We can get this guy in the 2nd round probably....we don;t need to use the 1st rounder on a CB...check this: Height: Six foot one and 3/8 inches Weight: 200 40-time: 4.34 Vertical: 41.5 inches Broad Jump: 10 ft. 11 inches Bench reps: 15 I know these numbers are just that...numbers...but man I would like this guy.
why spend a 2nd rounder on a guy that we can get in the 6th round? that makes absolutely no sense to me
How did he actually perform in college? I've grown really leery of the combine since we wound up with D-Rob on the 4 and I can find nothing in his college days at Kentucky that would have justified him going in the top 40 picks.
first of all, a 2nd rounder on him would be wasted, we can get him with a 5th or 6th rounder!!! I don?t know how strong he is, does anyone know if he got the goods to Bump a NFL wideout? Besides form that i like him as a Prospect, and wouldn?t mind taking a shot on him on day 2. He sould be a good Special Teamer. But i wouldn?t expect him to start at Corner in his first 2 years in this league, Div I-AA Corner will need that time to be able to compede against NFL WRs. Good Prospect but no solution for our CB problem.
Here's the thing: nobodys stock should be going up like crazy right now. If it is then some personnel departments are on the verge of making huge mistakes. The combine and pre-draft period that follows should be to confirm players based on their history at the collegiate level and on their physical attributes. Some people should move up based on other people dropping as their holes become apparent. Nobody should be moving up dramatically at this point. There's just too much info prior to the combine for a few drills to dramatically change things. Dwayne Jarrett runs a 4.65? Fine, move him down. Lawrence Timmons is actually 6'1" instead of 6'3"? Move him down. Dewayne Robertson runs some great shuttle drills? So what, he's still not worth the 4 pick in this or any other universe. Every time I see a fast riser in the draft he goes on my likely bust list at this point because whether he can actually play at the NFL level or not he's never going to justify the pick if he's taken two rounds too early.
I wouldn't be surprised if he went in round four. Five would be nice value, but I like him as a player. Some people may question him because he's a late riser, but that's just a label they apply to all small school prospects. Here's some info: Positives: Hard work during the 2006 off-season saw Brown increase his bulk and improve his overall muscle definition...Has a tight waist with tapered thighs and calves, long arms and adequate chest thickness...Generally lines up against the opponent's best receiver and shows good confidence in his ability as a shutdown cornerback (did not allow any receptions in three games in 2006)...Builds to top speed in a hurry and shows good open-field acceleration to close on the ball...Has above average agility, balance and body control, along with adequate hip snap to stay tight on the receiver throughout the route...Best when utilized in man or press coverage, but needs to show better aggression in run support...Product of the weight room, demonstrating better force behind his hits in 2006 than he did in the past...Self-starter who prefers his own privacy, but is well-respected by the staff and liked by his teammates...Reads the pass quickly and does a good job of recognizing the routes...Instinctive open-field tackler who has the hand strength to press and reroute the receiver...Uses his speed well to lock on and mirror the receiver in one-one-one situations...Smooth and effortless runner who reads the quarterback's release quickly and redirects to the ball in a flash...Shows good zone awareness, striking and jolting the receivers with force in press coverage...Has the catch-up speed and range to get to the ball immediately in pursuit...Adjusts to the receiver's moves well and shows the burst to close on plays in front of him...Shows natural hand extension to catch the ball outside the frame and has the speed to recover and get back in the play when he over-runs the ball...Times his jumps and will compete for the ball at its high point...Not an explosive tackler, but is effective at wrapping and has the functional strength to bring down ball carriers in one-on-one situations...Takes good angles and plays tight in man coverage, using his hands effectively to strike in the bump-and-run. Negatives: Needs to refine his footwork in his backpedal, as he appears to round his breaks and lacks crisp plant-and-drive agility...Plays too aggressive at times and will get caught out of position when he peeks into the backfield too long...Does not always recognize when his cushion is broken, but has the burst to recover...Needs to play vs. the run with more aggression, as he seems hesitate to stick his head in the pile and gets blocked often by the bigger linemen...Shows some hesitation in his transition, mostly when he side pedals...Needs to do a better job of breaking down plays in the open (gets out of control at times). Compares To: CHRIS McALISTER-Baltimore...Brown has exceptional quickness and is a big cornerback with natural hands for the interception, but like McAlister he tends to like making open-field tackles or attacking the ball rather than play in run support. He has a developing frame with good strength, showing it well when jamming receivers, but is not an explosive tackler. He will bring good value in the nickel and dime packages, but needs to get more aggressive in run force.
im aware of his talent, problem is he excelled a decent amount at a college that plays D-II football...that usually presents a problem...i know he is good but i dont think hes day 1 by any means.
day one with those combine numbers...keep in mind manning on the bears last year was a second round pick and he played d2
I think it's a tad bit obscene to compare this guy to McCallister, who is a Pro Bowl cornerback. Most of these small school guys at corner don't flourish. Expecting this guy to solve our corner problems is a bit ridiculous. He's certainly a worthy project I'd look into, but second round? Cmon guy. -X-
We dont have Corner problems. We have Pass Rush problems, which th FO is trying to address. This CB would be an ideal pickup, in the third, He is a converted WR (2003) whose negatives are related to Coachable issues. He would provide both Depth and possibliity behind guys already on the roster.
Posted on 03-07-2007 at 09:56 PM by legler82 http://forums.theganggreen.com/showthread.php?p=486844#post486844 It seems that the best performance at the San Jose Pro-Day was not from a San Jose player. "Courtney Brown DB The Cal-Poly SLO product worked out at San Jose as part of their pro day and he really stood out with eye-popping numbers. He originally started school there as a wide receiver and was moved to DB in 2004. Brown (6-1 3/8, 200) ran two 40s, notching a 4.35 and 4.32. He had a vertical jump of 41 ? inches, a 10-foot-11 broad jump, a 4.07 short shuttle, a 7.10 three-cone and 15 bench presses."... "Former Cal Poly cornerback Courtney Brown established some eye-catching marks at the Pro Day held Tuesday at San Jose State. So much so that the NFL Network is doing a feature story Thursday afternoon on the Mustang senior."
