1) Oakland: Jemarcus Russell, QB, LSU. I just don?t see Al Davis passing on such a rare physical specimen at the position. Look for them to deal for Josh McKown too to compete for the starters position. 2) Tampa Bay: Calvin Johnson, WR, Georgia Tech. Gruden is in love with Johnson so I think they jump up a couple spots to guarantee themselves possibly the best player in the draft. 3) Cleveland: Brady Quinn, QB, Notre Dame. Quinn has said he wants to play or the team he grew up rooting for and give them their first long term QB since Bernie Kosar. 4) Detroit: Gaines Adams, DE, Clemson. They trade down, get some extra picks and still get their guy. Thomas is an option but remember Marinelli was Tampa Bay?s defensive line coach and will jump at the chance to get an impact player on defense. 5) Arizona: Joe Thomas, OT, Wisconsin. Obvious at this point, they need someone to protect Leinart and replace Leonard Davis. 6) Washington: Amobi Okoye, DT, Louisville. Adds some extreme youth and athleticism to a defensive line that is lacking both. 7) Minnesota: LaRon Landry, S, LSU. Not exactly a pick of need, but Darren Sharper is 31 and Landry is a difference maker. 8) Atlanta: Levi Brown, OT, Penn. St. Missing out on Landry Petrino gets a big athletic tackle. The Falcons are going to give Michael Vick every opportunity to succeed and upgrading the 36 year old Wayne Gandy is a step in that direction. 9) Miami: Jamaal Anderson, DE, Arkansas. Good value here, great fit for the Dolphins? 3-4 look and some much needed youth on that side of the ball. 10) Houston: Adrian Peterson, RB, Oklahoma. Makes passing on Reggie Bush more tolerable in Houston and will take some pressure of their new starting QB. 11) San Fran: Adam Carriker, DE, Nebraska. Remember when we thought he?d be a nice 2nd round selection for the Jets? Perfect fit for Mike Singletary?s 3-4. 12) Buffalo: Patrick Willis, LB, Ole Miss. Lynch is tempting but you can find a running back later in the draft. You can?t however find a better replacement in the draft for London Fletcher. 13) St. Louis: Ted Ginn Jr, WR, Ohio State. Might be a mild reach, but St. Louis has lost a couple wide receivers to free agency and on that turf Ginn would be a real weapon. 14) Carolina: Jon Beason, Miami, LB. With Dan Morgan?s career in jeopardy the Panthers would be smart to pick up a guy from a great LB program who could play all three linebacker positions. 15) Pittsburgh: Lawerence Timmons, OLB, FSU. Versatile LB could project as a 3-4 end or weakeside cover-2 ?backer which is perfect for a team that no one knows for sure what they?ll be playing. 16) Green Bay: Greg Olsen, TE, Miami. Favre needs as many weapons as possible and Olsen quickly could become one of his favorites. 17) Jacksonville: Reggie Nelson, S, Florida. The Jags lost Deon Grant in free agency and Nelson is a centerfield type player who could step in and start right away. 18) Cinci: Leon Hall, CB, Michigan. Hard to believe a CB hasn?t been taken until now and the Bengals would jump at the idea of improving a mediocre secondary. 19) Tennessee: Darrell Revis, CB, Pitt. With Pacman done for the year there?s a hole in the secondary and Revis would fill it more than adequately. 20) NY Giants: Marshawn Lynch, RB, Cal. The Giants get an excellent value here and while he?s not going to be Tiki Barber he?d be a great compliment to Brandon Jacobs. 21) Denver: Jarvis Moss, DE, Florida. The Broncos have been looking for an added pass rush for awhile now and Moss is one of the best in his class and getting to the quarterback 22) Dallas: Anthony Spencer, OLB, Purdue. Wade Phillips had two great pass rushing OLB?s in San Diego and I think he?d love to replicate that in big D. 23) KC: Robert Meachem, WR, Tennessee. The Chiefs have been lacking a big time WR for awhile now and would be a great value this late. 24) NE: Paul Poslusnzny, LB, Penn State. It just seems like a Patriot pick. Would step in and be an immediate contributor on an already stacked defense. 25) NYJ: Chris Houston, CB, Arkansas. I?m not usually a fan of going CB in round one, but when a guy with the cover skills of Houston falls to the bottom 3rd of the draft you have to pull the trigger. 26) Philadelphia: Brian Leonard, FB, Rutgers. The Eagles don?t have many holes so they can afford to take a guy who may be a reach at this point. A good compliment to Westbrook and also would excel in Andy Reid?s offensive style of passing to the RB?s. 27) New Orleans: Aaron Ross, CB, Texas. At one point was going to be the top CB taken, he?s a great value here would help their secondary. 