50... lets not get crazy... and fat guys play for ever... Wilkenson, Pat Williams, Ted Washington... all well into there upper 30's, and still very effective...
I don't know, if the jets had stood pat and selected what came to them, it could have looked something like...... First Round- (25) Allan Branch- Dominant NT prospect Second Round- (59) Josh Beekman - Nice guard prospect for the line Second Round- (63) Jonathan Wade- CB prospect for Mangini to mold Third Round - (89) Ben Patrick or Best available Reciever- added weopan for Chad PLUS Thomas Jones
Mangini saw that our need for a stout CB was important enough to trade up for one so I think his priorities to rebuild this team is a lot different from yours
tanny will be on the phone all night tonight getting a deal done for barton/barrett/jmac. jets will get atleast a 5th rounder out of one of them and then more then likely another 6th...value can be sought in the 5th and 6th
Sam Adams, 'Goose....just to name a few more. They must not work too hard during the summer for some reason. The biggest workout the coaches made sure these guys did was nothing more than power eating and the occasional bench press.
Wade is a project. Revis is ready now. The Jets need a ready now guy at cornerback. They can't have a revolving door at RCB again. Thank goodness we shouldn't see Miller starting anymore. Furthermore, Wade will probably never be better than Revis.
That's why I said we were 90% happy. Everybody loved the 1st round picks, Kellen Clemens, the trade-down for a 2nd this year and the 4th round picks. They didn't like Schlegel. They were neutral on everything else. BTW, we had the anti-2006 draft today. Looking at the 2 drafts I can't recognize them as coming out of the same draft room.
I didn't like the 1st round picks. I liked the 29th, not the 4th. And to this day i still think that way, Brick will not be a dominant LT in this league. But i'm not going to dwell on that and force an argument because the future looks bright in jetland.
That's fine, take best available corner in round one. Chris Houston or Aaron Ross if Darelle Revis went to the Giants and then replace Jonathan Wade with Tank Tyler at the pick. It's just a simple observation as to a different way things could have played out. If you dont like it and prefer the way things went down, then good for you, be happy. I just offering up a different way to maximize the picks.
I can almost guarentee that Revis would've gone to pitt. Anyway, it all depends on how big you feel the gap is between Revis and Ross.
With all due respect, if that's what we missed out on by moving up to take Revis and Harris, I'm not that upset. And I don't think you're that far off. I'd rather have 2 solid players who can come in and produce from Day 1 than a bunch of projects. You can't fill all your needs during the draft but they filled 1 glaring need, shutdown CB, and got a run stuffing ILB. Both really help one of the Jets biggest weaknesses, defending the run. Sure it would help to have a huge NT but they still have Robertson and hopefully Pouha comes back healthy. Worst comes to worst, they have another season like last year at NT and then address it next draft or via free agency.
Well I certainly understand the picks, Revis was the guy they wanted and Harris wasn't supposed to fall that far. I just find it hard to believe that this is the same management from last year. The guys who seemed to believe in acquiring as many picks as possible. Maybe tommorow will be a surprise filled with extra picks, but right now i am having a tough time realizing that the draft is over. I almost want to fast forward time to next years draft just to see what they do......
I LOVE what we've done. We got the best CB that can immediately upgrade our secondary. We got a top ILB that Kiper had going #12 to Buffalo in his last mock. What position is severly lacking? I'd like to see a TE/WR and an OL. Than I'll love it. Quality over quantity... Remember that.
