As reported by rotoworld and yahoo sports... The Dolphins have reportedly inquired about Jets G Pete Kendall. The Jets are said to prefer trading Kendall outside the division. The staff in New York feels Kendall has been a locker room politician, and the 11-year veteran is apparently also in search of a new contract. May. 6 - 7:40 am et Source: Yahoo Sports
Wonder what they mean by "locker room politician"? Trouble maker behind the scenes maybe? I was wondering why they were shopping him, because I don't think we have anyone on the roster to fill in. *shrugs* That's why I'm not the coach.
i belive we need him, O-Line is our weakest unit and he?s the 3rd best player on that line, and i can?t think of anyone (on our team or FA or Trade) to replace him properly. i don?t really have a clue what his worth is, a 3rd round 4th rounder?
locker room politician may refer to the fact that he is the players union representitive and very active for players rights.... Id hate to see him go also, still a great value to the team.... guess they are COMMITTED to getting younger
Based on this thread- (oop's, can't post links, but it's the thread about why cut Kendall) I figured you guys had no use for him. Does he have anything left in the tank?
He sounds like the voice of reason. I would hate to see him go just yet. We just signed a Bender (sniggers) who plays LT , probably LG as well????
I'd hate to see us lose Kendall. He has the much needed experience to gel that line, and is one of our best run blockers. His contract is very reasonable too.
Didnt they have some problems with Kendell in Arizona? Didnt he go behind Denny Greens back and report him to the players union?
A couple of days old but I thought it would interest a few. It still don't really tell us much thou. Jet veterans on the brink BY RICH CIMINI DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/football/jets/2007/05/01/2007-05-01_jet_veterans_on_the_brink.html Tuesday, May 1st 2007, 4:00 AM The draft is history, but the Jets' work isn't done. Now comes the spring cleaning. Several high-salaried veterans could be released in the coming weeks, with wide receiver Justin McCareins, guard Pete Kendall, cornerback David Barrett and linebacker Eric Barton on the endangered list. The most surprising name is Kendall, who finished the season seemingly entrenched as the starting left guard. The Jets shopped him in trade talks during the draft, according to a source, and there's a chance he may not be back for a fourth season with the Jets. Both sides have been tight-lipped, creating an air of mystery. Kendall, 33, signed through 2009, is due to make $1.7 million this season - a bargain for the Jets. Maybe it's a money issue. The usually loquacious Kendall, reached yesterday, didn't want to address his situation. He wouldn't even discuss whether he's participating in the offseason program. (He has been a fairly regular participant, a source said.) "I'm aware of the reports," Kendall said, referring to the trade talk, "but I'm going to decline comment." The Jets don't have an obvious replacement, so they probably would have to work a trade (the 49ers' Justin Smiley reportedly is on the block) or go the free-agent route. Jeno James, who played for line coach Tony Wise in Miami, is unsigned. McCareins, who has a $2.9 million base salary this season, is a likely cap casualty. The Jets can designate him as a June 1 cut, which softens the immediate salary-cap hit, although there's a rule that allows them to make the move before June 1. They tried to trade him before the draft, but there wasn't much of a market because teams expect him to be released. The chances of Barrett ($3.6 million) and Barton ($3 million) surviving took a big hit over the weekend, when the Jets traded up to pick cornerback Darrelle Revis and linebacker David Harris in the first and second rounds, respectively. Both veterans could be asked to take significant pay cuts and/or be released. Barrett, who had surgery to repair a sports hernia, scored points with management last season by playing hurt. Maybe that will help his status. The biggest name of all - running back Curtis Martin - is expected to make an announcement on his future by June 1. From all indications, he will retire. NEW BLOOD: The Jets are expected to announce the signings of about 15 undrafted rookies. Among the most interesting names: Utah QB Brett Ratliff and Hawaii S Leonard Peters, a Troy Polamalu lookalike, at least from a hair standpoint. In college, he played with a large mane of curly hair flowing down his back.
The same rap as was put on Mawae...this is the one thing that I don't like about Mangini...it doesn't say much for his leadership qualities if he's got to trade away productive players because he can't control them. Toughen up.
It seems like a real bad idea to get rid of Kendell to me. How much depth do we really have on our o-line right now??
From a dolphin site: Dolphins call Jets about Kendall Sunday | May 06, 2007 Continuing their effors to upgrade the offensive line, the Dolphins have contacted the Jets regarding the availability of veteran guard Pete Kendall. Agent Neil Schwartz has been trying to re-negotiate Kendall's contract this offseason. Kendall has three years remaining on his current deal and is scheduled to earn $1.7 million in 2007. He is looking for a raise of approximately $1 million. Negotiations do not appear to be going well, as the Jets attempted to trade the Boston College graduate prior to last weekend's NFL Draft. Kendall was originally chosen by current Dolphins general manager Randy Mueller, then with Seattle, in the first round of the 1996 draft. A team captain in New York, Kendall has started a 156 of 157 career games for Seattle, Arizona and New York. At 6-5, 280 pounds, he is unusually light for the position. But the Dolphins are making a move towards smaller, more nible guards this offseason. They're also preaching versatility, requiring their lineman be able to play at least two positions. Though predominantly a left guard, Kendall has spent time at center during his 11-year career. While the Dolphins could potentially make an offer for Kendall, the asking price could prove prohibitive. Though it is not unheard of for division rivals to trade with one another, the going rate on such deals is typically higher than normal for that very reason.
What could we get for him? is ther any player on the Dolphins Roster, mangini could have in mind? i don?t think they would offer more than a 4th rounder in 2008.
id trade him for a 4th, only if the Jets have another viable option at LG, and that option better be a very good option
Depth at Guard maybe alittle better than we all think. -Wade Smith is a talented guy who was once a decent Lt prospect w/ the Dolphins. Now he ended up struggling at that spot, but you take his athleticism and size at LG and he maybe a great player. I know Wise was high on him, and he looked decent for the couple plays he came in, on relief. - Adrian Jones has ideal size and athletiism for the spot. Last year he replaced Kendall in the 2nd half of the Jets-Pats home game and he was very impressive. His youth and athleticism nex to Brick would be quite exciting. - Don't forget Bender. He'd be an upgrade in terms of size, youth and athleticism over Kendall.
