All good quotes. Glad that Henn made the team over Villone, and that Phelps might get the nod Opening Day.
Glad to hear about Phelps. From what I've seen of him, he's got a lot of potential. Maybe Mienkaslaskldklsdk will be gone sooner than later. Also very glad to hear Pavano is excited. Hopefully the confidence boost is just what he needs to be the guy who pitched against us in October just a few short years ago. Cool with Rasner. But I am a bit disturbed to not see any mention of Karstens though. Did his last couple outings blow everything for him? If so, why the hell is Joe still trying to hang on to Villone? This news should make 10P10 explode.
Why? They're trying to hang on to Villone, meaning they want him to go to AAA incase someone gets injured. Rasner gets the spot because they're being cautious with Karstens' elbow.
I just figured you would be annoyed that Joe got to hang on to his boy Villone, that's all. Wasn't trying to get under your skin. I didn't realize that with Rasner. So Karstens is starting on the DL?
No, I've always liked Villone. It's not his fault he was overworked last year. With that said, his arm is probably damaged (as we've seen this Spring), so I'm glad they're given the role to Henn. Having Villone as a callup if Myers or Henn get hurt is fine with me. And I don't know if Karstens is starting on the DL, he probably is retroactive to sometime last week.

Phelps has been around a bit. He was decent with the Jays but halfway through his first season with the Devil Rays, he got sent to AAA. He has some good power. Hopefully he can put it all together with Mattingly's help.
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/03/30/sports/baseball/30yankees.html?_r=1&oref=slogin Glad to see Phillips has some class, unlike Bubba "The Yankees underrated my supremely awesome talents" Crosby.
I know you always liked Villone. We both did. I just got the vibe that you didn't want to see him around anymore, since he is obviously damaged goods at this point, thanks of course to the one guy we both agree is terrible for this team. Do you think he can recover down south? As a farmhand he might pitch a lot less, and get a chance to heal. He looked okay at the very beginning of Spring Training, so maybe it was just the level of use during ST? ----------- Karstens is starting on the DL. I just read on ESPN.com that Rasner is officially the 5th starter for the time being. I think that's okay for now though. I don't worry much about April. I like to win Opening Day, to set the mood, but for the next month and a half after that, I expect a lull. The full rotation should be fine come mid-May, and that's when the games actually start to matter IMO.
I don't really have anything against him. Well, except that he doesn't hit as well as I would like. My only serious issue with him is that I can't stand even trying to spell his name.
Good job by Phillips. That does show class. Maybe he'll catch on somewhere else. As for Bubba, in all fairness, I don't think it was so much that he believed he was so great, as much as it was Joe making him believe he was that good. Either way it's better now. I'll take Melky as our #4 ANY day over Crosby.
Well I just got my tickets for the SWB Yankees opening day on Wed. I hope they kick ass !!!! The stadium has got new grass and paint . Thank god they got rid of that turf !!!!
If he had enough ABs that year, he'd of been top 5 in the AL in terms of offense. Phelps' OPS+ 2002 - 143 (265 ABs) 2003 - 112 (396 ABs) 2004 - 90 (371 ABs) 2005 - 100 (158 ABs) 2006 - 140something in AAA Phillips' OPS+ 2005 - 26 (40 ABs) 2006 - 77 (246 ABs) Even if they both performed equally this spring, Phelps should've made the team over Phillips. Of course, with Torre, Phelps had to play much better, and he did.
Mo has been absolutely fantastic this spring. To anyone who still thinks he isn't worth extending, you must be crazy. This guy is still the best closer in the game. And now he's saying he's going to throw the occasional changeup and two-seamer. WoW. He just keeps getting better and better.
