Abraham. Generally speaking, players good enough to be traded for a pick, are too valuable to the team they are on to be traded....
It's a crazy question. You can't have enough good corners. That is especially true if your pass rush is suspect. The question is: can you develop a good corner with a lower round prospect or is there compelling CB value in Rd 1? I'll go with Tangini's opinion.
There have been plenty of top skill players traded for 2nds though, that's my point. Nobody wants to trade a first because of the cost. So they don't.
How many of those top-skill players didn't come with a giant preexisting contract? Most of the time the value of the pick is lowered by the amount of renegotiating headache that comes with the player.
Barrett is OK, not good or bad. Odds are he's getting cut anyway. Miller has physical talent but can't seem to progress to the next level. Poteat and Coleman are pretty good depth. Does everyone forget DYSON? He was near pro bowl until he got hurt.
Not in Vilmas case. He would count 3 mil against our cap from his option Bonus, his salaries are 750K this year, and 1.1 M next. A steal for a player of that caliber.
I hope you're right. I would love to move up to a top 10 pick. I just don't see much worth drafting below 15 in the first round this year. If we can't move up I hope we move down out of the first.
I really don't think the Jets would get a 1st straight up for Vilma. Although the interesting thing is that the teams more likely to make that kind of swap are also the teams with higher picks. Good teams know not to trade their first round picks. Bad teams know nothing.
Nothing Matt Millen did would surprise me. He has been the poorest NFL GM of my lifetime and whatever choice he makes with the 2 pick will be the wrong one.
