thats rediculous, i wonder if mcdonalds will employ pacman. can someone post all of pacman and henry's charges.
i thought the most pacman would have gotten would be 10 games, glad to see they are laying down the law hard
Good to hear. He deserves the full season off. I hope he learns something from it along with the other "thugs" of the NFL... What's with these West Virginia guys?
yea i mean pacman deserves what he got but i dont remember henry doing anything horrible. I mean if players get traffic violations or w.e. who cares. It happens why cant the media stop being little turds and leave them alone
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2832015 Adam "Pacman" Jones of Tennessee was suspended Tuesday for the 2007 NFL season and Chris Henry of Cincinnati received an eight-game suspension -- both for numerous violations of the NFL's personal conduct policy. The two players are suspended without pay, the NFL announced. After they serve their suspensions, each player must apply for reinstatement. "We must protect the integrity of the NFL," commissioner Roger Goodell said. "The highest standards of conduct must be met by everyone in the NFL because it is a privilege to represent the NFL, not a right. These players, and all members of our league, have to make the right choices and decisions in their conduct on a consistent basis." In a letter to each player, Goodell wrote: "Your conduct has brought embarrassment and ridicule upon yourself, your club, and the NFL, and has damaged the reputation of players throughout the league. You have put in jeopardy an otherwise promising NFL career, and have risked both your own safety and the safety of others through your off-field actions. In each of these respects, you have engaged in conduct detrimental to the NFL and failed to live up to the standards expected of NFL players. Taken as a whole, this conduct warrants significant sanction." Jones' off-field conduct has included 10 incidents where he was interviewed by police. The most recent took place in Las Vegas during the NBA All-Star weekend. Las Vegas police have recommended felony and misdemeanor charges against Jones after a fight and shooting at a strip club that paralyzed one man. Henry was arrested four times in a 14-month span, resulting in two benchings by coach Marvin Lewis and a two-game league suspension. He was one of nine Bengals arrested in nine months. Jones' suspension carries the following conditions: • He must have no more run-in with law enforcement. • He must comply with all required counseling, education, and treatment assigned by the NFL or the judicial system. • He must obey the restrictions that have been agreed to by he and the Titans. • He may not be at the Titans' facility through May 31 and may not participate in any practices or workouts during his suspension. Starting June 1, he must visit the team facility once per week to meet with the team's player development director. Also, beginning June 1, he is permitted to spend one day a week at the team facility for conditioning, film study, and other activities. • In conjunction with the Titans, Jones must develop a structured program of community service or other activity. This program must be submitted to the NFL for approval. Henry will be reinstated after the Bengals' eighth regular-season game if he meets the following conditions: • He must have no more run-in with law enforcement. • He must comply with all required counseling, education, and treatment assigned by the NFL or the judicial system. • He is allowed to be at the Bengals' facilities during the rest of the offseason and he must meet weekly with the team's player development director. • If he fully complies with all conditions, he may participate in the training camp and Bengals preseason games. • During the 2007 season, he must meet weekly with the team's player development director, but he may not attend or participate in practice. • He must fully comply with all conditions imposed on him by any court, including requirements of community service. If Jones and Henry do not fully comply with these conditions, they could be permanently banished from the NFL. "I must emphasize to you that this is your last opportunity to salvage your NFL career," Goodell wrote to the players. "I urge you to take full advantage of the resources available to support you in that effort."
Well they signed Nick Harper and have Reynaldo Hill also. My guess is they will look for a WR in Round 1 since they lost Drew Bennett and their starters are now David Givens and Justin Gage... They will probably go for a CB in the second round though IMO.
I wonder if either can stay out of trouble for the lentgh of their suspensions. It sounds like if they don't they will be gone permanently. What a waste of talent that will have been if it happens.
Am I the only one who thinks this is wrong? Cakes had mentioned in an earlier thread that their was language to allow for punishments like this in the current CBA but from what I understand this is largely a newly written policy. If that is the case and any new rules are being put in place they should not be able to punish players for previous actions that would have broken rules that are now in place but were not at the time. Granted Pac-Man and Henry are fools and deserve suspensions but wouldn't it be more fair to establish a set of guidelines and repercussions and punish them for any future actions?
hell yes, lay down the law hard on these thugs... they may have talent but they are crap when it comes to knowledge of common sense
It is a privilege to play in the NFL?if there good fortune facilitates them acting like animals; then they should be dealt with harshly. NASCAR banned a few guys for life over the last few years for failing drug tests?and I think I heard it was for weed. I say it?s about time.
This is great news. I didn't think the NFL would come down this hard, even though I felt they should have. Awesome.
You can suspend a guy for as many games as you want, but if you don't offer help to the players then nothing will change. I understand the NFL isn't a babysitter, but guys like Jones come from the street, and are given such astronomical amounts of money, they dont know how to act. They go wild and act untouchable. The NFL needs to step in offer more mentoring to the younger generation, so there isnt a repeat of this.
I'm very surprised that the punishment was this harsh, and the article implies that Pacman already agreed to it. I do find it odd that even though he is suspended for the entire year, Pacman is expected to show up at the practice facility once a week. Usually when people are suspended they can go where they want to go.
So what will happen once the Bengals are suspended? BTW - What's the salary cap impact if they don't have to pay him?
Damn....the whole year. I guess they really wanted to send a message, hopefully he stays out of trouble while he's gone.
it says no run ins with the law. Does that mean traffic violations, like speeding. Cuz that would be messed up with henry is caught doing 75 in a 60mph zone and then because of it he is banished from the league. I LOVE how he says banished =D
then don't go 75 in a 60. whose fault is it if he chooses to do so, and who is responsible for his decisions? he is. that isn't something that just happens to someone, you have to purposely put your pedal to the metal, so to speak, and if you know that can result in severe repercussions, you should probably attempt to avoid such decisions. it may seem extreme, but as a human being, he possesses the ability to consciouslly avoid being in those types of situations, so if he chooses to participate in that behavior, than he has willingly accepted the risks and the resulting punishment, whatever it may be.
