I dont disagree with anything you say above, but you dont pay a guy what Barton will make to be a backup. Not to mention that Barton is gonna wanna play full time because as he approaches the end of his contract he's going to want a shot at a decent third contract.

no doubt that hes (at the moment) making way more than a second stringer. i think ppl are getting a bit ahead of themselves with harris and his impact though. if they let barton go and harris doesnt pan out, we are gonna have major issues. if he does, then we have depth. hopefully barton will want to be here, and he will take a hit on his salary to do so. maybe they can rework his contract so he could potentially still make that money through incentives.

in the end, i want barton here...hopefully he will rework his deal.

To this team he's worth about 2 million, but I have a feeling another team values him higher than that...so he'll probably walk in year or less. Would be nice to have him around...he's a fiery dude and probably would make a good 5th man off the bench-critical to the Mangini 3-4...but we seem to be at a crossroads of need vs. value.

p.s. Order of effectiveness of "bubble guys"
    1. Barton- perfect 5th man in a 3-4 rotation, understands the D and can play outside and in.
    2. McCairens- can't believe i'm not putting him last, but as of right now, he's still the 3rd best WR on the team...his salary is not indicative of his value to the team...hence all the talk
    3. Barrett- considering necessity to the team, salary, ability and injury risk puts the predicted third best CB on the team in a position of odd man out. (this luxury is really available because Hank Poteat is the cheapest 3rd CB in the league...you're the weakest link...bye, bye

Barton may have been a (T)raider 1st. And almost cost us the Jet/Charger playoff game. Witch I've learned to forgive but not forget. But I do believe we could use his experiance out there on the field.

With Dyson being so injury prone, I can't see us cutting Barrett for another season or until Miller and Revis are ready to start.

    Players we better not cut
    Barton
    Kendall

    Players likely to be cut
    Barton
    Kendall
    McCareins
    Barrett

nothing to crazy. but if we cut barton or kendall this organization is stupid. for all we know harris might have trouble adjusting or get injured. not to mention id rathe rhave barton and harris in the middle and have thomas and vilma on the outside. with hobson being the official 12th player at D rotating wherever we need him.

and we have almost zero OL depth. cutting kendall would set us back and cost us a game or two.

if anyone gets cut its more than anything part of the mangini youth movement as we have some good cap space that weve yet to use. maybe these cuts this year will be to clear up future salary for a big splash after this coming season, who knows. but that would be my guess

like i said before, harris' play is far from a given. letting barton go could be a big mistake. (the SD game was a few years ago, and hes def a better player now then he was then....and it matters not that he was a raider before he came here).

DB really needs to take a pay cut...

WTF, he had one hurt year which enabled us to get him at steal prices the year before cornerback contracts became ridiculous...I'm really sick of people throwing around that phrase cause a guy's been hurt...it's freakin football people...John Abraham is injury prone...Andre Dyson is a player.

    The facts:
    2001 Tennessee Titans 14 58 54.0 4 0 3 36 12.0 36 0 14
    2002 Tennessee Titans 16 59 54.0 5 1 3 27 9.0 16 1 11
    2003 Tennessee Titans 16 65 54.0 11 0 4 62 15.5 51 2 10
    2004 Tennessee Titans 16 41 35.0 6 0 6 135 22.5 44 0 9
    2005 Seattle Seahawks 10 20 19.0 1 0 1 72 72.0 72 1 9
    2006 New York Jets 15 62 51.0 11 0 4 -3 -0.8 0 0 4

    See...one unlucky year

Remember we are under the Cap.

Unless we need to sign players that will make us over that cap. We have no need to cut anyone..

Why do we need to cut so and so?
and we dont need to rework any contracts.....(that is retarded we are under the cap) read the CBA before you speak. If you restructure you screw up future yrs,we are in the right position.

if we are going to rework a contract it will be Robertson(he is due 10 mil next yr in 08) or extend (someone) BUT I would give Hobson and Coleman and others a couple months.

Under the cap or not some of the guys listed in this thread will still have to be paid and 3 million for a back up is awfully expensive.

I wonder what the hell is keeping us from signing Keyshawn. I mean seriously, are we that stacked, Mangini? C'mon...

According to Adam Schein on yesterday's Jets Nation, there is a 0% chance the Jets will sign KJ. (i have no link, just saw it on the show).

I'm fine with that. I personally think KJ is a distraction. We could use a big body for the red zone and short passes over the middle. i'm just not sold on KJ being that answer.

why cut them if they fit in the cap. It doesnt cost more cap money to keep them. It will cost more in future yrs if we cut them.
I am sure Barrett will get cut or traded.
Barton might be asking for a trade but I would wait til training camp when teams are desperate
Mc Careins who wants him? mys well keep him til training camp when a team gets desperate. Hell as a #3 I will keep him for this year since he fits the cap as of now.
I dont understand the Kendall stuff.....(something is going on behind the scenes)
others I would wait til TC
Kimo could be another cut but I havent heard anything
    Dwight can be another

and the obvious Martin will be a June 1st retirement
there are others that can be cut but they save nothing and are truley backups(A jones, Pouhla, ect...)

Ok, how about this. There are only 53 roster spots. Now, do you cut the older expensive guy with whom you will shortlly be having to work out a new contract and who wasnt a player that you brought in or the younger, cheaper, more your style players that you did bring in.

Barrett needs to stay. We need veteran depth in the secondary w/ NE getting deeper at the WR position. Add in that many teams are using 4 and 5 WR sets and Barrett becomes even more valuable. On top of all that, he is a very SOLID CB.

I really don't understand all the Kendall rumors. The only reason I would see to cut this guy is that he's getting up there in age, but I see that as an irrelevant point because whereas he is getting older, he is still very productive and by far the best LG we have. If we sign Andruzzi, then it might be a different story.

    Keep Kendall!
