these guys subject to a different set of rules than the rest of modern society?
I think Yankees fans, Red Sox fans, and Mets fans can even agree on this. I cant wait for the day Giambi is off the Yankees. He's a nice guy but he's a cheater and a liar.