28) NE: Michael Griffin, S, Texas. Back to back Longhorn secondary picks would fit in nicely next to Rodney Harrison. 29) Baltimore: Joe Staley, OT, CMU. Odgen is nearing the end and Staley is a great value at this point. 30) San Diego: Dwayne Bowe, WR, LSU. With the big name CBs gone the Super Chargers get another weapon to his already explosive offense. 31) Chicago: Benn Grubbs, OG, Auburn. If Grossman is going to be the long term answer he?s going to need time and Grubbs is the best guard in the draft. 32) Indy: Alan Branch, DT, Michigan. A monumental fall but the Jimmy Kennedy comparisons I think will scare everyone off. The biggest criticism of the Colts was the inability to stop the run and Branch will help. 2nd round: 33) Oakland: Ryan Kahil, C, USC. Russell is going to need some protection and Lane Kiffin would be smart to grab his heady collegiate center. 34) Detroit: Drew Stanton, QB, MSU. Local product could take the time behind Kitna before taking over in ?08. 35) Tampa Bay: Charles Johnson, DE, Georgia. Good pass rusher would help Tampa?s lack of a pass rush last year. 36) Cleveland: Tony Ugoh, OT, Arkansas. Crennel got his franchise QB, now he needs to protect him. 37) Chicago: Brandon Merriweather, S, Miami. Would upgrade one area of an already Super Bowl caliber defense. 38) Arizona: Tim Crowder, DE, Nebraska. First pick goes towards protecting their QB, next one goes towards harassing their opponents. 39) Atlanta: Steve Smith, WR, USC. There are more talented wide receivers left but the Falcons biggest problem last year was dropped passes and Steve Smith has some of the most reliable hands in the draft. 40) Miami: Trent Edwards, QB, Stanford. The smart, heady type of QB that could excel in Cam Cameron?s offensive system. 41) Minnesota: Sidney Rice, WR, South Carolina. Extremely talented yet raw, would give Childress his best offensive weapon since TO in Philly. 42) San Fran: Craig Davis, WR, LSU. Dude is fast and would give Alex Smith a valuable deep threat. 43) Buffalo: Kenny Irons, RB, Auburn. Fills the void left by McGahee. 44) Atlanta: Eric Wright, CB, UNLV. Their secondary needs some help. 45) Carolina: Zach Miller, TE, Iowa. Adds another weapon for Delhome. 46) Pittsburgh: Michael Bush, RB, Lou. The Steelers don?t have a ton of holes so they can afford to take a risk on a player would could be the 2nd half of a top tandem with Willie Parker. 47) Green Bay: Dameion Hughes, CB, Cal. They have little depth in the secondary and Hughes would help at CB and safety. 48) Jacksonville: Victor Ambirmini, DE, Notre Dame. Solid player at this point in the draft could be a force next to their two DT?s. 49) Cinci: Justin Harrell, DT, Tenn.. The Bengals could use some depth up front. 50) Tenn: Dwayne Jarrett, WR, USC. Lanky receiver would be a good red zone option for Young. 51) NYG: Justin Blaylock, OG, Texas. Snee might move to tackle and Blaylock upgrades an area of weakness. 52) St. Lou: DeMarcus Tyler, DT, NC St. Have a hold at defensive tackle that could be filled by one of the strongest guys in the draft. 53) Dallas: Ray McDonald, DE, Florida. Excellent fit at defensive end in a 3-4. 54) KC: Tanard Jackson, CB, Syracuse. Ty Law isn?t getting any younger and Jackson could succeed in Herm?s cover 2. 55) Seattle: Quentin Moses, DE, Georgia. They only have 3 defensive ends on the roster and Moses would probably start and form a good duo opposite Kerney. 56) Denver: Jason Marten, OT, BC. Quick agile lineman would fit in perfect with Denver. 57) Philadelphia: Josh Wilson, CB, Maryland. Help replace some of the speed they lost in Stallworth. 58) New Orleans: Aundrae Allison, WR, East Carolina. Losing Joe Horn so he?d slide in nicely. 59) NYJ: Josh Beekman, OG, BC. Solid lineman would help solidify the middle for awhile. 60) Miami: Jason Hill, WR, Washington St. Not a lot of weapons at receiver after Chambers and with Welker gone. 61) Baltimore: Lamar Woodley, OLB, Michigan. Natural fit to replace Adalius Thomas. 62) San Diego: Aaron Sears, OG, Tenn. Great value at this point and would provide depth at guard and tackle. 63) NYJ: Ben Patrick, TE, Delaware. Small school sleeper would add another dimension to the passing game. 64) Tampa Bay: Rufus Alexander, OLB, Oklahoma. Perfect weakside cover 2 backer to eventually replace Brooks.
