http://www.boston.com/sports/footba...007/04/10/offer_to_sauerbrun_will_be_matched/ Linked via PFT: Gay isn't the only restricted free agent visiting with the Jets today. They are also hosting Bengals offensive tackle Stacy Andrews. The 6-7, 342-pound Andrews was tendered a one-year, $1.3 million contract by the Bengals; if the Jets sign him, the Bengals would receive a second-round draft choice as compensation if they don't match the offer. It is rare for teams to host multiple visits with restricted free agents. It is possible that the Jets are deciding between making offer sheets to Gay or Andrews, or the team might simply be doing advance work for next season, when both players are scheduled for unrestricted free agency. ----- The question here is what you're going to find in the second round. This draft doesn't have a lot of true right tackles available. While the The Bengals thought enough of Andrews to give him a second round tender. The guy started 3 games last season. He'll be 26 when the season starts, he started 3 games last year, and he's both big and athletic. I might have to think hard about this. -X-
They tendered at a 2, but you can offer a 3rd... A 4th would probably fit the bill here, but we do not have one.
Might the Bengles have any interest in Mcareins and a later round pick? Mcareins brings good intangibles to a team in dire need of some.
I really don't think so. As bad a guy as Chris Henry is, he's better than McCareins six 40's deep and high on crack. -X-
The size and age is right, if the ability is also right, I would definitely spend a 2nd rounder on the guy. This the kind of bulk the Jets need to produce a punishing ground game.
So the Jets are currently looking at a guy named Stacey and a guy named Gay. Maybe we can get Kathy Ireland to be our kicker.
Jets Talking to RFA Stacy Andrews (OT-Bengals) From today's Boston Globe. Are the NY beat writers asleep at the switch? Good point made at the article's end: we may just be doing due dilligence. http://www.boston.com/sports/footba...007/04/10/offer_to_sauerbrun_will_be_matched/ Visiting hour Gay isn't the only restricted free agent visiting with the Jets today. This would be a major upgrade over Moore IMO. He can also play tackle. edit: I definitely see him as being a RG or RT, not a LG .
T Andrews to visit Jet Written by: MARK CURNUTTE ? 4/10/2007 Source: frontier.cincinnati.com Stacy Andrews, a restricted free agent, is visiting the New York Jets today. He is expected to compete with Andrew Whitworth for the starting left guard position. Andrews arrived in New York on Monday night. His visit is tied to that with the Jets of Patriots' cornerback Randall Gay. In 2006, Andrews enjoyed his first starting experience on offense. He started three games at right guard in place of starter Bobbie Williams, who underwent an emergency appendectomy. Andrews played in all 16 games for the first time in his three NFL seasons. He started Games 10-12 and played at right tackle in the second half in place of the injured Willie Anderson at Indianapolis Dec. 18. As a restricted free agent, Andrews has the right to make free agent visits to other teams. The Bengals would have a one-week period in which to decide whether to match any offer sheet that Andrews might sign. Andrews is beginning to deliver on his immense athletic talent. The Bengals drafted him in the fourth round in 2004, even though he had played just one season of organized football - his senior year at Ole Miss. As a result, the Bengals tendered Andrews a $1.3 million, one-year offer this spring as a restricted free agent. They would receive a second-round draft pick as compensation from any team that signed him, which would help the Bengals retain him. http://frontier.cincinnati.com/blogs/bengals
I like this.... Not sure how much I'd love giving up the 2nd, but, considering both our 2nds are late, and I don't think anyone with Andrews' skills will be available at the position at that point
I'd much rather see the team make a move for Andrews then Gay. It seem like Andrews would have a lot more of an upside. There will still be lineman available in the late second provided we go CB in round one, so we could possibly see what our O-line will be looking like for the next 8 years or so.
I would hope that we could trade a 5th with McCariens, I do not like giving up a 2nd or 3rd rounder for this guy, and no way for Gay, I would rather have Wilson or Irons or someone from the draft
After seeing Tannenbaum work I doubt we'd give up a first day draft pick. I'm thinking maybe our first 2nd round pick for Andrews and Cincinatti's 4th. Also important to remember Cincinatti doesn't have a 3rd after taking Ahmad Brooks in the supplementary draft so they might be willing to deal him for a 3rd and maybe a 7th next year.
