I thought it was silly for the yanks to go for the two point conversion. being down by 4 or 5 doesn't really matter when you just need a touchdown to win the game.

Then again, Seattle with the the 5 field goals, you don't see that very often.

That's the reason why we lost...Alio made the Yankees/Rangers thread and the Yankees swept them...

Ride the hot hand, create a series thread Alio!!

My bad. Seriously, I'm still just used to 10P doing the job, but he's totally disappeared.

Besides, I don't know if even Jesus Christ Himself could help this team right now. Not unless he has a 98MPH fastball and a hard-breaking curve.

Are you saying Jesus Christ can't hit a curveball?

I don't doubt his ability to hit a curve. I just question whether he can throw one. We need pitching. Our bats are just fine.

11 runs is enough to beat practically any team on any night. But when your pitching is throwing meatballs over the middle of the plate, it gets tough to stop the bleeding.

Last night may have been the first time I actually felt bad for Joe Torre. While he still pissed me off for going back to his sleeping look, there was nothing he could do about last night. The pitching situation sucks right now. And there's no way to fix it in the near future.

We need more starters period. Even if everybody was healthy they aren't good enough to win anything. Igawa was a total waste of money as was Pavano. Cashman should be shot for deciding either of them could be starters this year. Hughes will probably be ok whenever he gets back but he was never part of the early season plan anyway. What I hope we don't do is bring in another national league pitcher who gets turned into fish bait in the AL east.

I'm beginning to think this season is lost. If 11 runs can't win then nothing can.

Well, I agree and disagree. If our rotation of Wang, Pettitte, Moose, Pavano, Igawa had been stable all along, we wouldn't be having this conversation at all.

We know Wang is Cy Young material. No problem there.

We know Pettitte can pitch well. Again, no problem.

Moose still has the tools. He can throw a lot of tricky stuff, and that works for a guy who is up in age.

Of course Igawa was an unknown coming in, so while it's an obvious screw up in hindsight, it was worth the shot.

Pavano was a dumbass move. I had faith in Cashman, but we all knew what Pavano was. He's made of glass, and he's just proved it once again. The only difference between April and now is that Moose can't throw stones now.

If we had healthy starters though, even with Glass Carla, we'd be fine right now. Our pen isn't bad at all, IF they are pitching normally. The problem is, when 3-5 of them are being used every single night, there's no way they're going to be able to throw good stuff consistently.

None of this could be foreseen though (with the exception of Pavano.) Hell, even if you say it could have been expected from aged guys like Moose and Pettitte, you couldn't see it coming from Wang or Hughes.

We've been extremely unlucky thus far. It happens. Fortunately, it's still only May. There is time for the ship to be righted. We need some serious work from our starters to get on track, but it's not impossible. But now it's on the rotation guys to pick up the slack.

Hell, if our pen wasn't so overtaxed in the first place, we'd have won last night. Unfortunately, Joe was trying to stretch Igawa to give the pen some rest. As a result, Igawa opened the floodgates, and there was no recovering.

I'm waiting until the end of the month before I go into full-on "sky is falling" mode. Pettitte and Moose are back in the rotation. Hopefully Hughes will be back and healthy. That's three quality starters right there. If we can fill the holes in the 4 and 5 slots, we'll be fine.

Weaver's pitch selection apparently consists of "Ball" and "Hanger Down Middle".

Sometimes he'll mix things up with a Hanger out of the zone.

Great game by Chien-Ming Wang. What a beast.

This is the same team who put up 15 runs last night. :)

Didn't Mussina once go 8 2/3 for the Yankees before giving up a hit? Shows just how hard it is. I think he also lost the shutout too but it wasn't a homer that did it.

Twice in his career he was one strike away but didn't get it.

I saw the last one but don't remember the year but I know it was against the Red Sox and they brought in Carl Everett as a pinch hitter with 2 strikes, 1 away from a perfect game he singled up the middle:mad:

Heh, anyone remember Andy Hawkins? One of the only people ever to throw a no-hitter and LOSE.

Anyway, Wang was dominant today, and that's what we needed. I'm actually sort of glad he lost the perfect game and no-hitter at the same time. It prevented him from trying to overdo it, and getting hurt, the same way Hughes did.

Now we need more performances like this. Wang, Pettitte, and Moose have to be near perfect right now, at least until Hughes is back. Those 4 and 5 slots are a total mess, and the pen needs the rest.