i think this is a pretty accurate draft, except for 2 or 3 picks...i cant see st louis going offense in round one...and they added drew bennett to go along with holt and bruce so another wide out isnt needed....leonard will not go in round 1...and branch wont fall to indianapolis....other than those 3 picks, i think this is a good mock draft
a few comments with 1st round picks spent on bobby carpenter/marcus spears...the cowboys drafting anthony spencer is a bit of a stretch i have never seen that scenario...i'd imagine they do wr or cb and then leonard in the 1st round....that would suck to be an eagles fan and the raiders signed C newberry(i know he is injury prone)...but i think they address a different piece of the OL in rd 2 i also dont think carolina would reach to draft beason and wow...alan branch at 32 almost didnt even notice
I love who the Jets have drafted in this one. 3 rookies who have the potential to make an immediate impact.
If I sit there for hours and then see Moss, Spencer and Poslusnzny all go right before our pick, I'd be bumming big time. While I love your round 2, I'm officially in the no CB in round 1 camp, so if this is the choice I had I'd be thinking Blalock or Harrell here. I'm surprised where you had each of these guys going. Most mocks I have seen have them going much higher. Anyway, either of these picks would then blowup your round 2 for me. I would probably end up like: Blalock, Woodley, and Patrick but would have my eye for a good 3-4 end at the 63rd pick or Harrell, Woodley and hope Beekman or Sears is there at 63.
There is no way the JETS would take CB Chris Houston with Aaron Ross still on the board. And there is no way they would pass on DT Alan Branch either if he is remotely available with the 25th pick. You need to redo that Mock Draft my friend.
Well, Glenn, I gotta say if the draft went that way I probably wouldn't complain. For the most part I agree with the exception of a few placements. I don't think Leonard is a first round prospect and while its a good fit, there is no way Marshawn Lynch falls past the Packers. I don't think the Lions pass up on Joe Thomas at four especially if they're going for Drew Stanton in RD 2. I'm a firm believer that with such interchangable QB's in this draft (there isnt much of a difference between the big four: Russell, Quinn, Stanton, Edwards) that the Raiders and Lions should focus on drafting BPA first and then go for your QB in round two (for the raiders and the lions, that is). If I were the Raiders I'd go for Calvin Johnson in RD 1 and Drew Stanton in RD 2 and worry about OL in RD 3 with a guy like Manny Ramirez. If I were the Lions I'd go Joe Thomas in RD 1, Trent Edwards in RD 2 and take care of defense and running back problems RDs 3-7. I agree that the Raiders are gonna do the dumb thing and pick Russell and then its going to be a feeding frenzy to get to the second spot. The Lions are gonna do a lot of building through this draft because of that. There is going to be a large time-gap between the Raiders pick and the Lions pick for all the trade offers they'll recieve. I also agree that the 'Boys wont take Spencer because of their recent draft history. So as long as the Jets address DE/OLB in RD 3 with someone like Brian Robison or Alama-Francis... I think we're set. Is there anyway you can print this up and mail it to Tangini?
I wouldn't complain if those were our picks I guess. Now that Barrett is seemingly out of the picture, CB in round 1 is reasonable, especially if Beekman lasts until the end of round 2. Stanton to the Lions would be a perfect fit. I think he is going to be the best QB from this draft class when we look back in 10 years. He and Roy could have Manning and Harrison type numbers.
I really like Rd 2 ...Patrick & Beekman. It's not that I don't like Chris Houston, I'd rather get at least 1 pass rusher with our first 3 picks.
