remember when he hit that parking/traffic cop with his car after getting a ticket? or how he called out everybody and their mother on oak (not that they didnt deserve it), or calling out culpepper, when at the time it was looked at like they made each other great, or when he was quoted aboutbeing a leader for an oakland team (prior to the disater that was 06) and he said he didnt have to lead, and he didnt have to play when he didnt feel like giving effort.... his rap sheet isnt all about criminal transgressions (although he had plenty of issues pre-draft, anda few post draft). its about the laundry list of issues/problems/displays of team busting attitude. hes cancer on 2 legs....and i hope this move not only comes back to bite BB and pioli in the ass, but is the beginning of the end for the foxboro run. theyve been the darlings of the media, and have had a tremendous run because they could always manage their team, the game, and not have to worry about any kind of off field errors in judgement because they put good people in a position to succeed. that is now completely out the window with some of the moves theyve made. BB is turning his philosophy inward, and forgetting what it was that got them where they are (along with a fortuidous (sp?) 6th round pick that made him look like a genius). hopefully the :gpc: will really be the beginning of the greatest patriot collapse of all...
You know, I was thinking that with all of the moves the Pats made, wouldn't there be potential cap problems next year or down the road?
Moss got in trouble in high school after being given a scholarship to Notre Dame (by the way, Lou Holtz calls him the greatest high school athlete he has ever seen). They had to take it back. It involved a race riot. I think something happened at FSU too. Other then that the only thing was that stunt with his car and the lady cop when he kept nudging it forward a few inches at a time.
No. That's when you cut people or force them to renegotiate. Moss was only given a one year deal anyway.
When they didn't use their second 1st round pick and traded it for the pick next year, I thought it may have been for cap reasons.
yeah...reguardless of the cap, they made some great moves, along with some iffy ones that can really pay off if they work out. a few of their signings this offseason are 1 year deals, even if they have more on paper. they have beefed up with picks again for next years draft. hopefully they crumble....but im not counting on it just yet...
The article is a litle over the top, not the type I'd expect in a New York paper but my thoughts would be that Mangini and Tanny have gotten on the good side of the NY writers because they are winners not because they spill the beans to everybody who is willing to listen. As far as the Pats I've viewed everything they've done this offseason as a panic move. They know they have a short window and are trying to capitalize on it. They bolstered their recieving corps but Maroney is still banged up, they got rid of Dillon, they also have a potential hold out in Asante Samuel. They have gone from a team that can lose a guy and somebody will step in but now they have absoluetly no depth. If Maroney goes down does Sammy Morris send shivers down your spine? How about Eric Alexander or Pierre Woods at LB? Secondary the oft injured Chad Scott, or Willie Andrews. Yes they have good players in key positions but this is the NFL, guys get hurt and the Pats by spending freely have neglected to add depth. They drafted Merriweather a guy with a questionable past and Kareem Brown is a hit or miss guy.
The Pats can't "Grow" their home grown talent because they have (finally) taken some hits on the coaching side of the ball with losing Crennel, Wies, etc. Don't under estimate the impact that losing all these coaches has had. That original staff had been together, in one form or another, since the Parcells days with the Giants. They knew each other inside out and also knew what each other was trying to accomplish on his side of the ball. Take a look back at all the Pats drafts since Belli got there and tell me, has there has been that many REALLY GREAT players drafted? They lucked out with Brady (and if Drew B didn't get hurt... Any NFL coach is only as good as his starting QB) but, most of them have been situational players at best and that means having the right coaches who know HOW to use them to the best advantage. Losing so many coaches in the past few years has had an impact even though the Pats would NEVER admit it. One other footnote to the Moss saga. Last Season, Brady took a pay cut to allow the Pats to resign a certain WR (I forgot his name) and they took Brady's' money and let the WR leave anyway. He was not happy about this and told them in no uncertain terms that unless they did something this season, he wanted OUT. This is why the usually cheap Patriots are spending money this season. They cannot afford to lose their franchise QB for they know if they do, the gravy train (read dynasty) is over.
Well, a lot of their picks are compensatory picks. They had 4 this year and do most years. The reason is they let their good players walk away because they have so much depth. If they happen to be pro bowl players then those comp picks are even higher (3rd rounders). Of course this year they signed a lot of FAs which means in 2009 they probably won't get any at all.
Somehow, someway, the Pats have been able to play from a drafting hand of strength where they have all of their picks and picks (1st rounders ) from other teams. They are talented and have all their draft picks. We are trying to get more talented and that has forced us to use our draft picks. I am not saying I know how, but it would be nice if somehow we could come into the 08 draft with all of our picks and a couple more ( a second 1st rounder would be nice) picks.
Lets stop all the bull crap rhetoric about New England is this and that. Put Tom Brady on the Jets next year and Chad Pennington on New England, who finishes first and who finishes second in the AFC East next year?
Yes I did. You asked what happens if Brady goes to the Jets and Chad to the Patriots before the season. The probable answer is: Brady catches a knee game two and the Pats win 12 games...
Ok. Let me re-word. If Tom Brady played on the Jets next year, and played 16 games, and Chad Pennington played on New England, and played 16 games, who would win the AFC East?
The fake outrage really doesn't move me. I really don't care if the professional athletes of the team I root for are good guys or not.
