most teams would like 2 good TEs...and considering johnson has a lengthy 1 year deal i dont think they view him as "the guy" yet anyone see anything on the bucs trading up to #1?....heard that earlier today
The rumor is they offered their #4, #35, #64 and 3rd rounder to Oakland for their #1 with the intentions of taking Calvin Johnson I assume. I heard this on Sirius NFL Radio. I doubt it goes through. I think the Raiders will go with Jamarcus Russell since QB is a more glaring need and Russell has the big arm and potential that the Raiders' can't resist. Here's what I am expecting to see: Assuming Oakland takes Russell, then the Bucs will trade their #4, #35 and another mid round choice or two to Detroit for their #2. The Lions will select Gaines Adams and acquire some much needed picks.
If the Raiders don't see a major gap between Russell and Quinn. Then it makes perfect sense. I know Russell is the classic big arm, but Quinn does have the Notre Dame pedigree and maybe the Raiders will remember that they had their most recent success with a QB that was anything, but a big-armed guy (Gannon).
but even then quinn might not fall to #4.... if the raiders trade down they would have to be content with the possibility of stanton or edwards in rd. 2 i would still trade down and take adrian peterson and the draft picks
???????????? Collapsed? For lack of Depth? You cannot place the blame for 05 on that trade.... You had two Playoff quarterbacks go down in the same game, in WEEK 3 no less, and blame the disastrous season on the trade for DRob.... Not to mention that excepting Troy Polamalu there wasnt too much to get excited about where our picks were in that round. http://www.nfl.com/draft/history/years/2003
Fiedler was an injury-prone QB at Miami. Why we signed him to backup another injury prone QB is beyond me. The Jets were looking pretty weak before the Chad injury. As to the D-Rob trade affecting the Jet's depth: given that the entire offensive line essentially collapsed en masse a couple of seasons after we traded 2 firsts and a fourth for a defensive lineman it's kind of hard to see how you can argue otherwise. There was nobody playing well or in the right position after Mawae went down. There was no depth behind the frontline guys to deal with that kind of problem either. And yes, I think if we'd picked up an offensive lineman and defensive lineman and another player in 2003 instead of trading all of that for D-Rob we'd probably have managed to avoid the debacle in 2005. If nothing else we wouldn't have had 3 positions (LT, RG and RT) all looking aging or inferior going into the 2005 season. We all saw Fabini decline dramatically over a couple of seasons. We all saw Moore struggle to make the grade at RG and we all saw Jones as an undersized RT having trouble with the bigger defensive ends in the league. Why did the Jets not see this?
If I am the Raiders I do that trade. They could still turn around and trade 4, 35 and the third rounder to Detroit, take Russell anyway, and pick up another 2nd round pick. Or take the risk and hope either Quinn or Russell fall to you. From what I hear I am not sure that Detroit takes QB anyway (i have heard Martz really likes Troy Smith). The Raiders would be making a big mistake not to take essentially Tampas Entire draft for #1.
