This was a weird article to me, it's basically about how he came here expecting to start and also to help people learn mangini's system, but really just played specials and helped in the meeting room. It mentions Thomas and Hobson;s good seasons as the reasons for that, but I get the idea that they are expecting things to be different this season or something, and that it was a surprise that Chatam didn't start. I didn't think he was all that great though, to me he looked like a backup LB the entire time, and I certainly don;t see him stepping in to take a starting spot from either of the guys we have there now.

    Here's the article link:

I think Bowen's signing makes Chatham the odd man out.

If they keep him they will have 3 guys at that spot:

Hobson, Bowen, and Chatham (Chatham is the least productive)

If they decide to keep all three then they have to let one of the ILBs go:

    Barton, Kassell, Schlegel

or let the Special Teams LB Spencer go.

Of all these guys I think Chatham is the worst and the most expendable.

I have a problem with Bowens taking Hobson's spot. I also want to see if Schlegel and develop into anything so I'd like to see hi mget one more year, and Kassell can still fit in as a backup.

I don't know, maybe I haven't seen enough of them yet, buut as far as I know, none of those LBs should actually be cut based on poor performance. It's too bad, though, because it looks like someone will have to be.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems like everytime Chatham was on the field on defense something bad happened. He is a good special teams player, but we need somebody else in the rotation for LB other than him.

For someone who barely plays, this guy gets an awful lot of press.

Chatham has to realize that he is not that good. I feel the same way as JETS rule, every time he got in, we got torched. I like him on special teams and I like his intensity, but he just isnt talented enough to start on our team. Mangini did for him what he promised by making him a special teams captain and giving him the opportunity to earn a starting role (which he couldnt do). In my opinion, he is pretty expendible.

I dont think Bowen is going to be taking anyones spot he is a situational pass rusher. Don't get too caught up with who is the full time starter and such, were going to be bringing in different players to get matchups that help us most.

To even compare Thomas Jones and Matt Chatham is ridiculous.

I think your right about Bowen being a situational pass rusher and not a full timer. His scouting report makes him seem a little weak against the run (doesnt set an edge well etc) so I suspect Hobson will get most of the snaps at that OLB spot. But this still pretty much cuts Chatham out, since he split time with Hobson last year.

    Well isn't 2 million/year a little expensive for a situational player?
