Not really sure what you are saying here but if you're saying Arod isn't a hall of famer then ponder this for a second. If he were to retire after next year he would be a slam dunk winner on the first ballot he was eligble.
Giambi: "We're all rooting for you and we're behind you 100 percent, but you've got to get the big hit," Arod: "What do you mean? I've had five hits in Boston." Giambi: "You fucking call those hits? You had two fucking dinkers to right field and a ball that bounced over the third baseman! Look at how many pitches you missed! When you hit three, four or five [in the order], you have to get the big hits, especially if they're going to walk Bobby [Abreu] and me. I'll help you out until you get going. I'll look to drive in runs when they pitch around me, go after that 3-and-1 pitch that might be a ball. But if they're going to walk Bobby and me, you're going to have to be the guy." Arod: "I thought I was the guy." (Arod walks away and Giambi flips his bat towards Arod)
 Was that a joke? BTW: Nice to bring up the SI article. ARod gets thrown under the bus by all the Yankees for what reason exactly? Rivera seemed to be the only "class guy" in that whole article from an orginization thats supposed to be one of the classiest in the Majors. What kind of orginization throws their best player, and future HOFer, under the bus because of a bullshit thrown around by the media of how he's not "clutch?"
Real "clutch" can't be captured in numbers. What other reason could you come up with for moving the best SS in the game to 3rd for an inferior talent?
For you guys that don't believe in "numbers" how do you judge players that you only see once or twice a year, or in some cases not at all? Also, was A-Rod overrated before he came to the Yankees or only after he failed to become a True Yankee™?
That was obviously from a mets fan. First of all the Yankees never played in the ALCS last year and secondly he has never been considered overrated even by the fans who can't stand his playoff experiences in NY.
No one I know considers him overrated. Actually, the knock on him is that he underperforms for his talent. Fair or not, he should perform better in the postseason. Regardless of the pressure, he is quite arguably the most talented player in the history of the game. Overall, Alex gets a bum rap. I'll admit, even from myself. But it's a new year, and he really has a chance this year to show everyone he can overcome some earlier problems.
What about Matsui? Why does he get a pass? He was just as bad if not worse then Arod in the last 2 postseasons.
I didn't include Timlin because he dropped off in a huge way last year, and the drop off was even more severe for Romero. Throw in Donnelly, that gives them two guys. And I know that last line was a joke, since I know you're smarter than to say that Pavano started Opening Day because he was the best Yankee pitcher, and not because they're being overly cautious with Wang and Pettitte, and Mussina wasn't going to pitch on three days rest. Besides... Pavano pitched better on Opening Day than Schilling.
He's a TRUE Yankee. Plus, he's not better than Jeter and no one has ever said he was in the past...so he can get all the free passes. Honestly, I think the only reason ARod gets the crap he does is because everyone and their mother said and knew he was a better player than Jeter. NO ONE can say that about Jeter once they enter NY (unless its Reyes) without the media and fans getting all annoying with talk of rings Jeter singlehandedly won and other god-like things Jeter does.
What the hell makes him a true Yankee? He's just another high priced signing. Unless he contributes to a championship, he means nothing on that team. I consider Mo, Jeter, Posada and Bernie true Yankees because they were home grown prospects who led the late 90's dynasty.
Wow Arod is def a great player.....but how can you say there is no such thing as clutch Mets fans?? Numbers tell most of the story, but you can't look just at numbers in a vacuum......just by watching the games all the time you can formulate an opinion on whether or not a player has the knack for coming through when the team needs him most or "in the clutch"......there are no numbers for clutch, but it def exists.......
The dumbest thing anyone can do is call someone a "true Yankee". Is Clay Bellinger a "true Yankee" and not Don Mattingly? It's so stupid. A-Rod wears a Yankee uniform. That makes him a "true Yankee". Miguel Cairo also wears a Yankee uniform, and that makes HIM a "true Yankee".
If you don't count Timlin you can't count Farnsworth, because as I said, they had virtually identical seasons last year. And as someone else said, one year is not a trend, so for all we know Romero will be fine this year. Even if you don't count those two, that's 2 on each side. And yes, the last line was a joke, but I do think the Sox have a better rotation than the Yankees, assuming both reach their potential.
