By the way, if you were not aware, that Jose shot was done for a GQ shoot. Along with the David Wright pictures.
Interesting stat I just saw. Nearly three weeks into the season, Rodriguez has more home runs by himself than the individual combined totals of 15 teams: Houston and the Cubs (nine each), Minnesota, the Angels, Florida, Washington and Pittsburgh (eight each), Arizona and Cincinnati (seven), the Dodgers, Atlanta and Oakland (six each), San Francisco and San Diego (five each), St. Louis (four). Figure in that Milwaukee and Kansas City have 10 homers apiece, that's 17 major-league teams that do not have a higher home run total than A-Rod. That's the stuff of Babe Ruth, who routinely out-homered entire teams in the 1920s.
Don - I think you could lump the Yanks, Mets, Red Sox AMONG the top teams in baseball today. I don't think there is any doubt that Jose is the best SS in baseball TODAY. He is going to win a gold glove, steal over 60 bases, score over 100 runs, hit over 20 home runs.
Arod is by far the best SS in baseball. He just isn't playing there ATM. As far ast the Mets being one of the best teams in baseball, the jury is out. Nobody expected their rotation to pitch as well as it did the first week. By the end of May we'll know where the Mets stand.
It will be again if he leaves the Yankees after this year. 10 of his 13 years are at SS. He has to be considered a SS first.
To put Arod in historical perspective, his home runs in APRIL, fade quite abit when you look at the playoff record of Carlos Beltran in 2004 - EIGHT home runs in postseason. Thats OCTOBER baseball.
If he goes to Boston, he will replace Mike Lowell at 3rd, with Lugo at SS. If he goes to Chicago Cubs, that would be interesting. If he played eight or nine, or TEN years in Wrigley Field, his numbers at the end of his career would surpass all significant hitting records.
He won't go anywhere he isn't the SS. Bank on it. And his numbers will significantly pass any in existance today no matter where he goes. He will demolish the RBI record and end up with 800 HRs.
Seriously. I am not too sure he has the range to play SS anymore. After this year, it will be FOUR years that he has not played SS.
