It sounds like you're blowing his impact out of proportion. Yes, he would be a huge help to the Jets, because he's a great player. But how can a WR single handedly make us on par with the Pats? He wouldn't touch the ball more than 15 times a game at best, and since Chad's strength is in the short passes, his impact is stunted a little bit, what with all the other targets he has: Coles, Cotchery, Smith, Washington, Jones (great pass catching RB), Baker, etc.

That's not to say I wouldn't be thrilled if the Jets, somehow, ended up with Johnson, it's just that we don't need a WR, and he wouldn't have as huge an impact on our team as we can hope. Perhaps if the Jets had no WR depth, but we've got decent WRs at worst.

This makes sense but this scenario would be a dream come true for me

Tampa trades 4th pick along with picks 35 and 64 to Detroit for #2 pick
Detroit trades picks 35 and 64 to Jets for pick 25

    Tampa gets Calvin Johnson
Detroit likely gets Brady Quinn at 4 and then Greg Olsen at #25
Jets would own 4 second picks and I think it might look like something like this if this not too realistic scenario took place

Pick #35 Anthony Spencer DE/LB Purdue
Pick #59 Eric Wright CB UNLV
Pick # 63 Sidney Rice WR South Carolina (who could be long gone at this point)
Pick #64 Quincy Black OLB New Mexico (I absolutely love this guy)

If there is anything this FO taught us last year is they will move around quite a bit and if there was anychance of something like this happening I'd bet they'd pull the trigger

I see that as being one possibility. Except I think it will be Atlanta that moves up to get Johnson(At least I hope so). Then if the rest of your theory is right Detroit would be trading Atlanta's 39 and 44 to us for our 25 and maybe our 3rd round pick. Giving us two high 2nds to go along with our 2 low 2nds.

All I know for sure is that you don't want to walk away from your tv too long today. Every pick made after #1 could involve a trade. Maybe even #1 too if Oakland hasn't announced their decision before the clock starts.

The Jets were 7 & 9 in 84 drafted Al Toon and went 11 &5 and 10 &6 the next two years. Of course Calvin Johnson will not be as good as Toon but a great WR can make a huge difference.

Tune was great but do you really think Johnson won't be that good? Or do you mean because we don't have as good a QB as O'Brien now and he won't be able to be that good for that reason? Predictions are Johnson is the best WR ever.

sounds like phubbadaman is right to me, the real competition for the pick is the bucs and the falcons, but by leaking that all of these teams are trying to move upp if Johnson is on the board, they are forcing them to have to sweeten the deal to move up.

up to date news here sat morning from late last night is that the lions will take CJ at 2 and entertain offers for him....apparently the bucs do not want to give up the 2's they have in round 2....

prolly take a combo of picks and players....

imo, that will invite other teams into the mix besides the bucs.

Atlanta will definitely give up their #1 and 2 #2s so the bucs are out of it then.

funny you mention Atlanta......i am hoping the jets could do business with them if we feel the need to trade down.

with this type of draft and the jets schemes on both sides of the ball - the meat is in rounds 2 thru 4.

It seems like every team in the draft is looking to trade into that 2 spot... I don't buy this at all

Rumor is Atlanta's owner has ordered the GM to get Johnson at all costs. If they do maybe we can then trade with Detroit to get those two 2nds they get from Atlanta. At least that's my hope. Atlanta needs to get some people to go to the games. Nothing better then a home grown product that also spent 3 years at Georgia Tech.

Oh, Johnson will be better than Toon. That much is sure.

Toon when healthy was as good as the best that ever played the game at the Professional level. Predictions don't mean squat.

I challenge anyone who was around when we drafted Lam Jones to deny they thought he would be anything less than great before he played a game in pro football.

I was too young when Jones was drafted, so I can't comment there. Toon was real nice, but you are going overboard with it.
    Johnson is a better player.

I would be very happy if we grabbed Sidney Rice somewhere along the way.

I was around. They thought that but he played very few games of college football either. He was a track star. You can't say that about Johnson.

It is looking more and more likely that if Calvin Johnson is available at 2, unless they are blown away, Detroit will just take Calvin Johnson after trading Mike Williams to Tennessee 5th rounder

If this was really true, some crap site like thejollyspectator would not be the only place reporting it.

Maybe the Jets are trading McCariens to Detroit for whatever they get for Mike Williams?
