Ok, I was watching Cold pizza. It was reported that the Bears drafted the DE because Ogunyele (who has 3mil bonus) or Alex Brown could be cut/dealt. Could Ogunyele thrive in our 3-4 system? And do you think the we should make a play for him? If not us, I'm sure the Pats will somehow get in the mix. We have some options with: Barton, McCareins, Barrett thoughts?
Wow. Your thread title is misleading. Its reads like the Jets already called the Bears. At least it did to me.
How many linebackers do we need? Would I rather have Adewale Ogunleye than some of our outside guys? Yes. Would I rather have him than Barton? No way.
Change the title to your thread. I'm walking in here with the assumption that both sides have already been on the phone.
Not that I don't recognize his talent, but Ogunleye is 30 years old come training camp. We've already got a 30-year-old defensive end on our team through free agency. No sense trading picks or giving out new dollars for another one. If I wanted a DE from the Bears (and I'm not saying I do), it'd be Brown. And no matter who the player is they're going to ask for more than he's worth, because they want to counter the perception of having been fleeced by the Jets in the Thomas Jones trade.
Read the title ----- I said "Call" not "CallED" You guys saw an "ed" at the end of call ??? Your just gung ho to find any kind of exciting news. lol
If I wanted a DE from the Bears, it would be Mark Anderson, who had 12 sacks last year as a rookie playing only part time.
What part of "Jets 'SHOULD' call the Bears" doesn't anyone understand? It's perfectly obvious to me that NYSackXchange was stating his opinion and wanted to know what everyone else thought, not asking to have his Thread Title run through English 101.
Sack's original post said "Jets call the Bears - Ogunyele maybe available" making it seem that the Jets had called Chicago and found out that Ogunyele was available. He later edited the post to make the title less ambiguous.
Then forgive me for getting in here after the edit... I will now take my foot out of my mouth and continue to do more reading and less typing. Thanks for clearing that up for me.
Yeh but they're all pretty average....I guess Mangini's just gonna have them duke it out for the starting job.
They're all pretty below-average as it relates to a starting 3-4 DE in the NFL right now. The Jets have nobody on the defensive line who would be a likely starter on any of the 3-4 teams in the NFL, except possibly in San Francisco where they rotated people like mad last year trying to find answers.
Ellis would be a started on other 3-4 teams in the NFL, and our other starter is Coleman. We don't need any more DEs.
