I know he's about 100, but he played above expectations last year stuffing the run prior to getting hurt.. Can't have too much veteran depth..

There will be no retirement speech from Junior Seau this summer.

A source familiar with the situation said last night that the veteran linebacker will re-sign with the New England Patriots late next week, pending a physical exam.

Seau, 38, signed a one-year deal with the Patriots last year ? three days after announcing his retirement ? but was lost for the season after breaking his right forearm Nov. 26 against the Chicago Bears.

Despite missing the final five games, he ranked fifth on the team with 69 tackles. Seau played so well against the run that coach Bill Belichick personally phoned him this week to reiterate his interest in having Seau return.

Seau, an Oceanside native and former Chargers great, is entering his 18th NFL season.

Didn't he also get into a fist fight with his position coach in the parking lot last year?

Right. But not necessarily the Ozzie and Harriet brand of family.

I remember ole Pepper Johnson, nicely done. I really loathe Seau, such an arrogant prick.

You're so overly excited for a 38 year old linebacker?

Looks to me like he'll be Adalius Thomas times 10

I just heard about it. Nice! I got to say, he was the biggest surprise last season. I thought we wouldn't get much out of him, and before he broke his arm he really helped, especially with the run.

Though it's the NFL, and anything can happen, I am really looking forward to this season. It really could be a special season.

No, it's not like we're excited because he is dominant, but if you watched all the Pats games last season he was really surprisingly effective while on the field.

I'm definitely very happy about it as a Pats fan.

Eventually these old timers will become unproductive on the field. Try not to act surprised if it happens this year.

He was effective, and you seem RATIONAL about it.

This guy sounds as if it's Seau in his prime.

No doubt. But some athletes are still effective later in life, and generally it's guys like Seau who keep themselves in great shape. Hey, it's not like this guy is the key to the Pats. We made it close to the Super Bowl without him, it's just that he is playing a role now, and last season it was surprisingly effective.

Besides, all I read on other sites is how the Pats will backfire this season, so if we are good it's gravy. :)

Hey, if you can squeeze a little more juice out of the lemon then it is all good. :) He could bounce back, be healthy and contribute this year. But after all these years you also know the end is close at hand.
