My final Jet's mock. I'm going with a different Rd 1 pick than most. We get back a Rd 4 pick, thru either a trade of J-Mac (titans have 2 4th rd picks) or trading down a few spots in Rd 1. 1) Justin Harrell DE/DT Tennessee.....Mangini will like that he can play 2 different postions DE in a 3-4 or DT in a 4-3. Was injuryed and worked hard to get better and even played injuryed, tough kid who loves football. Could have been a Mid First Rd pick if stayed healthy. His bicep is healed and his strenght is just about back to normal. I really believe the Flexibility of Harrell playing multiple postions....convinces Tangini he's our guy. 2a) Josh Wilson, CB, Maryland........Very smart player academic-all american. Wilson is quick and has great measurables, except for height, which he overcomes with his athletic ability. Jet's spoke with him extensively at the Senior Bowl. 2b) Ben Patrick, TE, Delaware.....I really like Ben, a mature player who has great hands and is a adequate blocker. Has the potential to be a very good TE. I disagree with the "Just like Chris Baker" comments, they couldn't be more wrong, Patrick can strech the field, where Baker can't. 3) Dan Bazuin, DE/OLB Central Michigan.........Unbelieveable production....Double digit sacks 2 years in a row. played at a lower competiton school, but excelled in the Shrine game. Played with his hand down, but will adjust to OLB. 4) Leroy Harris OG, NC ST.......Tough strong player. Can play center also. 5) Dave Ball, WR, New Hampshire.....productive receiver breaking many receiving records. Not fast but should be a solid 3rd WR. Smart, mature player. 6) Louis Leonard, DT, Fresno St.....Big NT for a 3-4....6' 4"+, 325 LBs. Worth a shot in Rd 6.
Well I like your picks except: 1. Taking Harrell just doesnt sit well with me. 2. You took 2 DTs in one draft. 3. Patrick won't be available that far down in RD2 in my opinion. 4. Bazuin is a best. He has his own website too. Its pretty bad ass. 5. If i repeat my position on how we should draft another time I may explode.
1) Why? You didn't explain you reason. Have you seen Harrell play? When healthy, he's a force. 2) No I did not. Harrell will be a 3-4 DE most of the time and can rotate occasionally to a DT in a 4-3. It's very important to have flexiblity in the D-Line position and have players that can rotate in and out. 3) I think there's a better than 50/50 shot Patrick will be available in late Rd 2. Cincy could take Patrick in Rd 2 though.
i like every pick except this one, harrell is most likely not going to be a first rounder; hes probably going to end up being a DE so why use a 1st rounder on a position we just added to via free agency
Sorry, allow my to elaborate. Yes. Harrell is a force when he's healthy. I think we found the important phrase in that sentence. I haven't seen him play too much but I've seen enough to know he's not a bad player, but our need for a 3-4 DE or a DT in 4-3 situations is not great enough to use our first over all pick on it. We just invested in 3 DL players in free agency and if we add another it shouldnt be till day 2. We can argue this all we want but I'm not going to budge on that unless its for a DE/OLB style player. We also have plenty of NTs on roster but if we want to add yet another big guy I guess we can but we should focus more on other positions when we're that far into the draft. We also just traded for a top tier RB in T. Jones and we should focus our first over all pick to opening up holes for him to run through -- Blalock. I like the Wilson pick, and I like the Bazuin pick. I HOPE Patrick is available for us but I think you're undervaluing him since he's seen as the 3rd best tight end in this draft. I dont want to come off sounding like a dick, im just telling you my opinion.
Thumbs up over here... Nice work. Harrell's injury history scares me a bit, but I can roll with every other pick.
I like this one a lot WW. But I think Blalock over Harrell, especially since D-slob is our future DL tweener...I like Wilson and Love Patrick-sounds like the complete package...Bazuin is a great value there...don't know anything about Harris, but if we go Blalock in the 1, we might go D there or an offensive sleeper (either way we'll get a another late round OL and WR)...I think we'll get a speedy WR considering we have two top possession WRs and they take a few years to develop, by which time we'll have a physically able QB...and leonard might just be the guy that allows Dslob to be our Harrell, but Titus Adams might have scared us away from a late round NT.
WH, You're not sounding like a ****, I really respect your opinion. I usually go against the grain when it comes to a First Rd pick so late in the Rd. The Jet's are going to have alot of options at #25 and IMO, Harrell will be a strong consideration. Harrell is versatile and I believe the Jet's will take notice. Again, Harrell really isn't going to be a DT in our 3-4, he's an end. The Jet's can move him inside when they show a 4 man front. In evaulating the First Rd, I don't believe the Jets are going to spend their pick on CB, it isn't the style of Mangini. New England has always coached up their CBs and got players in later rounds. Here's a comment from Draft Daddy: DD.comment:" Many mock drafts have the Jets selecting cornerback at 25. While this is a need and definitely possible, remember that HC Eric Mangini has a history of turning mid to late round selections, even undrafted players into servicable cornerbacks with the Patriots. Not many other franchises have that skill in their coaching staff, and for that reason we believe the team will go in a different direction unless a top prospect falls through the cracks". Spencer is an option, but there is terrific value in later Rds for an OLB. As far as Blalock, I love him, and would love for the Jets to take him, but I believe the Jets will take Harrell if he's available. Harrell's stock is rising and at worst, won't fall out of Rd 1. Everyone, or almost everyone, is drafting Blalock in Rd 1, I just like showing another option
