only the top 51 salaries count against the cap i believe...(random piece of info) and if his 6.1 million is like most contracts...most of it probably comes in year 3, which unless he works out well he probably wont see
The only figure that really matters is the guaranteed $$. So far all we know is that he is guaranteed 750k. This is not much to risk for a guy like him. He only gets 6M if he can stick around for the length of his contract. He will have a lot of motivation to make the team and produce so he can stick around to earn the 6M.
Umm Jake, psst. come over here. Yeah, right here, ok get back here in the shadows next to me so I can whisper this, without the others hearing. Willie was laying on the sarcasm pretty thick....
Thank goodness...no more kimos...does that mean that we messed up with kimo and finally figured it out, or just that kimo is f'in lazy regardless and we've been doin' it like this all along. PS...good info golden god
For the last time, he will not be a DE in our base 3-4 scheme but rather an OLB. I look for him to be a situational pass rusher to pair/relieve BT w/. Also if we decide to give a different 4 man front type look, he'll be able to play that de spot w/ some decent short term success. He adds versatility, pass rushing ability and depth. Can't really say anything bad about the move.
Chill, dog...I was only referring to signing veterans to real money and getting squat out of them...not arguing positions, but if you have anything pertinent to add I'm all ears.
My post was not aimed at you or anyone else in the least. I was simply stating my opinion of the signing and making something clear regarding wha position/role Bowens will play
I like either of those options really. It's a great thing when you have the luxury of having a hard time between two great set of picks
He's the perfect 3-4 OLB for us to have rushing the passer. I think or even know in my gut, that we're drafting a young pass rusher this year. Whether its Robinson, Spencer, Shaw, Tucker, or anyone else Bowens is going to be the guy to help teach them. He's a pure pass rusher, but he's big and fast enough to play the run. Honestly, he's a good all around veteran to have that fits the 3-4 much better than most of the LBs we have. It's a good signing. He offers exactly what we need at LB. Depth, pass rusher, veteran, and can potentially start for us. He'll def. get a significant amount of time on the field.
I don't think so, considering a RG and RT are needed to improve the running game, and LG to be groomed for when Kendall retires. Then you have depth issues all along the line. I would rather get the OL issues fixed sooner rather than later.
No way. Hobson cant play inside, he's way to small. Bowens played DE in the 3-4 in Miami. I dont think he will be playing LB, but you never know.
As someone said those de/lb meetings will be pretty crowded. I like the depth and all. Not in any particular order this is my list of the front seven. D-Line 1. Kimo 2. D-Rob 3. Sean Dough Boy Ellis 4. Kenyon Coleman 5. Bobby should be a coach Hamilton 6. Andre Wadsworth 7. Michael Haynes 8. Siouhe Pouha 9. Rashad Moore 10. CJ Mosley 11. David Bowens LB 1. Vilma 2. Barton 3. Hobson 4. Bryan Thomas 5. Matt Kassell 6. Matt Chatham 7. Cody Spencer 8. Anthony wild boar Schlegal Please let me know if I missed someone because I believe I did. I still want a true big d-tackle. Plus I think we might trade Barton and use Bowens in his place. Just a thought.
What are you talking about? Hobson is bigger than Barton, he is actually the PERFECT size for ILB. And as someone else said, Bowens played 4-3 DE and 3-4 OLB. He will for sure play OLB in our 3-4 system.
I can't wait to see situational rushing with this guy and BT coming off both edges. This is an excellent signing.
Unless you're talking 4-3, Bowens should be in the LB section with Bryan Thomas... they will be playing the same position. Many people have said this in this thread and they are all correct.
Apparently a good signing , good. The thing that has left me scratching my head is that this draft is FULL of DE/OLB talent yet we are still going after roster fillers. One of two things will happen , we are going to play OLB/DE by commitee or there is going to be some intense competition in TC , my guess is the latter.
