Think this would be an amazing trade for NE.

Asanta Samuel has made it clear he is unhappy in NE and thus lowered his "trade" value. A contract between the Samuel and NE is very unlikely. Samuel has a SB ring (two actually). Now he wants the other half of an NFL lifestyle- the paycheck. With Clements getting the contract he did, there is no way Asante is going to settle for a "NE Friendly" contract that is usually offered by the Patriots FO. No a deal is not going to get struck there.

Asanta also believes he can make any team better and into a contender- so he's not throwing away his shot at another ring. He is also still young, he's got a lot ahead of him.

His time in NE is done. This way the Patriots get something for someone who isn't "essentially" on their roster (he won't be playing for them again.) And anything you can get for that type of player is great. To move up 22 spots in the 1st round is excellent.
    Players who wanted out:
1st overall pick K Johnson- Swap for GJ
    A consistent 1000 yard 10 TD player T Owens- 2nd rounder

(That's all that comes to mind now). Players who want out usually don't bring back alot for the team they want to leave. Moving up 22 spots would be a hell of alot. Especially if they could select LaRon Landry. He would be a HUGE addition to their secondary that always looks full of holes.

Pats would be getting a great deal.

I think this trade would work well for everyone. I don't think the Pats would be fleecing Washington. Still, I wish it was the Pats' 24th pick getting traded so they won't be picking right before the Jets anymore.

Only problem is the Pats have always preferred to pick between 20-32 since they feel they can get the same quality player at a drastically lower cost. I doubt they would be willing to give up one of their top players and a late first round pick for the 6th pick. It goes against everything they've done since BB went up there. Now if they could use the 6th pick to get multiple first day picks over the next two years that would be a different story.

Getting to be re-god-damn diculous that every time one of these cry baby bitches decides they need to make more – they can bitch out of a contract and work a trade with Washington.

Watch them do that and take Revis a spot ahead of us to make up for losing Samuel. God I hate the Patriots.

That's not a steal. The pats would be giving up a 1st round caliber CB in Samuel, plus another first rounder, for an early first rounder. Sounds actually like an even trade.

It would be an especially good deal for the Patsies, since Asante Samuel would have probably sat out the season anyway. In essence, they'd be giving up the 28th and an unusable player to move up to the 6th overall. While it's not like the Skins are getting "robbed", the Patsies would really benefit immensely from the deal.

If this goes down, it will be a good trade for both teams overall, but it helps the Jets NEXT YEAR because it weakens the Pats ON THE FIELD........they will be lucky if Landry turns into a player as good as Samuel, and he will not give you that production as a rookie, no way, no how......the 6th overall pick gets some nice coin as well........it also leaves a hole at CB, yea they can take one at 24, but he will still be a rookie.......he will not be as good Samuel next year, zero chance

Pats next year would be better off with say, Reggie Nelson, Asante Samuel, and Dwayne Bowe as opposed to Landry and say Aaron Ross........Can you argue this?

From our point of view this a good trade, busts are bound to happen and getting rid of a player like Asante Samual who is young and proven is better for us. Also a cap hit of 6th pick works better in our favour because it is bigger bonuses. All we can do is hope this trade goes down and that the number 6 is a bust.

it would be nice to move the pats from picking at 24...and i could hope the redskins could get more than just #24/samuel in the deal
maybe if they include springs they could get more picks, b/c the skins need more picks not more high priced players
what would make sense...is if adrian peterson falls to #6(which might not even happen) to then trade down with buffalo/packers/or titans...and get more picks, but the redskins will inevitably mess this up

I'm beginning to think that any team that makes a trade with the Skins is getting a great deal.

not really, Id much rather have the Pats keep Samuel on their team then acquire LaRon Landry through the draft. Landry will be Marvin Harrison with better cover skills.

How often do safeties go top 10? this guy is a beast. Samuel couldve very well been overachieving this yr. meanwhile someone like Landry will be shutdown from day 1.

i think samuel is overrated, i hope the trade doesnt happen.

I'd much rather see the Pats with a good corner than an "impact safety." The Redskins have an impact safety and they've gone out of their way to get every corner on the market(Smoot, Macklin, Samuel).

I'm surprised no one has discussed how inept the Redskins are. Here they have an opportunity to acquire an impact rookie at six or trade back and acquire a few on a team that hasn't drafted for a decade and they are STILL pursuing guys with inflated value and overrated skills whom they will no doubt shower with cash. Moreover, the Skins already have Macklin, Smoot, Springs, and Rogers. Why the hell would they need Samuel? It's not as if these guys signed for the league minimum, and it's not as if Samuel is clearly better than most of them.

You really wonder why Snyder pays his coaching staff so much, because he obviously believes winning is all about getting name players and letting the chips fall where they may.

I am amazed at how Washinton always has the cap room to sign these high priced people every year, year in and year out. I'm sure most of the contracts are back loaded but still there are bonuses that count towards the cap. Granted they get into cap trouble often but they still keep signing them. They're talking about Samuel and still talking about Briggs too although they can't do both since both involve that #6 pick.

Redskins in pursuit of CB Asante Samuel?

    As being reported by Rotoworld...

The Redskins are expected to make a call to the Patriots about franchise player Asante Samuel.

He apparently wants to be dealt with contract talks in a stall. The 'Skins are open to moving the No. 6 pick, and New England owns two choices late in Round One, but D.C. seems an an odd landing spot with Shawn Springs still on the roster. The Jets and Browns may also have interest.

    This certainly is breaking news.

Or at least it was yesterday in the NFL forum.
