kiper has us taking lawrence timmons in the first round. I understand timmons is a great olb but i dont see why we would take 1 in the first round. To me it makes no sense at all.
yea i saw that too and i thought the same thing....Kiper is way overrated...only think ill remember him for is his toupee -ish looking hair
I don't see whats wrong with Timmons. He's an amazing OLB that would fit in perfectly with our 3-4 team. Even though we have a solid group of OLB, in Thomas, Hobson, and Bowens, we don't have that dominant, game-changing pass rusher that most 3-4 defenses have. I haven't seen the rest of his draft, but I can't say I'd complain if we drafted Timmons
Yes but you can get someone like Timmons in later rounds. We need to address the OLine and Secondary before we go fooling around with DE/OLB. Plus there is Brian Robison out of Texas that would fit perfectly.
WE NEED a hybrid, we have a Timmons in Vilma and , we need a guy that can rotate in and play the versatile role
Their names are Bryan Thomas and David Bowens.....hell even Hobson lined up some as a DE and played almost all OLB Timmons would be an odd pick, but if we take him, you can't deny his talent, and I'm sure Mangini knows what he's doing if he goes this way
Oh I am not on the "we need a hybrid camp for 1st round bandwagon", I meant that if we do pick a 1st rounder LB it will be a Hybrid, not a 4-3 OLB such as Timmons, sure he is a great player but does not fit our system. I still want Blalock, Revis, with a tiny bit wanting Jarvis Moss. 2nd round, 3rd pick gives us the option of Moses, Abiamiri and Robinson so no rush on the LB
We have very solid depth at OLB right now and I don't think we should go OLB in the first round. However, if Barton is released or traded soon than Victor Hobson will likely move inside leaving a void at ILB. This is why we should target a pass rushing OLB at some point in the draft. I'd be okay with selecting a Brian Robinson, Quentin Moses, Lamarr Woodley or Dan Bazuin in rounds 2-3.
I'm at the point where I wouldn't mind see a pass-rusher taken in the first round. Going from a relatively light pass rush and a weak running game to the total opposite in one season will keep teams off-balance when trying to gameplan for the Jets. And having a killer pass-rush in rotation wouldn't hurt. I keep waiting for Mel Kiper's head to take off like a spaceship.
