If we're going offensive playmaker.....the MUCH BETTER VALUE is at the WR position......who do you want to cover?? Dwayne Bowe, Coles, and Cotch or Olsen, Coles, and Cotch.........this is a great year for WR's and I guarantee atleast 1 real good prospect drops to us.....It would also be nice to have a longterm plan like Bowe and Cotchery locked up at WR for years to come when and if Kellen Clemens comes in.....Who do you want? A number 1 WR or a TE that can't block?
Anthony Spencer is actually the guy I hope we go with at 25 by far man.....I would be happy with almost anyone, except G-Reg
Exactly. All we have is guys that can catch the ball in the short field. Speed on the perimeter, is where the need lies.
I don't understand the disdain for Chris Baker either on this or any other Jets oriented forum. Do the people who disparage him for not being an "offensive weapon" have actually watched enough games to see that he spends most of his time being a big part of the blocking schemes because of the relative weakness of the right side of the OL? Have you ever seen him make some good catches when given an opportunity? He has displayed good hands whenever he's been asked to run routes into the flats..... So tell me, if the prevailing condition of a weak right side of the OL is the same situation that a rookie TE who runs a 4.51 forty but couldn't block my grandmother on her way to the kitchen be expected to have a positive impact on the team? So freaking what if he has great hands and runs his routes well if Chad isn't given enough time to throw or if Thomas Jones isn't given sustainable holes to run through. Didn't we have this experiment before with Jolley? Olsen is NOT THE RIGHT PICK and I would seriously start to question the FO if he does come on board via the 25th pick.
Name one. Please for the love of G-D name one. Also, see some film on Olsen. He isn't double-teamed. He doesn't like getting hit, goes down when he is, and doesn't like going over the middle. He's fricking McCareins at TE.
God I'm tired of people not realizing that we need a tight end BAD! Mangini, please take Greg Olsen. PLEASE!
I agree with pretty much everything you said......Baker is fine at TE......I wouldn't mind picking up a backup with upside in the later rounds at that position.......I trust Mangini and Mr T enough to not screw this one up, and one of the only ways to do that is by picking up Greg Olsen 1st round
If we take Olsen in Round One, I'll run an IP search on your computer, come to your house, greet you at the door and vomit on your shoes in full view of your friends and family.
Let me know if you're gonna do that. I'll bring my towel along and scream into it as loudly as I can while you're hurling. Good sound effects add something to virtually any situation.
Everybody keeps looking at Olsen as a passblocking TE and I look at him as the next coming of Frank Wychek. Granted that's a luxury move we probably can't afford right now.
What kind of offensive production can you rightfully expect from Olsen if the right side of the OL can't hold its blocks and Chad is constantly on his back. How balanced will the offense be if we cannot run consistently because our line can't create holes. Do we need a TE? Yes we do but there are more pressing needs that merit our attention in the earlier rounds.
Grubbs is going to go by 35 at the latest. Beekman should be around on the 59 pick, he came up a bit short at the combine (6'1.5") and people are now projecting him possibly as a center. He's a strong guy though and might have a future at right guard on the right team.
I think this would make for a comical movie scene. We need to figure out a way to work Will Farrell (sp?) into it.
We are going to start running alot more Double TE plays now with that in mind right now give me another name of a TE on the jets staff right now thats a weapon besides Chris Baker??? You got to remeber mangini comes from the Pats
Simple thats what the pats do... and beside the pats the redzone game sucks so what better what to provide a running game in the redzone and double Te for passing plays as well
Ben Grubbs making it to the second round at all is a stretch, and you think he'll be there at 59? He could go as early as mid-first and to say that he'll be around at the end of the second is beyond rediculous. Beekman is mainly a center and a solid pass blocker but not so great at run blocking and we're looking for a run blocker here. We want the big, strong and fast run blocker. There are plenty of prospects that are bigger, stronger and faster than him but they are all first and early second round picks.
