BY JAMES GORDON MEEK in Washington and ALISON GENDAR in New York DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITERS Tuesday, May 22nd 2007, 9:48 AM Jets star Justin Miller messed with the wrong girl. The woman Miller allegedly popped in the face outside a trendy Manhattan nightspot is a well-connected aide to powerful Sen. Barack Obama, the Daily News has learned. Kristen Jarvis, the 26-year-old assistant to Obama's chief of staff, was walking with a *painful limp?*yesterday - and a friend blamed a drunk and violent Miller. "Kristen has a dent on her chin. *She can't walk?*. It took 15 minutes to get her into her house ... because of pain," witness Lauren Turner told The News. she can't walk because of a blow to tha grill?.... are you serious? ... "please".
Fuckin broads need to keep their asses out of the way, or shut the hell up if they get involved and don't like what happens....if you want equal rights, either be ready to accept the consequences of your actions or stop taking advantage of the double standard.
Last time I checked, Miller "allegedly" assaulted Ms. Jarvis...big difference there Winston. You keep banging the drum to punish Miller as guilty without full possesion of the facts. The bottom line is that neither you nor anyone else knows what happen, so why the rush to judgement? Perhaps it will come out that Ms. Jarvis and friends started this altercation??? Perhaps it will come out that Ms. Jarvis...who by her friend's own admission was talking smack...was a major instigator in this incident??? Perhaps one of Ms. Jarvis' friends threw a punch first at Miller??? What then??? What about your quick rush to justice on Miller??? And please don't anyone construe this as me defending Miller. IF and WHEN all the facts out there will be plenty of time to assess blame and guilt. And it will make very little difference to me whether he is innocent or guilty, gets supsended or cut, so long as the guy gets a fair day in court. But until then this is all tiresome and idle speculation. Funny, very similar situation happened to Bryan Thomas a few years ago when he was accused by his ex-girlfriend of assault. Turns out she made it up.
None of us know the facts, but the idea that women shouldn't be on the street, shouldn't confront a drunk abusive guy, I find absurd. The fact that Miller already had a very similar incident in the parking lot right before the draft shows a potential pattern. There is no excuse for a pro athlete punching some one in the face, none. Part of being in the public eye is knowing how to walk away. Personally I think other than the legal ramifications the team and league should do nothing. The fact that the Jets gave up picks to draft Miller's replacement tells me the team doesn't think that much of Miller before the incident.
You can't say in one breadth that "none of us know the facts" and than in another ASSUME that she is the victim. Neither you nor I have any idea of her or her friends condition that night. They were all out a bar, so it is very real possibility that they had a few drinks themselves. We also have no idea what she or anyone in her group may have said or done to Miller & company. There is no excuse for him to defend himself, if the facts end up supporting that? Very poor argument indeed. He or anyone else should let them selves get jumped without even attempting to fight back?? Perhaps he did defend himself initially and than ran away from the situation...now that has become portrayed by the press that "Miller sucker punched a girl and ran from the cops." You have NO IDEA what happened and can't have it both ways by saying on one hand she is innocent and Miller is guilty.
This is almost laughable, the guy is a NFL cornerback, he may be the fastest man in the league, defend himself by either punching a women in the face intentionally or throwing a wild punch at a guy and hitting the girl in the face. How about do what he is trained to do, back peddle?
I am sure alchohol had no affect on the actions or judgement of any of parties involved. And if Miller was as "tanked" as you and others seem to think he was, it isn't laughable, but entirely probable. You bash the guy for not being able to back peddle sober, but he should be able to do it all liquored up at 4:30am in the morning? Seriously, get real Winston. With all you chuckleheads around here, I almost hope one of those clubs have surveillance video showing Miller & Company getting jumped by Jarvis & friends. I would love to see Ms. "I am so smart I work for a Presidential Candidate and lie about assaults when I get drunk with friends and hang out until 4:30am in the morning" Jarvis talk her way out of this one. Unlikely? Probably. But at least I will give Miller a fair day in court to plead his case.
I don't see any harm in rushing to judgement... It is entirely possible that he may have been quite innocent and defending himself. But given both his past and that of a lot of thuggish athletes I would wager that he's more guilty than innocent. Innocent until proven guilty - absolutely. But that doesn't stop me from guessing.
The notion of "innocent until proven guilty" will of course be the driving factor in the criminal charges against him, as they should be. It has absolutely nothing to do with anything else, however - not civil penalties (i.e., a lawsuit), and not whether the NFL or the team suspends him or not. Those sorts of situations have a far lower bar that needs to be crossed, and are governed by things like "preponderance of the evidence" and what the contract says. In other words, if Goodell doesn't like what Miller has to say, he can suspend him even if criminal charges are completely dropped, if the contract says he can. I said back at the beginning of the thread that IMO if he can't explain well why the police didn't find him at the scene of the incident he'll get a game or two from the NFL. I still think that that is the case.
Have you noticed the timing of all of these mass NFL arrests kind of coincide with Tagliabue stepping down and Goodell taking over? I'm beginning to wonder if this was happening all along and Tags was helping to protect the image of the NFL by curbing a lot of the bad press... whereas Goodell is trying to actually DO SOMETHING about it. Of course no cover-up in the past will ever see the light of day, but I can't help but see how things between authorities and NFL players has escalated exponentially in the past year or so. And I'm not naive enough to believe it's a simple coincidence of chance.
I was bludgeoned and interrogated by an elite squad of Rhesus monkeys intent on sabotaging my efforts in the TT Forum.
This will only make it to trial if the girl is telling the truth. There's no way that a presidential candidate will let his name be associated with something like this in the press unless it's non-negative press. Especially a media-savvy Democrat. If you think otherwise, then I think you're naive. Otherwise, Miller would just pay her off and go on being the unabashed punk bitch that he's been for his 2 seasons as a Jet. And probably end up pushing or punching a third woman.
The only facts at the moment was the out of all these people, Justin Miller was the only person who was arrested and charged for assualt. NYC Cops don't go out of their way to arrest football players in Manhattan. They are not like the LA Cops who go out of their way to frame star football players.
Ah, I miss my old stomping grounds. Shady crap always used to go down in that area. Horniest dudes on the planet would be just getting out of the lounges and clubs out there. Something just happened to the nature of the bars/clubs as you move west . It was hilarious seeing guys hit on random chicks on the street... I just didn't think one of those guys would be a Jet. Oh yeah, hiding in one of those parking garages is classic.
......and then get away with murder , literally. I'm still out on Miller and will wait for the hearing before lining him up for the firing squad. Although it says here that a player can be realeased if he has no talent (????) good thing for Miller that its doesn't say for being dumb. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/f...5-22_jets_miller_must_wait_on_punishment.html
Wait, what NFL rule states that a team can't release a player for something other than lack of skill? Is this for real or is it Cimini talking out of his ass again? Not that I want him released, but that sounds like a crock.
It's real. You can't release a person because he got arrested, just like you can't because of injury.
IMO, *this* is what it all comes down to. Regardless of who was actually at fault, the Barack spin machine is going to find a way to put this wholly on JM's shoulders. We're talking about the prospective leader of the free world here, so it goes way beyond just the NFL. I think Justin's about to get smacked up.
I see it just the other way, the campaign and Miller probably have the same goal, make it go away quitely.
Good point. That's probably the way things will play out. In any case, it really doesn't matter who did what, the end result will be the same. Odds are that we'll never really know what happened.
