Jeter's numbers will make him look pathetic when compared to A-Rod. What puts Jeter in the argument with A-Rod is performance under pressure in the big spot against the best, stat wise he is just a good player not HOF certainly in the future after the current Yankee faithfull are dead and burried Jeter will be an oil spot on A-Rods legend because of guys like you who didn't see them play. Had Namath failed he would be another guy with great talent, but he didn't fail, he stepped up and delivered against the best any one up to that point had ever seen that's why he is in for delivering in the clutch spot something that any Yankee fan should understand.
Jeter has postseason success to bolster his argument, Namath doesn't have that over Dawson. Jeter's #s on his own are great, they aren't great like ARod's but they are great, Joe's #s aren't great.

I polled some guys in my fantasy league (5 responded....none of them Jet fans) on the following: Will Curtis Martin be inducted into the Hall of Fame (Yes/No)? - All 5 guys responded Yes. If yes, is he a First Ballot HOFer? - 3 guys responded Yes; 2 responded No. Rank these 4 players: Marcus Allen Tony Dorsett Franco Harris Curtis Martin - All 5 guys agreed that Dorsett is #1. Interestingly, the average ranking for the other 3 guys was identical. Not a scientific poll, but it is kind of interesting to see non-Jet fan opinions. DbJ
I don't think any of those guys is appreciably better than any of the others. If I had to pick one in his prime I'd take Harris, because of all the rings, but it wouldn't be an easy choice.

There are 7 players playing right now who have a better shot at being a first ballot Hall of Famer than Curtis Martin. Can you name them?
Running backs? Only one I can think of is Tomlinson and only if he stays healthy for another 6 years. (I was only referring to RBs when I said that about Martin).

Its not a list of the best RB ever. It is a list of first ballot HOFers (plus Martin) who people in this thread have said Martin is better than.
Peyton Manning Tom Brady Brett Favre Tony Gonzalez (will be far and away the leader all-time for TE's when he is done) LaDainian Tomlinson (2 seasons away from first ballot Hall of Famer at his current pace) Marvin Harrison (will pass Tim Brown and maybe Cris Carter and be #2 all time after this season, holds the single season record for receptions by a 20 catch margin!) Jonathan Ogden (pro bowl from his 2nd year until now, widely regarded as the best offensive lineman of his day) That's who I see as the likely first ballot guys right now. Ray Lewis has no chance because of the murder trial. Since then he's made the pro bowl twice in 6 seasons. Viniateri is a very interesting choice. He's not on my list but I won't argue with him being on yours. The greatest clutch kicker of our generation.
Marvin Harrison is a great example of very good, healthy for a long time, plays in doors and has a HOF QB who passes all the time. This is a guy who will be close to all time highs in every catagory who is not close to one of the top 15 to 20 WR of the modern era and has never been the best WR in the game during he's own carreer. The guy should not be a 1st ballot HOF at WR.
Gotta differ here. No WR has ever been better than Harrison was from 1999 to 2002. That includes Jerry Rice. One good way to tell how good a receiver is is to look at who came second on his team, in a season, because that's what the other teams are looking at when they figure out who to double. From 1999 to 2002 the second leading non-back receiver on the Colts never came closer than 52 catches to Harrison's total.
14 playoff games 1 100 yard game, 2 total TD's. He is a product of playing indoors on turf with Payton Manning throwing the ball to him. There isn't any season that he has played that I would consider him the best WR in the game.
93 receptions a season for his career. That's #1 by EIGHT receptions with the next highest average at 85 catches. Only player ever with 6 double digit catch games (2002) Only unanimous selection to the 2002 All-NFL team in 2002 (kind of argues he was by far the best WR in 2002 and at least one guy thought he was more important than Peyton Manning) As of the end of the last season Harrison had caught a pass in all 170 games of his career, a record. If this was the Peyton Manning story with Harrison playing just a supporting role don't you think other guys would have been #1 in there somewhere along the way? The fact that Harrison has lead the Colts in receptions every season of Manning's career except 2005 (missed by 1 catch and still had 7 TD's more than Reggie Wayne) argues to me that he's a primary reason that Peyton Manning has done what he has done, not an irrelevant side factor.
