Junc. That statement qualifies for most stupid comment ever. "pitched pretty well except for 4 batters" . Have any major league pitcher "take back" four batters that they want to, and they will win 90% of their games.
The guy was pitching on the road against a heated riva in a prime time game he pitched well overall. I'd rather a pitcher give up 4 solo home runs than get battered by giving up hit afer hit and giving up 5-6 runs.
I said ARod wasn't the only failure but he was the only player who didn't contribute at all, eery other player contibuted something while ARod did nothing but hurt us. EVERY Yankee had at least an RBI EXCEPT for Alex. I don't know when you pull the pitcher, I do know if he puled him you and other Torre haters would have screamed "why is he pulling him so quickly". They sent him packing not b/c of the 4 Hs, b/c they needed room to call up another pitcher and he has options. He'll be back up soon if our starters don't get healthy.
I have to side with junc on this one. He had given up I believe one hit prior to the home runs. Obviously, giving up 4 consecutive home runs is never a good thing, but he was hardly terrible that night. Back on topic, how did Hughes look? I saw the box score but not the game. Was he sharp?
No one claimed he pitched poorly. But at the very least, after back-to-back homers, any manager worth his weight in dogshit should send out his pitching coach to talk to the pitcher, no matter what his experience level, but especially a kid in his second start in the most hostile environment imaginable. Hughes pitched well, IMO. He has a nasty fastball, and his other stuff looked pretty good. He seemed to be tiring just a bit when he was pulled, but that's to be expected with the handcuffs he's had up till now. He has talent, no question. The only real question is will the Yankees ruin him before he gets the chance to be great.
Don't get me wrong, Guidry should have been out there, no question. Did you hear the ESPN idiots after the inning? "This is why Joe Torre is a great manager. The kid gives up 4 consecutive home runs, he knows to pull him." It blew my mind.
Exactly. That's my problem with Joe. He allows guys to sink themselves, and then he kills the guys who come through a few times. He's a terrible manager, and nothing that junc argues to the contrary will change my mind.
Wow, Kim Jones just reported that Cashman stated Hughes is NOT here on a start-by-start basis, he's here, and probably for a very long time. Nice. That's got to be good for his confidence.
How does a "terrible Manager" win WS, 6 AL pennants and 10 div titles in 11 years? I am assuming you think Joe is responsible for Hughes' injury?

That's not how options work. It's not that they have say, 6 times they can be called up and sent down. They have 3 years during which they can be called up and sent down an unlimited number of times without passing through waivers. Once a player has 3 years in the minors, he must be added to the 40 man roster to avoid the Rule 5 Draft. Once that happens, the option years start.
Definitely won't be Cairo. He's the only extra infielder we have. (At this point I wouldn't be surprised if it was Phelps. We don't need 3 first basemen, plus Cairo, who can play first, if necessary.)
DL trips dont effect the 40 man roster. To add someone you must release someone and its a full release. The only way a player can be sent to the minors is if no other team signs him.
