That would be true, but the stadium will be sold out, and the NFL will be popular so they'll make money
GSourJr has a very good point here and, if there's any one argument against PSLs that has excellent merit, it's this one. It's true (as 2004 states), that it's a business and they will do (and certainly have the right to do) whatever they please. And I'm sure the market will bear whatever they do with the PSLs as well, so this is no major news either. But a good argument can be made that, since the very purpose of the joint venture in the first place was to shares costs, it would be extremely unfair for each team to then not explore every way to not have PSLs. In the end, the Jets/Giants will do what they want, but nor should they have any delusions that the outcry from the ticketholders will all but make them look really greedy in the eyes of the public. If they want to create that impression (or don't care about that impression) in the court of public opinion, then bring it on.
So, to recap, after buying the team and telling the fans he was going to bring the team home, he now has signed on to share a stadium in New Jersey...Giants territory. That stadium will have 20 acres of Giants facilities surrounding it. The team is moving to a corporate park in Jersey. It's costing him nothing because he's borrowing the money, then the fans will make the payments for him through PSLs, ticket sales and merchandising. The team is looking up, so I give him credit for hiring a good coach and GM, but from the business end it's a disaster. Yes, fans from Jersey will be happy, but NY is more important than NJ in the grand scheme of things. Don't get insulted, Jerseyites, it just is. Know how I know this? Look at a billboard, or a magazine ad. Any clothing ad, for example. What does it say at the bottom? London, Tokyo, Rome, New York. It doesn't say London, Tokyo, Rome, East Rutherford. Hess set the wheels in motion and now Woody drove the stake through our hearts...and if Jersey Jets fans want to flame me for this post, go right ahead. I'll be IN JERSEY at every NJJets game sitting on the 50, and I'm gonna litter afterwards.
Gator, this is one of the funniest posts you've ever done. And what's even funnier, I really think you believe all this!  Only one question for you though... if NY is more "important" than NJ, how come you don't have either the Jets or the Giants there? It therefore can't be that "important." Hahahahahahaaa..........
When the game comes on the tube, or when they come back from commercial, where does the camera point? At the Empire State Building, or towards the Delaware bridge? People from around the country, they think Jersey is just a place NY rents on Sundays.
You NY'ers are high. The man tried everything to bring the team to the west side. Your jack ass politicians squished it, not the Jets. BTW, how much money did NY get for sacred rail yards. NADA!!! And Queens is not NY, its the suburbs and its a more of a dump then the meadowlands. And yes I am from NJ but I wanted them to play in Manhattan and I have been a season tic holder for 27 years so I went to Shea. If the PSL's are 5k I am done no matter where they played
I'm not. I'll be there........IN Jersey. The Yankees play in the Bronx, for gods sake, and they lead baseball in attendance by far. The US Open is in Queens, and the US Open blows away ANY sporting event as far as food, babes.....everything. So don't give me this Queens is bad stuff. Queens would have been fine, and Woody never explored Queens. This is not over till we say it's over. Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Who's with me?
One of the things that most frustrates me with the new stadium being built on PSL's are both teams are going after the fans. I am under the impression that when other facilities are built on PSL money, PSL holders are given first option to purchase their seat, regardless of event. What happens if there is a concert both fans want to go to? Dare I mention it, but what if there is a Super Bowl in the new place. Who gets it? Raise the money by corporately whoring out every entrance and slap a logo on every inch of the stadium but no PSLs
That's another good point, Malonesk: If both Jets and Giants charge PSLs, there is no exclusive right to purchase tickets for other events.
That's cause you only own the seats for Jets/Giants games and nothing else http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Personal_Seat_License A personal seat license gives the holder the right to buy season tickets for a certain seat in the stadium. This holder can sell the seat license to someone else if they no longer wish to purchase season tickets. However, if the seat license holder chooses not to sell the seat licenses and does not renew the season tickets, the holder forfeits the license back to the team. Most seat licenses are valid for as long as the team plays in the current venue. Seat licenses can be called various different names- the most common term in North America is "Personal Seat License" and in Europe is "Debenture". The primary reason sporting venues offer PSLs is that the proceeds are used to help pay the debt incurred during the construction of the stadium or arena. Also, many supporters feel that such licenses essentially give fans ownership of his or her seat. But opponents of PSLs see this as another way to extract money from the sports fans.
Problem is the real fans get outpriced and stay away. The fans that then replace them will be as fickle as they come. Have a bad season and you won't even see bag heads. For the long term future of the team(s) they must take into consideration where the loyalties and money lies. In my experience the cheaper your ticket prices the more money is spent on merchandise etc... Expensive ticket prices only serves to weld peoples pockets shut.
227 and Gator: NY, NJ? --nothing we can do about it now. We gotta stop the infighting; they don't care in New England whether you're from Glen Cove or Glen Ridge, we're all Green, we're all Jet fans, we're all New Yorkers to those in Boston, Miami, Buffalo, and every other NFL town. I was born in Manhattan, grew up in Jersey, and now live in Philadelphia. Rutherford is more convenient for me living in Philly, but I would've preferred they put the stadium back in Queens, even though it would've made the trip a bitch. Jets in 2004: We understand capitalism is the American way. We understand you're loaded and the PSLs won't be a burden for you. But you are in the minority. You're doing a disservice to the rest of us by dismissing our objections to the idea of a PSL which really is a form of extortion. It's extortion because the season ticket holders have already earned their "license" by pouring tens of thousands of dollars into tickets and merchandise supporting this brand. Don't think Jay and Woody aren't monitoring this thread to see how their trial balloon is going over. You want to roll over fine, but don't be hushing the rest of us up. Fans should be screaming loudly, and not just on this forum. A PSL for a shared stadium is bullshit. How many veins are we supposed to open to prove our loyalty to this organization. NO. WE'RE MAD AS HELL AND WE'RE NOT GOING PAY THEIR PSL!
I hate to be the one to break this to you, but it's over. This deal is done. They break ground in May. See you on the Jersey Turnpike (and quit littering here in NJ... wait 'till you get to NY to throw your trash out the window as you usually do).
All right, I'll C ya there. Though, you may have to change your handle to Section 327 by the time they are playing in the new stadium. Also, Dean Wormer is on the phone for you. Something about double secret probation. Line 2.....
The Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Why, those dirty bastards! And here all these years I've been blaming Japan for that!
