would u have rather had this day one?

I'm assuming Tanenbaum had Revis and Harris both above Spencer on his depth chart. So I would take the real draft over this. And there's still the possibility that Bender and the WR the Jets drafted (too lazy to look up) are better than Walker and Ramirez.

 

Spencer is a good pass rusher, but our run defense was one of our biggest weaknesses last year. He would not have helped as much as Harris on that front. McCaulley did not have a good senior year. Would much rather have Revis. Walker would have been a nice addition but it would have been a luxury at this point. We have too many holes, IMO, to take a luxury pick here. I'd rather have 2 great guys to fill 2 gaping holes. Ramirez would have been nice, but I don't think he really fits in with the make-up of our OLine. Most of our guys are smaller, finese guys. It would be nice to have a road-grader, but not at the expense of our line's chemistry.

All in all, I think both days would have been good, but I like the one where we fill 2 huge holes better.

Yes. I would have rather had that day 1 and I'm not all that fond of Walker and Ramirez. We could have had Ryan Kalil on the 59 and McCauley on the 63.

 

Id rather have our front office go with the players they had determined and scouted filled our needs rather than draft 4 players just because. I think it is better that our coaches were pro active than wait to see where what players fall.
I remember someone mentioned Ryan Kalil, isnt he a center? why would we need him? Does he play guard?

 

I agree but overall, I feel more comfortable with Revis, Harris, Bender and Stuckey than the players taken at the original Day 1 slots that the Jets had.

 

Mike Walker was chosen #79 so after that i wasnt really that mad that we traded that pick cause he is the only person i wanted in the third round.
But its obvious that we wanted quality over quantity that is why we trdaed them picks.

Kalil is a good sized center (6'3", 299lbs) who plays even stronger than his size would suggest. He'd have been an excellent left guard and great insurance for a Mangold injury.

 

this is slightly off topic...

i remember the 1st time i brought up James Jones, everyone wanted to talk about Mike Walker instead...when I did his interview, no one really cared..it doesnt bother me, but the point I make is this...does anyone realize that he got picked at #78, right before Walker, when we have people on this board who didnt even know who he was...just watch #83 from GB next year tear it up

 

Spencer would have been a nice pickup, but we definately needed CB help more than OLB.
McCaulley would be, if not a step down, no better then Miller.
Walker is OK, but I don't like drafting a #3 WR in round 2.
If Ramarez was as you describe him, he wouldn't have lasted past 89.

Bottom line is I would not have hated this draft, but we would have done nothing to replace Barrett or improve our run defense.

Keep in mind Dallas traded up to get Spencer and had we been in our original spot, the pick would have come down to Spencer and Olsen. Knowing this Dallas would have most likely traded up before our pick to get Spencer because he was clearly the player they wanted most.

 

That's a very interesting point, but honestly you can't do that with the draft. Just be happy that we took two very highly rated players that our staff clearly thought great things about.

If you go back every year in the draft and say you could've taken this player, and he would've filled this role you will go nuts.

 

Because Kalil would have been a great LG candidate. Excellent footwork, good size and still developing, came out of a pro style offense at USC and a VERY good program, and he'd have been great insurance in the center of the line against a Mangold injury.

It was a no-brainer to take him if he was there on the 59, which he was, unfortunately we were not.

I get the feeling that if the Jets stayed at 26, they'd have probably picked David Harris, so I'd say I'm happy with the way it went.
