Little by little we get better...i want to be successful for many years, I am not sure why anyone thought that in year two of this regime we would be SB contenders for real. We are in the playoff hunt, and who knows what happens in the POs. In the third year we should have the team with players that can run the schemes Mangini has in mind. He got his corner this year, and an ILB to shut down the run. We still need a few pieces, but we were NOT getting those in the 4th round or later of this years draft.

    Agreed..

I'm wondering why people are expecting a quantum leap instead of a steady improvement. This draft perhaps gave us 1 impact rookie on defense, 1 RB to replace the RBC and finally a LB to take some of the weight off Vilma. While not overwhelmed, I'm not bitching and neither should others..

Going into year two of the Tangini regime, we're seeing a steady buildup. Nobody expected a SB run in 2007 so solidying weak points is still job 1 and that's exactly what they're doing.

Patience people. If we're still patching holes in 2009, then yeah, bitch long and loud. Until then, try a little patience instead of overblown expectations. It will help you sleep nights during the regular season alot better.. :)

That is spin if I ever heard it. We had 6 picks going into the draft period, how you can just discount one I have no idea. The extra 2nd rounder had NOTHING to do with the Harris trade. They used the extra 2nd rounder to move up in the first to get Revis. A trade that I already said I supported.

The Jets used their 3rd rounder to move up to get Harris. And IMO it was a little too much. The right side of the Oline is VERY weak, and the run blocking will suffer (just like it did last year). I would have rather they held onto the 3rd rounder and taken an Olineman like Ramirez (or some other OL) to help the run blocking. Yes I think Harris has a very good chance of being a solid player. But if they kept the 3rd they could have strengthened two areas of need instead of one. It was a bit of a luxury trade if you as me. I was happy with moving up for Revis, just not thrilled with the doing it again in the 2nd. Especially at the cost of another 1st day pick. I hope Harris is worth it and they have something planned for the right side of the Oline before the season starts. So I am holding my final judgement until after June 1st cuts. But at this point I am leaning towards Prisco's point of view (god I hate saying that).

The stat that both Mangini and Tannenbaum like to cite regarding the 2006 draft class is the 48 total starts. If the 2007 draft class is able to get 32 starts (Revis and Harris) then this draft is complete and utter success. However, the room for error is much smaller and if the tandem get anything less than 15 starts this draft can be called into serious quesiton. Hopefully we drafted two starters from day 1 a la Mangold and Ferguson.

Listen Mangenious and Tbaums know what they are doing boys...Revis is going to start and should show imediate impact and Harris is a beastmaster (who probably has ferrits at home) that might actually break Brady in half this year..our defense has been patched up...vilma has a bash brother...we took care of the running game and our O-Line is only getting better...J-E-T-S!!! get excited boys Jets Nation is strong and going to conquer this year!!!

I undertand what your saying here, and I do not discount it...but I do feel that we can still address the right side of the OL before the season, and if not, we go another year with Moore and Clement (which is not the end of the world, especially with another year to work together) and we address RT next year.

Maybe. But Moore and Clement do not exactly instill confidence. We had a TERRIBLE run game last year and a great majority of that had to do with run blocking. Yes, having Jones will help, but he is not going to be able to run anywhere without some holes. And the right side of the line didn't do that last year, so I have little hope they will this year. And on top of that Moore had more penalties than Brick and Mangold combined. As for next year, they will have more than to just RT to address. Kendall is old and apparently the FO was already shopping him around. And Moore desperately needs to be upgraded (WAY WAY WAY too many penalties for a veteran, and completely unable to open any holes). I know we drafted Bender, but he is a long term project and seems more a career depth guy that can play multiple positions. I don't know, I am hoping they are still planning on doing something. I would have preferred they kept the 3rd rounder and addressed the run blocking/right of the Oline. That's all...we'll see...

I like enthusiasm, albeit a little on the delusional side, but still nice to see. But how is "our O-Line is only getting better?" They didn't sign or draft anyone?

And "Tbaums" sounds like the name of a male porn star. You might want to come up with another nickname,

The Jets Blog made a good point that Adrian Jones is still on the team and might be effective as an OG. I can't tell you how he projects to Guard but it seems that we have more depth and at O-line than some make it sound. Remember we have Wade Smith also. I'm not saying these are the Hogs but there is certainly flexibility. A little coaching up and the line might not be the biggest concern at the moment.

I am a male porn star so references like that just come naturally to me..I will try to think outside my industry and get you a better nick name--besides that our rookies on the line last year will come back looking stronger..There is a lot of time left before the season..I don't know everything about football but I think we should be a little more positive in these forums...Go JETS!

    Jawayne,

Great post. That is exactly the case. This Fo addressed depth in Fa and did not go after impact players much to the chagrin of all of us. however, they went after the impact players in the draft. I can hardly think of a team that got its foundation through Free agency. The best teams get their best players through the draft. If they really felt this draft was that weak then getting the highest rated players possible is the best option. Last year in a much deeper draft they did a shotgun approach and had a ton of picks. This year they had a more surgical approach.

I can not see getting all riled up and or worried that this FO is slipping and/or got lucky. It certainly looks to me that they saw this as a weak draft and figured lets get the best rated players we can. Were these the correct players.............. who knows.

I like the two first picks in the draft, but feel we gave up a tad too much for Harris. But only time will tell. And I agree with Prisco, we are more than 2 players away from a SB.

If Mangini can keep this team moving in the right direction, then I'll be happy.

you hit the nail on the head MP.

The leadership of this team has proven to be if anything, unpredictable. I really have yet to question anything they have done. Who knows if these picks will be stars..busts...or somewhere in between. They got one of the best db's in the draft...and one of the best run stopping linebackers in the draft...both positions that needed upgrading.

If you think you are going to catch the Pats by loading up with 2nd, 3rd or 4th round picks....you are out of your mind. They knew exactly who they wanted and werent afraid to do what they had to. Great offensive lines and great defenses can win superbowls despite the qb position. That was their goal...thats the gameplan. In a perfect world, many of us would like to see a QB that at least can stretch a defense...and Im sure the coaching staff deep down wants the same. Bottom line is this team is very young...smart...and developing...exactly what any of us would have dreamed of when Woody brought in the new crew to run the team...GOING INTO ONLY THEIR SECOND SEASON.

These are 'opinions' both good and bad...who cares....the CONSENSUS was that we'd win no more than 6 games last year...there's still UDFA's and Free Agency...so whatever.
