if someone said "what's with these Miami guys?", I'd assume they were making a statement about the college's reputation in general. In this case, however, WVU isn't known for having troublemakers more than any other college except for the cases of Pacman and Henry. only way to resolve this is to PM him.
I won't do that because it is too unimportant. Worth writing about in a post or two, though. Now that you refreshed my memory, I think he did sit for a half of a game or a full game. The Marshall thing is true. It was a problem, but not a big deal because we hear about players badmouthing teammates often enough and it is does not compare with getting underage girls drunk. So, unless we're overlooking something, it appears that Henry didn't get involved in really bad stuff until he was drafted. I don't mean to make light of it, but it is funny to me that he was once arrested while wearing his own jersey.
nobody deserves the right to play in the NFL, you earn the right. and just as you may earn the right because of your physical abilities, your behavior can just as equally disqualify you. as I said earlier, working hard does not equate to your deserving to play, it only qualifies you for the opportunity. they play in the NFL because of two parts, their abilities and the NFL's desire to emply them, which is based on more, at least now, than physical ability, so you can't use their physical achievements as a reason that they deserve to play.
Yeah. But what he did in the NFL makes him vastly different, how? (For the record, I am not an alum of WVU. Also, Yisman and I don't get along.)
just was pointing out that Sauerbrun is another troublemaker who happened to attend West Virginia. . As far as I'm concerned, I get along with everyone. If they choose not to get along with me, that's their prerogative.
This is stupid. Has Jones even been convicted of anything? I am totally against this, especially if all that is needed is for a "run in" with the law, not a conviction. What if Henry is in Pittsburgh or something and a huge Steeler fan of a cop decided to "take him in for questioning" or something just to keep him off the field? It's ridiculous.
I was involved in this same discussion last week elsewhere. A guy claimed only jerks come from WVU football citing Henry and Jones. I told him he could add Sauerbrun to the mix, if he wanted. Then, to offset the jerk list, I listed Sam Huff, Joe Stydahar, Adrian Murrell, Gary Stills, Aaron Beasley, Tom Woodeshick, Jim Braxton, Fulton Walker, Darryl Talley, Oliver Luck, Ron Wolfley, Bo Orlando, A.B. Brown, Amos Zereoue, Mike Compton, Renaldo Turnbull, Jeff Hostetler, Willie Drewrey, Mike Logan, John Thornton, Anthony Becht, Marc Bulger, etc. There is also Jerry Porter. I don't know where to put him. In the end, I think WVU has an average good guys-to-bad guys ratio if you take extra points off for the program producing two high end turds in Henry and Jones.
you can never say only jerks come from any football program. Like I was saying, every football program has good guys come out of it, and they usually have a few bad apples as well.
You are correct that they certainly have the right to do whatever they want to with the players pending union acceptance but I was mostly commenting on the fairness of the action. Basically the NFL had a clear lenient stance on off the field behavior punishing some basic problems like DUI's and on the field behavior but how many games did Ray Lewis or Jamal Lewis get suspended for (I actually don't know this so please fill me in if you do)? I absolutely think that they deserve to get suspended I just think it would have been better had they sat them down and said that everyone is sick of the players behavior and that they will be judged by their past actions but any future misstep will cost them. I don't know I seem to be in the minority here but that's just my $0.02
Most of my time here this year was spent arguing with nyjunc. Arguing with him is almost as bad as drinking- they both kill brain cells. I actually feel dumber now. Furthermore, I am very busy this week. Months ago, I could have responded to your post in better fashion (by citing the CBA). Ray Lewis did not miss time to any suspension. Jamal Lewis was placed on the suspended list for violating the substance abuse policy in 2001. He did not miss any games due to that suspension because he was already out with an injury. He was suspended for two games without pay in 2004 for violating the substance abuse policy. He was also fined an additional two weeks' salary.
When behavior has been particularly egregious and has followed repeated warnings to avoid further incident, as Jones has, then heavy punishment as a first "federal" option is not unreasonable. The Titans have been in communication with Jones about his behavior and the potential ramifications for more than a season now. His unwillingness to even report several incidents to the team, as required by his contract, has left both parties in a no-win situation. I was a bit surprised also by the exact terms of the suspension. I had assumed he would be thrown out for life with the proviso that he could apply for reinstatement at the end of the season if none of the current charges resulted in felony convictions. Apparently the final version of the disciplinary action toned down enforcement to be 99.9% litigation proof at the expense of sending the really strong message that a revokable lifetime ban would have sent. I'm one of those guys who believes that the NFL (and any major sport) should stay out of the lives of their players to the maximum extent possible. However Jones behavior has been bad enough that I think he has created an exception for himself to that very reasonable standard. Gang-bangers and the people who hang with them should not be in the NFL. And yes, BTW, I believe Ray Lewis should have been expelled from the league when he was charged with murder after a series of similar events in 2001. Note that Lewis was surrounded by people being arrested on a regular basis not getting arrested himself, however a hugely negative event occurred in his chosen entourage and gave the NFL a huge black-eye. Lewis is one of the prominent precursors of the problem the NFL faces today.
I'm fine with that if this is a player's first offense, but you are talking about dirtbags that can't seem to figure out how to avoid getting arrested 5 times a year. If I got arrested once, I'd likey be advised to get councelling from my work and be fired the second time if I was lucky. It's as simple as that, and yes I'm as smart as Pacman is althetic. Would that be fair? Pacman got arrested 5 times and got a year off. Personally I think he got off easy.
I am wondering what will happen to Joey Porter.... You guys think he gets a suspension or just a warning?
Retarded?blame everyone else but the individuals who make a conscious decision to phuck up. So because I have worked hard to get where I am career wise ? it is not a privilege to work for the company that I work for? Got news for you ? whether you like it or not it is a privilege to work for whoever you work for?a privilege that can be revoked at any time by the giver. Some of you seem to associate having dedicated hard work to having some inaliable right to participate in something that is much larger than any individual.
