I'm sure like mosty of you do, I bounce around an assortment of sports sites looking for rumors or rumblings or anything else I can feast my eyes on pertaining to the Jets. I read the Post. The News. I go through SI's Truth & Rumors. I read Foxsports' rumors. I check out Realgm. I do a quick search everyday to see what state the ship is in. Recently, this Andruzzi thing is the only thing that's created any blips since the draft. And the more I look everyday, and find nothing significant re: The Jets, the more comforting it is. No news, that is. I mean, looking through all these truth and rumors and rumblings, you could see so much talk and action about other teams right now today. But not the Jets. And it's Friday, and I'm comforted by the no news is good news policy. It means we're not a schizo team, still searching for answers or justification, or more seats to be filled. Obviously we all want to see the Jets make a big newsworthy splash when we log on and surf around. But that lack of action, should be coming as a relief. It means our FO and CS are on the right track, and I believe THEY BELIEVE we're on to something big this coming season. The next level. No news is good news. The teams with the most blips and blogs at this point still? Chaos. We should be lucky we're heading into the summer with a sound team. The more transactions that are stil ltaking place now are the result of desperation and panic. We're in good hands, evident by NOT appearing all over these internets.
interesting take, it'll make me feel better the next time i'm going mad looking for a snippit of news on the jets
I don't know, I haven't heard much regarding the Houston Texans, but I hardly doubt that means they are on the fast track to the Super Bowl.
That's a great point! "Makes a lot of sense to me".. I just feel like we never get our prop'z in the media/news/t.v. They only seem to pay us attention when were @ our low points. IMO.
I'm just so glad nobody is saying anything about the Jets right now. When the media is all over the Jets to win big they are usually gonna get blindsided by something and lose. When the media is down on the Jets, whoa surprise coming and they'll make the playoffs. With the media saying nothing at all I'm just gonna assume that 8-8 is where we'll land, which would be a fine second rebuilding season.
I'm sure news will pick up once teams start cutting players prior to June 1. The Jets will likely find some people that Tangini feels will make the team better and then go ahead and sign them, but that would hardly be a sign of panic/chaos, but rather a selective approach to filling our holes...
I really only see us picking up Andruzzi and/or some other OL depth. No NT or DE is going to become available that will make our front 3 look better than Ellis - Robertson - Coleman, and other than our OL I like our starters and depth at all other positions. My only concern is that if we release or trade guys such as Barton or McCareins, we would lose our depth at those positions. A rookie with 2nd and 3rd tier backups at ILB would concern me, and unless Brad Smith is ready for the #3 role and Dwight is on the team and healthy, our WR core would be thin. Barrett is expendable if injury concerns and cap hit are valid. I'd be OK going in with Dyson, Revis, Poteat, Miller, and Coleman.
i think all of that is superstition. i won't deny the correlation of media coverage and Jets failure in the past, but it's nothing more than coincidence. the media is glued to teams like the Pats every year and they're perennial contenders. as long as the Colts have Peyton Manning, they'll be favorites, and they won last year. a lot of analysts had the Bears coming out of the NFC last year (mostly by default) and they were SB runner-up. with the direction we're headed, i don't really care if we're getting media coverage. at this point, i trust Mangini and i think in a few years we'll be serious contenders, and not-so-serious contenders in the meantime. eventually, time will come when we garner a lot of hype and actually live up to it. cheers
DAMN somebody most be bored...lol No news is bad news right now because if they are happy with what we got right now then we are in trouble. I'm not saying we have a bad team but we are no where close to the Pats,Colts and Denver right now.
Outside of the AFC East, people just are not that aware of the Jets...on a national scene, they are not well known, exciting, or at all "sexy". There are generally only about 4 teams that get attention every year...this year it's the Pats, Indy, San Diego, and Chicago (after all, you need SOME NFC team to talk about, right?)
More than that, I would include Dallas on that list, even when they suck they get attention. Pittsburgh and Denver too with their history. And Green Bay always gets talked about because of Favre.
I think we need to get used the the current FO/CS because No News is going to be the norm until the team proves a track record of success under Mangini. Under Herm, players seemed free to give whatever interviews they wanted, however little non-NY reporters sought them out. Now the players and CS are under Media Lockdown, and until reporters see a burgeoning perennial postseason challenger in the Jets, they aren't going to go out of their way to write stories about them.
What I like about Mangini and Tannenbaum is their is no knee jerk reaction to anything. All decisions are based on need and value with the understanding no one guy is making a difference. In the league of copy cats these are the guys (Tangini) that teams will be copying from very soon. Young ,bright ,hungrey guys who have a good understanding of what it takes to be successful in the NFL.
