We started the day with 6 picks and we ended the day with 5 players that could possibly contribute next year and in the future. Thomas Jones RB This kid is a beast Darelle Revis CB David Harris LB Jacob Bender OL I hear this guy will hit you in the mouth and keep pounding you into the ground. Just needs to develop a bit more. StuckeyWR= This guy has hands of glue and is a speed burner. I am a ND fan but I Love College football. Good Value. All in all a GOOD DRAFT.
I'm taking a wait and see approach. Looking at how we went about this draft it's quite clear that Tanny and Mangini felt this was a somewhat shallow draft in terms of talent. This is why they traded up and got quality over quantity. This strategy is okay but the risk they run is not getting production out of their players. They need to have Revis and Harris make an immediate impact in order for this draft to be looked upon with any admiration.
A little off topic but next year is consider as another shallow draft. Two teams, Browns and someone else traded away 08' picks. Heavy RB class, might be a classic one, next year.
This raises the point: For all you guys that are moping over how the Jets traded all those draft picks, take solace in the fact that Tanenbaum will not trade future draft picks.
It's hard to trade future picks. As a Knicks fan, I know. You can never predict the quality of the draft, although it's easier than basketball.
He traded our 4th this year away for Barlow last year and our 6th for Ramsey. Both of whom were not on the team as of this draft.
I'm gonna give Tanenbuam a mulligan for both moves. The trade for Barlow was a justifiable panic move because C-Mart's injury was worse than expected. And, as for trading a 6th rounder, who cares? I'm talking really about future 1st and 2nd rounders.
That's ok, as long as you retract your statement above that he wouldn't trade future picks way, given that he already has.
Yes, next year looks better. McFadden will probably come out and would be the headliner. I don't think he's better than Adrian Peterson, though. After Peterson, however, this wasn't a good RB crop.
Ok Jets fans, you all need to accept you guys got a good draft, none of this bickering..this is coming from a Bills fan by the way..you gotta competitor in Revis, best CB in my opinion, although you did give up a bit much for him..you still got him..sometimes you are willing to give up a bit to make sure you get YOUR GUY...you don't know how High you guys had him on your board ya know...also you got a guy in Harris that will HIT YOU..he doesn't absorb blows and fall over, when he wraps you, you go backwards...yoru defense will be solid, and you don't have to worry about WM runnign 150 a game on you since he's outta the division haha, and we don't gotta worry about WM running his mouth when he can't pass protect
This is my observation, and purely speculative: 1. Tannenbaum and Mangini doesn't quite seem to see any value in drafting projects that much. They rather prefer drafting someone that can start contributing from day 1. That doesn't mean they don't value the nurturing process of players. Just, my impression is that if they had to draft someone to give a few years before starting, they'd go in other direction. Maybe it's their preference, or maybe it's what they have picked up from last year's draft. Who knows? 2. With that in mind, this year's pick isn't half as bad as I once thought. Look at last year's draft, for instance. They got two 16-game starting rookies out of the day 1 pick (Ok. Schlegel is a mistake, and Clemens wasn't given his shot yet due to Pennington coming back strong.) What's surprising is that these two men got rookie contributors out of day 2 picks as well. Maybe this year's draft was that weak in terms of talent? Possibly neither of the FO saw anyone of value that will contribute this year. 3. It will be interesting to see who they bring in from the UDFA pool. Obviously nobody saw any merit in drafting or signing them, but these two men saw something. Maybe I'm being too naive, but I'm starting to see some merit in their way of thinking. Maybe it's just me.
I think this is true for first day picks, but they took Bender who is a project and they were willing to change the position of Brad SMith, so they're not opposed to projects overall, but rather jsut EARLY projects. Which I applaud.
