Some of us don't just look at stats, some of us watch these players play every day. You should be laughing at yourself if you think ARod has been a better player than Jeter, he's been a better fantasy player but not a better player. The Red Sox had a 5.87 ERA against us in 2004 and they beat us, Anaheim a 6.17 ERA in 2002 against us and they beat us, Anaheim also had a 5.75 ERA in the '02 WS which they won and the damagae was done against our staff in Games 3 & 4, if we could have gotten a few clutch hits in game 2 Detroit would likely have lost whatever confidence they had and things would have been different in one of those 2 and at worst we would have had Game 5 at home.
Obviously I am, how can any yankee fan who has watched ARod for 3+ years every day possibly say he is better than Jeter?
Because a player who hits more home runs, drives in more runs, and has better numbers across the board is the better player.
Another anti-Yankee fan who likes to rile things up. if he was a Red Sox player and you watched him build meaningless #s every year you'd have a different opinion. #s are great but great players step up when needed most(like Grape Ape) and in 3+ years you could probably count the tims he has stepped up on one hand.
Be careful what you wish for. He may be a Red Sox player next year. I wish you would stop with the nonsense about meaningless numbers. They wouldn't have even been in the playoffs the last 3 years without him and I'm sure you know that.
I doubt it. Without him Soriano would still be at second, Cano would have been traded or still in the minors and somebody like Robin Ventura would still be at third(although not him).
The Red Sox had an ERA of 11.52 in the first three games, which they lost. The only well pitched game of the three was game 2 when Pedro started. The next 4 games that they won, their ERA fell to 2.66. That's the main reason they won the series. In '02, the Angels had no business winning that ALDS, but the Yankees pitching was even worse. In the WS their ERA was inflated by two games in which they gave up 11 and 16 runs. Take out those two games and the WS ERA was 3.47. Pitching wins in the playoffs as a general rule.
Are you kidding? I'd LOVE to see the second best player in the game in the 5 spot in the Red Sox lineup. Also, how am I "riling things up"? If anything that would be you, I'm in agreement with the general consensus in this thread and you won't find me posting things calling players "Grape Ape" or some other childish things.
yeah we sure had trouble making the playoffs before we got ARod, last I checked we were in the WS the year before we got him. We would have been in the playoffs w/ or w/o him and the fact that we wouldn't have had him to count on the last 3 years means we probably would have been better in the postseason the last 3 years as we could ahve found anybody to get at least an RBi in the last 12 postseason games. Take out the last 2 Tigers games and the Yanks ERA was good, you can't take out games. The yankees piching has been good enough to win each of the last 3 series but they haven't mainly b/c the bats went cols led by ARod. I won't blame him for '04 as the entire lineup went cold but '05 he was mostly to blame and last year he wasn't the only culprit but again when a guy who is supposed to be your best player(though those of us that watch the Yankees every day no he's not) gets ZERO RBI AGAIN in postseason then obviously he hasn't helped you. One big hit in game 2 and we are winning that series.
If we could change history and you guys acquired ARod and got rid of Manny and we got Schilling it would be 89 years and counting right now.
Yeah, we were and you still don't get it. We had Wells, Clemens, Pettitte, Contreras and Mussina pitching for us. That's why we were there. And it still wasn't enough to win it. Three of them have been gone since and we have never gotten back. Three have been gone since and Contreras the past two years. To think we haven't gotten back because of Arod is ridiculous. If you don't think Arod and Cano are better then Soriano and whoever then you're just plain hopeless.
Of course it would. Firstly because pitching wins. But that wouldn't have happened. The Arod talks were taking place in December of '04, a month AFTER Schilling was acquired. So they still would have had him. And I was never in favor of trading Manny, and I'm still not. But if they could have gotten Arod and kept Manny, I'd take it in a second. Lugo- 2B Drew- RF Ortiz- DH Ramirez- LF Rodriguez- SS Pena- CF Lowell- 3B Youkilis- 1B Varitek- C Where do I sign?
Soriano was another choker for us but ANYONE at 3B the last 2+ postseasons would have been better than ARod. You cannot be worse than ARod was. ZERO RBI in 12 postseason games. Now Contreras' loss was a big deal? He had a couple of decent relief appearanes for us in '03 but other than that did nothing for us and Mosse is Moose. The bottom line is our bats did not show up. It helps take pressure off a staff when you can score runs and we could not do that. In case you haven't noticed ARod has been hitting in a pretty good lineup the last few years- why would it be different in Boston than here? he is not a pressure player, in '01 he whined about how Jeter had all the advantages b/c he had no pressure hitting in a great lineup like he had in NY yet he comes here and w/ a BETTER lineup around him than Jeter had in the dynasty years he fails. Some guys can play under pressure and some can't- SO FAR ARod has proven he is not a pressure player while we know the opposite is true of Jeter. they were never keeping Manny if they got ARod. Manny was part of the deal for ARod so take out Manny and put it ARod and see how much you like the lineup.
Yeah, I would love to have had Contreras 28 wins and <4 ERA the last two years. Maybe you liked Jarred Wright or Shawn Chacon better. Your comment about anybody being better at third doesn't even deserve a response.
Sure we would have but you made it sound like he was a key to the 2003 WS run. My comment about anyone being better at 3rd doesn't deserve a response? It's incredibly difficult to find a 3B who can't bat better than .097 in 12 postseason games w/ ZERO RBI. What would we have done w/o him? Since Game 5 of the 2004 ALCS(12 games) ARod has gone 4 for 41(.097) w/ ZERO RBI. These #s do not lie! They are not HRs up 10-1 in June, 4 for 41 in 12 postseason games w/o an RBI. Please defend this for me.
Contreras was the 5th starter. If he still was we would be better. Arod batted .421 in the ALDS in 04, .258 in the ALCS, .133 in 05 and .071 last year. For somebody who doesn't like to quote stats you certainly twist them to your liking. If you like I can probably find 50 postseason games where Jeter's average is less.
I guess just like w/o ARod we wouldn't have made the playoffs the last 3 years w/o Contrerars we wouldn't have made the postseason in '04 and '05 There is not any twisting of the stats. His lat 12 postseason games(starting w/ Game 5 of the '04 ALCS) he has gone 4 for 41(.097) w/ ZERO RBI! Those #s don't lie. Go ahead and fine me 50 postseason games where Jeter's average is less- what will that prove? he hasn't done it 12 games in a row and it's very RARE when he has had a poor hitting series. Then we can also compare jeter's big hits and big plays int he field to what ARod has done in his postseason career.
