Was reading this article over at JN and was surprised it wasn't posted here yet. Although no decision has been made on PSLs, it seems one Mr. (and I use that surname loosely) Cross doesn't seem to be against them. His comments are quiet laughable actually. Oh well, I'm still holding out hope that my uppers won't be affected, but 227 I think you're going to be screwed.... http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/f...007-03-28_jet_giant_fans_may_pay_price-1.html Jet, Giant fans may pay price By GARY MYERS DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER Wednesday, March 28th 2007, 4:00 AM PHOENIX - The digging on the $1.7billion stadium the Giants and Jets are building at the Meadowlands is scheduled to begin in May with a couple of the luxury boxes expected to be priced at an incredible $1 million per year. But the average fan may be asked to dig a lot deeper, too, if one or both of the teams require them to pay personal seat licenses to retain their season tickets. The Giants and Jets easily cleared the final barrier to begin construction with a 31-1 vote when only Bengals owner Mike Brown voted against the waiver yesterday that allows each team to carry $715 million in debt and carry it for 25years. The limit, without a waiver, is $150 million over 15years. Giants co-owners John Mara and Steve Tisch said yesterday no decision has been made whether they will make PSLs part of their pricing plan to help pay off the debt. The Jets will make their own decision, and team president Jay Cross also was noncommittal about premiums that would be charged on top of the cost of tickets. There have been estimates that perhaps half the approximately 82,000 seats could come with a one-time PSL price of $5,000 per seat. A handful of the 150 luxury suites may have an annual price tag of $1 million. The good news is for that price, the suite is good for every event at the new stadium, scheduled to open in 2010. The clubs were already approved for $300 million from the NFL's G-3 stadium financing plan. If either team uses the PSL program, which is common at new stadiums but never used by a New York pro sports team, it certainly would cause controversy and potential fan backlash. "We have to sit down with our bankers and go through our financing plan and see where we stand and ultimately we will make a decision," Mara said. "There is a lot of debt to pay off. There is a variety of different ways to do it: club seats, naming rights, sponsorship opportunities. Nobody who has ever built a stadium has ever had to contend with this amount of debt." So why build the new stadium? It will be a huge moneymaker compared to Giants Stadium. The PSLs could bring in $200 million per team. Cross said PSLs can be treated as an asset by the fans because they can turn around and sell it at a profit if they give up their tickets. "I think every team would like to avoid it if possible," Cross said. "On the other hand, it has become a pretty standard feature of financing at ever increasingly expensive facilities. New York has now become one of the most expensive construction centers in the world. Ever since 9/11, there has been an incredible ramp-up. I think, on the flip side, the experience with PSLs is not altogether bad. Fans generally have come to appreciate what they are and the value they bring." Tisch said the Giants first want to determine how much money will be coming in from revenue streams such as naming rights and suites before deciding on PSLs. "At that point, if we need to make up any kind of difference, then we will address the PSLs," he said. The naming rights are expected to be worth $20 million-$25 million per year, split by the Giants and Jets. In addition, the teams will sell naming rights to four main entrances to the stadium.  This line especially makes me laugh Fans generally have come to appreciate what they are and the value they bring. Is this guy serious?????
"Cross said PSLs can be treated as an asset by the fans because they can turn around and sell it at a profit if they give up their tickets." Cross should be careful with this. It's a double-edged sword for them. If they charge me, let's say, $5,000 per ticket, then after having said this there's no way they can balk if the tickets get real hot and somebody wants to pay me $8,000. I should be able to put it on eBay, even, if I want to, with none of the cockamamie objections, not one stinking word, about ticket scalping and profiteering. Do they really want to see ticketholders running around selling and scalping thier seats at a higher price? This is what he's saying above. I can't believe they won't explore everything else before doing this. But even if they do this to their "premium seats" (which I'm assuming perhaps mine fall into), you'd think they'd at least have to offer me some pretty good seats in another section if I didn't want to go along with this, as opposed to just dropping me if I don't want to pay it (or can't). It would just be too unfair to do that to a ticketholder of 27 years and not offer him at least a decent swap to some good seats in another section. Which probably means, all you other guys will have to move over and make room for me, because I'll be in your seats and you'll be out in Oshkosh:breakdance:
You're right, Baamf, this is hilarious. What a pair of balls, to mention PSL's and this in the same breath. What kind of corporate psychobabble is that? We "appreciate" what we are, so we'll gladly pay PSL's? We bring "value," so we won't object to taking it up the @ss? Cross, you are SO on my sh-tlist now, you have no idea.
guess they dont want the real fans there . they want a bunch of yuppie millionires looking to buy psl's as a way to make a profit. This is getting outta control..
Sort of gives a new meaning to the phrase "I bleed Green" Now if they can just guarantee that we don't have to wait over 35+ years for a trip to who knows where, who knows when....
you can thank shyster silver, bungling bruno, and dumbass dolan for all this. but, keep on buying those knicks and rangers tickets...and, don't forget to sign up for crap-elvision cable and internet service.:shit:
Okay, I get the picture. So, every time expenses or PSLs are mentioned concerning the joint venture in the Meadowlands, we need to lament over how and why we let the infamous "WSS" slip away and how things would have been completely different had it gone through. Uh... Okay.....
If this was the WSS, the costs would be at 1.5B for 1 team right now, and the PSLs would be 2-3X more. PSLs are a fact of life boys. If you do not want to cough it up, don't go to the games. It's their stadium, their team, they can charge what they want. You can ch oose not to go, and the market will decide if their pricing is right.
Their stadium, their team at least Gene Simmons being the money loving whore that he is at least thanks the fans for making him what he is today. (a MLW) Cross is being arrogant with this quote... "I think, on the flip side, the experience with PSLs is not altogether bad. Fans generally have come to appreciate what they are and the value they bring." Maybe, "Considering what the fans of this team have had to endure, we will try our best to minimize the financial impact" Soon the Parcells dump trucks and concrete mixers will clog the black snake and life will go on outside the big city and the new West of the West Side Stadium will be born and people will long for the good old days (though they will not return)
 I hate being right! I saw this coming when he announced the proposed W/S stadium. How many of you (me included) can afford to pay a 5K fee just to have the right to pay $150 for a endzone seat. Woody cogratulations you are on your way to ailenating a good portion of your fan base. The Jets were a blue collar team with consruction workers and firemen cheering for them. After this stadium goes up it will be blue bloods cheering  for our boys in Green.
Would be Ok to PSL, only if we had our own stadium and not sharing it with the Gints. Whats up MR. Cross? Bunch of BS !!!!!!!!!
Yeah, the stadium will be filled with assholes that don't give a rat's ass whether the Jets win or lose. And when the downturn comes, and it will, the stadium will be filled with opposing team's fans. Filled up until Halloween. When the calendar turns to November, the seats will not be filled. I don't want to hear that's it a fact of life. Where all the friggin ambulance chasers in the crowd. It's time some legal eagles got together and challenged this crap. As far as I'm concerned they can play at Giants Stadium for another 50 years. What difference does it make since they're still sharing a stadium with the Giants.
Your trying to tell me your starting to build a stadium and you still not sure how its getting paid for?? BULLSHIT!!! This stadment pretty much tell me they are going to charge a psl but we arent sure how to break to the fans yet. Its going to be a shit storm
What's galling is the fact that we all would've accepted the fact that the WSS would've cost a mint and that PSL's would've been assessed. But there's absolutely no reason why a stadium that's sharing the cost between two teams (and fan bases) has to have these PSLs. No reason except for the fact that North Jersey is as corrupt and expensive as New York. PSLs and still sitting on the Mara's lap like a little bitch. Woody's a pussy.
