This afternoon on NFL Radio they were talking about the Colts' draft prospects on the Afternoon Blitz. Adam Schein mentioned that the Colts don't have a 2nd rounder and may consider trading down if they can get the right deal. I don't have a draft value chart handy but do you think we could package our 2nd rounder and one of the players that we are willing to trade to receive their 32nd overall? They need a WR bad, so we could offer McCariens at least....I don't know who else we'd be willing to part with that would make the trade worthwhile for them. Is this at all possible?
Not bad thinking at all, though Jmac isn't going to be enough to get a deal done. With that said, Jmac would be a very good fit for the Colts, but again, he doesn't carry much value these days. If someone that we really like is sitting there at 32, we have to consider our options.
Well the 32 pick is worth 590 on the chart and the 59+63 is worth 596. I think that's the kind of deal we might pull off if we tried really hard. Personally I'd rather have the 59 and 63 because I still think the Jets depth is weak.
I agree with you completely, and feel that we'll get good players at 59 and 63, but if someone we passd up at 25 slips bigtime to 32, we have to at least consider it.
Or Ross at 25 and Blalock at 32. Or Blalock at 25 and Spencer at 32. I'd pass on Olsen. He'll likely be gone long before we pick anyway.
i'd pass on olsen too...what's wrong with baker?...im sure a TE could be picked up later in the draft, not to mention we have ryan, and didnt we draft joel dreessen a couple years ago? whatever happened to him?
I agree. In fact, Unless someone big time falls into our laps at # 25, we may even trade down a few spots. The spot we are in is going to have a pretty even spectrum in terms of player value, we could certainly afford to trade down a few spots, acquire say a 4th and a 6th, and still get a player that can really help the team.
59 is worth 320 63 is worth 280 Total of 600 32 is worth 600 Even trade and worth it if we really want a guy that is still there at 32. If we could get Olsen at 25 and then Blalock at 32 it would be worth it.
I happen to think myself that we're better off with 2 second rounders. This draft's overall shallow in elite talent and it drops off after the first 20-25 players. However, the depth in actual second teir (round) level talent is pretty deep, stretching from what will be the end of round 1 through to the first few picks in round 3. Because of this, if anything, I'd rather trade down from 25 to the late 20s/early 30s and get at least a 4th rounder back, or maybe even an extra third. On top of that, we can probably still most likely grab Blalock with that pick. Olsen's a late second rounder at best in my book and has only been pushed up draft charts because the TE class this year is lacking elite prospects of any sort. Olsen's got all the measurables you want but lacks any production that you'd like to see from someone with that talent. That raises a major flag in my book.
the colts need somebody who cant catch like mccareins so peyton has somebody to blame and can shake his head (trademark) for a reason.
Trading the 59 and the 63 for the 32 might well mean getting Justin Blalock instead of David Harris and Turk McBride or Marcus McCauley. While I think the OL is probably one of the areas on the team that most needs talent I also think trading two talented defensive prospects for a guard is probably a bad move at this point. I'm really in the trade-down and build depth camp at this point. I think the Jets are a season out from being able to really compete with an aging Pats team. I'd hate it if we got that season out and one or two injuries killed us.
McCareins would be a star with Peyton Manning at QB, just like every other WR who plays with Manning.
Well . . . They lost Cato June. Throw Barton into the mix. If the rumor about Barrett is true too (and I don't want to trade him) and you have three needs for the Colts after losing their starting OLB and best CB (Nick Harper) this offseason. Package at least two of those three with our 59 and we might have the beginnings of a trade.
McCareins will never be a star. His route-running is mediocre, he can't get separation from a good CB and his concentration breaks now and then leading him to drop gimmes at the wrong time. Yeah he's fast and big. My favorite plummer is 6'3" and weighs 340 pounds. That doesn't mean he ever was going to be a good lineman in the NFL.
