It takes two to trade though. If the FO is deadset on drafting Blalock, and they think he might last 8 more picks, it's dangerous to trade down. It's the optimum scenario to trade down, grab some later picks and still get your guy, but it's playing with fire.

Cotch brought up a great point in Mangold, though. Centers are never taken in round one and we took one last year in round one. If we'll take Mangold, and they view Blalock at that same level, they'll take him, too.

I'm pretty suprised Yisman usually your a good poster. But no rather than giving an opinion you insist on being a smartass...way to go. JetsfanMack I agree that if the Jets FO believes Blalock is a future stud at guard that they need to grab him where he's at. However, and I find this as a positive we have NO IDEA what the hell they're thinking. If they trade down it isn't an admission that there was no one available at their spot so they traded out of 25, it's just the point of view that they like someone alot but thought they could grab him at a later pick while amassing more assets.

exactly - remember what happened when we (suppoedly) traded back because we thought Chris Gocong would slide to us - not only did we not get him, but we got Schlegel.

As a General Manager in the Cap era you have to put a certain value on each position. Obviously QB is #1 and then Pass Rushing DE, RB, WR, LT, LB and CB. Now that can change a bit when you consider certain players like a Kerry Rhodes or a Steve Hutchinson, but you still need the cap money to get the other players.

If Blaylock can play RT also, and be our Run Blocking RT to help our Running Game, that's a different story. However, I still shy away from picking an OG #1.

And no, if we neve have a pro bowl OG but we have a Pro Bowl LT and C, then I'll be happy...

I think we will all be surprised at what the Jets do. If I have to guess there will be a deal of some sort before the draft. About the only think I'm confident in is that we will not be drafting at #25 in the first round.

I've got a hunch we might trade up anyway but building a better offensive line is going to make the entire team better. It's going to give Chad more time to throw, receivers more time to get open, we'll be able to run the ball more increasing our time of possession, keeping the defense off the field, getting better field position et cetera. In today's NFL the distinctions between offensive lineman is decreasing, it's about how the unit as a whole plays.

We've over analyzed it so much, I agree they'll probably shock us all

How about taking Ryan Kalil the best center in the draft and having him play guard and backup center??? You never know with Tangini....

Production, versatility, intelligence and leadership are traits that the Jets decision makers value. Blalock has ALL of these traits. Having these traits increases the probability that a player will be successful during the course of his first contract.

In the era of Free Agency, why are you worried about the cap cost of a player's second contract. That bridge should be crossed at that time and not sooner. If Blalock can have the immediate impact during the course of his first contract then the pick can be deemed successful. At the end of the first contract, the decision makers, we hope will make the right decision in terms of whether the player should be retained or let go.

    Just my two cents.

I like the draft picks in your signature; not sure if we would take Walker at three, but apparently the Jets like him. This Wilson kid seems like a player, and a smart team-oriented guy. If obvious value at corner is gone at 25, I think we do target Wilson in Rd. 2.

three consecutive first round picks on offensive lineman just doesn't make sense to me; especially if guys who are loaded with potential and playmaking ability are still on the board like olsen, houston, ross, or even timmons

Does it matter whether or not the three linemen drafted one after the other pan out and help the team?Or do you just not like the idea that we drafted three linemen in a row regardless of how they help the team? What does it matter whether we draft a kicker, punter and a long snapper in three straight drafts? The bottom line is if they help this team, we shouldnt care what position we draft.

Agree. As long as the guy has a solid impact then they made a good choice. That said, I'd still love to see Blalock in green and white. Most of our skill positions are set on offense. A solid 3rd receiver would be nice but aside of that we're in pretty good shape. With the addition of Jones we have a real threat in the backfield now, and Blalock could really help take the offense to that next level. Admittedly I'd be a bit bumbed if we don't select him, but I also like the idea of picking an immediate starter at CB. Blalock, Revis, or trade down.

I'm just getting sick of constantly seeing this over and over again on the Jets board.

not only are their 5 threads a day on Blalock, the people starting the threads can't even be bothered to spell his name correctly. Give me a break already.

    Build around the run

In my opinion the FO will take Blalock because with the type of QB we have in Chad (and I am a big supporter) we will get to the game via one of the best running games in the league. We now have the workhorse for at least 3 more years in T Jones, now we need to have the best O line in the league. Blalock makes sense because it fits the blueprint for how this team will get to the big dance on the offensive side of the ball - power bruising running ( L Washington is perfect change of pace back) and possession receivers who fit Chad's capabilities in throwing the ball.

I also feel this way because the other big need we have, CB, from the draft interview yesterday our lead scout praised the CB's who will be off the board at 25 and was only lukewarm on the Ross who will be there at 25.

Ideally, I would love to see us trade down a few picks, land Blalock and pick up another third in the process to build depth. The draft is very deep at CB and WR so we could certainly get out #2 CB with one of second picks.

Draft Blalock - keep Chad upright and crush your opponent with T Jones and L Washington!!! formula for succes!

When you look at a team's salary cap situation and where they have to allocate money, it really IS silly to take a guard in the first round, particularly when our starters are not terrible. While it IS important to have a solid interior line, most teams accomplish this without grossly overpaying. I dislike Brandon Moore, but he'd be a starter on lots of teams. Kendall still has some gas in the tank.

That said, I don't think Blalock is going in the first round. Guards are notorious droppers on draft day. If the Jets intention is to take a guard, I would prefer they attempt to trade back. There will be lots of teams trying to get that overrated draft day riser at QB(my pick here is Stanton, a Rosenhaus client).

Finally, the fact that the Pats took Mankins in round one means nothing. The Pats also took Daniel Graham in round one. Everything they do is not draft dogma.

How can it not make sense to you, unless of course you've been a staunch supporter of the prior regime which completely ignored building the O-Line.

The only positions which are a "Lock" on the OL right now are LT and C- outside of that, Kendall has no more than 2 seasons left in the tank, Moore is a liability and Clement is a journeyman, not a solution to our long-term needs.

If an O-Lineman in the first round is as much of a "sure thing" and a true fit for this team, where bringing him onboard would only upgrade the position, why would you possibly want to ignore it?

I now that you have this hangup for Olsen, but how in god's name do you expect our QB to get him the ball downfield if the pocket is collapsing around him? How do you expect Jones to run to the right if the line won't be there to support him? Maybe we can just run to the left and use 3 step drops for every throw- then we can ignore the OL when it really counts.