that could have been one of the worst analysis' of the Giants i could have seen. not trying to say you didnt do a good job with the mock, cause you did, but the mock for the Giants is bad, you clearly dont know much about the Giants. we will not take Lynch for multiple reasons 1. he has that problem with his ex gf and we dont take players who have trouble with the law 2. we traded for Reuben Droughns around a month ago and we wont waste our first pick in a position that has a very little need also, i like the Blalock pick, i would love him in the second, but Snee isnt going anywhere, he's one of the best guards in the league. David Diehl, our LG, is moving to LT because he can play any position on the o-line and he said he feels LT is his best position. but overall it was a good mock. just your analysis for the Giants could have been a lot better
Thanks for all the comments guys, it's appreciated. As I was doing it I kept wanting to put Alan Branch higher but it seemed every team needed to go somewhere else and I didn't think he'd fit in with the type of players the Bengals are going after. I know his problems were not off field troubles but I think they're going to make a concerted effort to go for high character guys. As for the Dallas pick, Greg Ellis knee injury is career threatening and he was a big part of that defense last year. My thought process is they'd use Carpenter more on 1st and 2nd downs and Spencer would come in on 3rd with Carpenter moving inside to where he's probably a better fit at 6'2, 257. The Raiders 2nd round pick I think you can't underestimate the USC connection and Kahil can also play guard. I forgot about the Rams signing Bennent, that pick doesn't look as good right now but stranger things have happened and Bruce is getting older so I guess they could spin it and it woudn't be Detroit taking 3 WR's in the first round years in a row. The Packers pick was tough but when he was with San Fran. McCarthy took Frank Gore later on in the draft and I could see him waiting until later to grab someone like an Antonio Pittman in the 3rd. For the Giants, regardless of which one of them moves over to tackle, they're going to need a guard. And you don't pass on the kinda of talent Lynch has because you just traded for Rueben Droughns. Plus his off field issues are minor enough and I think Coughlin needs to win games now and Lynch will give him the best shot. I myself do not feel Leonard is a 1st rounder and have had arguements on whether he's even a 2nd rounder. But you look at the Eagles and other than maybe wide receiver their roster is pretty set. Andy Reid loves going small school local RBs (see Westbrook, Villanova) so I think it makes sense. And for the Jets, I myself am not usually a fan of CB in round 1, but with Houston around I'd make an exception. I personally like him better than Ross and think he's a better fit and more of a true cover corner. If you remember last year in the 3rd round the rumor was we were trading around to get Chris Gocong out of I believe it was Cal Poly but Green Bay wound up getting him. I think for our pass rusher they'll do something similar and take one in the 3rd round. You rarely get impact players out of the 3rd that do anything their rookie year but I think 3-4 rushing outside linebacker is one where you can make a difference and it's worth addressing other needs first.
great mock, but why isnt darelle revis is not taken by the 1st 2 rounds, he is the best cb in the draft
NO That mock pretty much nailed it. IF Ryan Kalil is there Raiders will not pass on him. WHY? Raiders are installing a denver type of zone blocking scheme. IN that scheme the center is one of the most important positions. YEs Raiders signed Jeremy Newberry( knows system very well), but there are some serious questions if he can make it through training camp . His knees are in poor condition. (two microfracture surguries) Kalil would be insurance for Newberry can't go. Kalil knows the system and can step in from day 1. Raiders nail that center position whether its Newberry or Kalil and theres a very good chance the oline bounces back big time in 2007. Raiders are not going to Oline as much as people think. They believe it was poor offensive system and poor coaching, than the personal. Raiders oline will look like this BSims and R Gallery will compete for LT, the loser will play RT. LG cooper Carlise(Former Denver Lineman knows system) C Jeremy Newberry(again knows system) RG Kevin Boothe(Cornell Grad) RT LT Sims/Gallery LG Cooper Carlise C Jeremy Newberry , RG K Boothe Rt Gallery/Sims Newberry Mini-Camp Q&A April 12, 2007 Offensive lineman Jeremy Newberry took part in his first mini-camp as a Raider this week. After practice he spoke with the media at the Raiders facility in Alameda, Calif. Q: How did mini-camp go for you? Newberry: I feel really good right now. I did all the individual stuff and did the first team period and I feel really well. Q: How are you feeling about joining the Raiders? Newberry: I’m excited about the opportunity to play for the Raiders. The majority of my friends are Raider fans so I have a lot of people happy that I am wearing Silver and Black this year. Q: How are you feeling physically? Newberry: The knee that I had fixed two years ago is giving me no trouble and it feels fantastic. The other knee is getting better as I strengthen it. I am almost there but I have about another month or two before my strength is back all the way. I am ready to play. I will be there this year. Q: What are your thoughts about the Raiders offensive line? Newberry: There are a lot of athletic people. There are a lot of quick guys that can get to a gap. We can flat out move. This is the best group of offensive lineman that I’ve been around. Q: What does Lane Kiffin bring to this team? Newberry: The tempo of practice, running from drill to drill. That is what I am use to and it definitely works. I enjoy it. I love the tempo and what he’s doing.
