The worst part is, if Damon is out for a while, Torre planned on batting Cano leadoff. Someone needs to hit him in the face with a fungo bat.
Why would you be opposed to Cano batting leadoff? Like I said back in Spring Training, Cano reminds me of Rickey Henderson, arguably one of the best leadoff men in history. I'd bat Cano in the leadoff spot myself if Damon is out.
Jeter had a tougher time batting first. He's at home in the 2 hole, just as Mattingly was in the 3rd. Don't fix what ain't broke!
Well, let's see. He doesn't walk, he has no plate discipline, he wants to be a power hitter, and he doesn't steal bases. He would be an absolute disaster in the leadoff spot. He should bat in the bottom 3 until he finally learns some discipline.
Rickey Henderson Career OBP: .401 Robinson Cano Career OBP: .341 Henderson's first 2 ML seasons: 156 steals Cano's first 2 ML seasons: 6 steals But they look kind of similar. If you squint.
That would be good. I'd want Jeter and Abreu to be 1-2, doesn't really matter to me which one leads off.
He can remind you of Rickey all you want, he's still a long way from the career .400 OBP Rickey put up. Dammit, this boards baseball board is quick.
Either put Giambi back on first or just let Cairo play first and leadoff. He isn't the best hitter anymore but he can get walks and take a base anytime he wants.
If Miguel Cairo and his .280 OBP and 59 OPS+ ever leads off for this team, I will drive to Yankee Stadium and introduce my foot to Joe Torre's face.
i think that the batting order should be as follows 1. Abreu - he can work the count and steal bases 2. Jeter - at home at second spot 3. A-Rod - Abreu and Jeter will get on. This way, he'll be facing a lot of guys in scoring positions. I know ill probably get condemned for this suggestion considering he not been good with runners in scoring position but, you gotta give him a chance and get him a lot so its common to him. That way, the more he sees guys on base, the more accustomed he will be to it, and he wont see it as a pressure situation and will bat better. 4. Giambi - great at driving in runs. Will only be more productive in the fourth spot with his overall power. 5. Matsui - consistent guy to drive in runs. 6. Posada- comfortable in this spot. 7. Cano - overall a good solid hitter. We dont need a fast guy here and cano can really hit for average 8. Melky - decent hitter, nice speed 9. Mientkevich - no more phelps!
Cashman was asked today if this could make an opening for Williams. He had a one word answer, "no". He should have gone to spring training. His loss.
I'd put A-Rod between the two lefties, Giambi and Matsui. Even if A-Rod and Matsui have very similar lefty-righty splits, most managers are stupid, so it'll mess with opposing bullpens.
