I've been piecing this 4 round mock together for about 10 days, but it's finally done! It only took about 2 hours in total, so it wasn't time consuming at all. Since I've been working on it in pieces for a while it may not be 100% accurate with any free agent signings that took place. For the most part though, it should be good. So look through and comment on anything. I'd appreciate comments for the entire NFL Draft and not just the Jets' picks. Explanations for some picks will come in some time soon. Have a look... Thanks for reading... Hopefully... Explanations below soon:
This is to explain any different picks or players that rose or fell more than expected... - The Vikings released Fred Smoot and are in need of a starter and depth at CB. Hall is well worth the spot. They wouldn't dare gamble on a 3rd DE in 4 years while the first two have been near busts. It's way too early for a WR. - With Cris Henry in potential big trouble with the league, Kelly Washington departed as a free agent and the lack of a recieving TE, Olsen is the pick. He's also one of the BPAs... - Eric Weddle a reach there? Maybe a bit, but they have a potential need at CB and S. Weddle can play both well. His versatility and intangibles will make him a surprise pick for the Pats. I like it though. - No particular reason for Beason and Timmons falling... It's just the way the draft fell. - Steve Smith and Anthony Gonzalez ahead of Sidney Rice? Gonzalez's stock has been on the rise recently and so has Smith's IMO. Just watch for that... - Daymeion Hughes to #92 to Buffalo?? It's not so much that his stock has fallen a whole lot other than his 4.65 40-time, but other CBs in this draft have improved their stock more than he has. Watch for him to fall a bit on draft day. NY JETS - We need a potential heir at LG, a challenging starter at RG and a challenging starter at RT. Blalock can play either Guard or Tackle and fills a big need for us. Building from the inside out... He'll be a big help in the running game - A speedy CB who posses a great work ethic... He's a guy I think we'll look at. - We brought in Brian Robinson for a visit I heard and were said to like him. His outstanding measurables are very intriguing also. He could become a gem down the road, or sooner. - Mike Walker is nothing short of a steal there... Completely realistic too. He should step in and immediately become our #4 guy behind Brad Smith the way I see it. His size and speed is veru intriguing... - If you have any other questions, please ask.
I dont think we should spend another 1st round pick on the OL...we have set a foundation for the OL by drafting Mangold and Brick. We still need help, but it shouldn't come from the 1st round in my humble opinion. Having said all of that, I wouldn't be upset if we drafted Blalock because if we get him our OL could be elite for the next 5 years.
Id be pretty upset if we passed on Jarrett or Ginn Jr. Blaylock is nice but we need a quality WR somewhere.. I would want Moses with the 2nd 1st rounder though he may not exactly fit in as a Mangini type of guy. Not too high on Josh Wilson.... Based on your draft standings heres what the Jets should do 1) Dwayne Jarrett WR(As an ND fan, I've seen this guy kill us so many god damn times. Sure it'd take me a while to really take this kid into my own as a Jet fan but god damn he murdered us. From the big catch 2 years back to the 3 TD clinic he put up. Hes a tall monster who can be a threat in the endzone which is what we can absolutely use IMO) Im fine with Ginn Jr too but we have our speedster in Cotchery we need a big target for Chad and Jarrett is that. Ginn Jr is a treat to watch and burned the ND D in the bowl game 2 years back. Granted its not hard to do but I saw something big in him. 2a) Manuel Ramirez(Though I heard he has some sort of problem now which make may him slide due to it, so I can honestly see us snatching him up with our 3rd round pick. For now I will play with where he is standing) 2b) Ikaika Alama-Francis or Brian Robinson(So nice pick here. Doesnt matter which guy we get IMO) 3) Daymeion Hughes CB(People may hate on him for his mechanics but to grab him in round 3 would be great IMO.)
As for us taking Blalock, it may seem like a bit much drafting a 3rd offensive lineman with our last 3 first round choices, but Blalock fits too well. I used to have the same outlook on taking him there, but when you think about it.... We need depth at guard and someone to supplant Pete Kendall sometime soon along with competition at RG for Brandon Moore. We also need competetion at RT for Anthony Clement. Anyway you slice it, Blalock fits well at Guard or Tackle. We need both. That's a nasty offensive line set for many years hopefully... Imagine having a Kansas City type of offensive line...... (Not currently, but a few a years ago) The Panthers did have a great draft. Very realistic also I feel. I had us taking Jarrett previously, but I believe in Brad Smith also. We have a great underrated tandem in Laveranues Coles and Jerricho Cotchery. Coles might be near the end of his career; In NY anyway... We get Walker in Round 3 who could be a steal. Ted Ginn Jr. is more of a slot/#2 WR IMO. We have a smaller speed guy in Coles. A larger target could be a better option for us. Mike Walker looks like a great sleeper and a potential steal. He had a monster season on a lousy team. Take a look at this scouting report: http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/scoutingreports/wr/mikewalker.html Hughes in the 3rd would be great, but we couldn't bank on him falling THAT far. If we don't get Blalock, we should go after Beekman or Ramirez though...
As for the rest of the mock I will just pick apart which the disagreements of the draft as Im sure it took you a while to do this. -Bills fans may be a bit upset with the skipping of Lynch even though Willis is awesome. You do make it up with the Irons pick though. -Tarrell Brown according to what I heard got caught with drugs again which means hes a for sure Day 2 pick, probably round 5 MAYBE round 4 if lucky. - Considering that ATL has their 2 RB's set and just paid for the most in their FB, I dont think they have their eyes set on Brian Leonard. - I dont know about Steve Smith as a round 2 pick, but I dont think he goes ahead of Sidney Rice -With the releasing of McCardell, SD needs a WR. Badly. Especially with Norv running the show. Honestly though no real other complaints on this draft. Good job man.
Actually, in total, the mock took me around 2 hours spread out over 10 days. It wasn't time consuming at all, so feel free to criticize more. The Bills also lost a great ILB in London Fletcher along with another great OLB with Takeo Spikes. Patrick Willis is able to play both spots and fills a major need. I don't think Lynch is worth that spot. Kenny Irons should team well with Anthony Thomas. I'll remember that about Tarrell Brown for the next one I do. Thanks. EDIT: I forgot about Ovie Mughelli... Now that pick looks lousy... I've read reports that say Steve Smith is near a first round pick anymore. I don't know how accurate this is of course. I have a strong feeling that Sidney Rice falls on draft day. San Diego should have went WR somewhere... That's a big mistake by me. Thanks.
JetfaninPA quick question... Did Michael Bush die or something because I didnt see his name at all in the 4 rounds. Maybe Im seeing things. But if hes around by round 5, I will go to Jets HQ and put a gun in their head to grab him wherever in round 5. I dont care if we have Thomas Jones. And Fred Bennett is awfully low. Last pick of the 4th round? Id love to have him as Jet if he goes that low...
I really like the Jets draft... if things fell like that I'd be very happy. I think you also did a great job of addressing the Giants offseason. Arguably the top corner in Darrelle Revis. Then Tim Shaw and HB Blades can literally walk into the starting lineup. Finally Marshall Yonda (whose name is very funny if you say it out loud) at O-Line to protect poor Eli. Great four picks for the Giants. Also, great job with the Saints. That would be a KILLER draft for them. Adding a a great corner and WR followed by a solid backup QB/QB of the future in Edwards and then patching up holes with the rest of their picks (which 3 picks in the 4th round are sick). I'd say great job man.
maybe if they bench delhomme...and draft 2 more linebackers and a running back without ankle problems
Awesome draft, love the Jets picks, exactly what I would like on the draft, very similar to mine previously except it had Alama-Francis in the Robinson spot. This draft would make me jump up and down happy, Wilson is awesome and Walker is my offensive player in the draft, my defensive player is Waters who went in the 4th to Carolina. Blalock is a no brainer
Fred Bennet just fell because of better talent at CB... He could go higher. A few sleepers were chosen ahead of him. As for Bush, I thought I had him in the final 10 picks of Round 4. It wouldn't surprise me if he fell that far though. IMO he could be destined for a draft day freefall. Thanks... I'd say most teams had a pretty good draft overall. The Giants got two of the more underrated prospects in this draft at LB. Tim Shaw is versatile and could make a great blitzer. HB Blades looks like a good one also... I think he's going to be a starter down the road in the NFL. His father, Bennie, was an All-Pro Safety for the Seahwaks, so he has that going for him as well. Thanks. I forget how similar this one was to yours... I feel every pick is very realistic too... The Jets have spoken/met with their top 3 picks in this draft, so maybe it could happen... Who knows?...
I agree with the underrated prospects at LB. Tim Shaw got overshadowed by Pauly P. at LB and HB Blades I think will also be a solid starter in the near future. I think the Giants solved most of their major problems in those first four rounds. Like Wolfey, I'd jump up and down if this draft went down this way for us.
The best thing we could do is trade down regardless IMO. We only have 6 draft picks and we really should get more. If we could somehow trade back between picks 30-45 in this draft and acquire a 4th rounder and additional late round picks, we'd be in great shape.
Im not a huge fan of trading down at this point simply because this draft isn't filled with as many star players as previous drafts. Perhaps trade our 1st Rounder down to the Bears or Saints to try and pick up that 4th rounder. I'm a huge opponent of trading out of the first round for any reason unless I'm getting the greatest person to ever play the game of football, ya know?
I wouldn't take this guy in the 7th round... I just don't like him or his running style. Scott Wright included Michael Bush on his "Not-so-hot list" and says something similar to what I said... This is why he wasn't inside my first 4 rounds. IMO, he could end up late 5th to 7th round. http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/features/hotlist.html Michael Bush, RB, Louisville This is turning out to be a sad story. Michael Bush actually wanted to come out following his junior season but when he saw so many other top underclassmen at his position bolting he went back to school. That looked to be a good decision as he was projected to be the top senior running back for 2007, a first round pick and a leading contender for the Heisman Trophy. Unfortunately for Bush he broke his leg in the first game of the year and missed the rest of the season but despite having a redshirt year available to him he opted to take a pass and head to the NFL. There was talk that he could still be a 2nd or 3rd round pick if he showed he was healthy prior to Draft Day but it was just recently announced that he had to have a second surgery to have a rod inserted into that leg and that he wouldn't be ready for action for another couple of months. At this point it looks like Bush is going to fall to Day Two, where he could be a major steal for someone. Good luck Mike!
Thank you Jesus I didnt really pay attention to the other teams, but if it goes down like this I will be extremly satisfied.Either way I will always support my team whoever they draft .But this is sweet .
