Well, if he does become a star (like some have suggested) at least we know we'll be at the center of the next disney sports movie.

I don't see why anyone could not like this move. If he works out, all the better for us. If not....it's not like we're asking him to step in and start for us or anything. It sounds like the guy had a fantastic workout and is hungry to get back into football, despite already being in the money. I like that. Hopefully he can contribute, maybe from the OLB spot considering his size.

We need a lot of bodies in TC. One choice is to go with UFA's. What's the success rate for those guys? Wadsworth at least has the athletic ability to play in the NFL. If it works, great. If not, no loss.

If it does work, the upside is enormous. Either way, Tangini continues to display some creativity and smarts in managing the roster.

Peter Boulware played about 9 full seasons.
    Lincoln Kennedy played around 10...
    Jerry Rice played about 20...
    Bruce Smith played about 15...

Andre Wadsworth probably never played a full season...

I don't think you understood his post or even read it for that matter. You missed the point.....

I love the "no-stone-left-unturned" approach by Tangini. There is virtually no risk. If we get one contributor out of these signings, it will be a stroke of genius.

He actually had a good rookie season....he showed some serious potential....but got hurt and was continually hampered.

In his rookie year he had 5 sacks and 57 tackles (42 solo)

I haven't read everyone's post and don't know most opinions but I look at the Wadsworth signing as a win win. If the guy worksout great we got a player and good for us. If not we say nice story thanks for trying and good luck. Plus I think he will play DE and some LB. As Tangini said no stone will be unturned.

Thought you guys might like this....

Andre Wadsworth & the Cardinals’ defensive line
The Cardinals once-ballyhooed defensive line took another hit, when DE Andre Wadsworth underwent surgery on his right knee Wednesday for the second time. Recovery time is expected to last 6-8 weeks, with Wadsworth missing all of Arizona’s training camp. The team hopes to have him ready for the season opener Sept. 3.
Dr. Richard Steadman, the Cardinals’ team doctor, first performed surgery on Wadsworth's knee Nov. 2, and his rehabilitation had been going as expected until about 10 days ago, when the knee began to swell.

Upon drafting Wadsworth third overall in 1998 to join DE Simeon Rice, DT Mark Smith and DT Eric Swann, the Cardinals believed they had the makings of one of the game’s best defensive fronts of all time. But Wadsworth has been unable to stay healthy, Rice remains unsigned as the team’s franchise free agent and Swann was cut earlier this week.

ProFootballWeekly.com asked associate editors Jeff Agrest and Trent Modglin for their thoughts on Wadsworth and the Cardinals’ DL woes.

Q: Where has Wadsworth gone wrong in his NFL career?

Modglin: Coming out of Florida State, Wadsworth was billed as the best defensive end prospect in years, but he held out and missed all of camp as a rookie, which put him behind at the start. He had a decent rookie campaign, but last year he was a virtual non-factor with his ailing knee. And now he has to battle back from a second surgery, so he won’t be ready to go at the start of the season once again. It’s important that Wadsworth gets his knee back to 100 percent before worrying about fulfilling the expectations the Cardinals — and the rest of the NFL — have for him. There will be plenty of time for sacks later.

Q: Where does the Cardinals’ defensive line go from here?

Agrest: With Wadsworth’s health such a concern, they have to get Rice inked — quickly. Rice is the type of pass rusher who doesn’t really need a serious threat on the opposite side of the line, so he shouldn’t suffer much from not playing with Wadsworth. The Cardinals also need some of their backups to take the next step. That sounds like a lot to ask from rookies Darwin Walker, Mao Tosi and Jabari Issa, but such is life in the NFL. A couple of reserves to keep an eye on include Tom Burke and Brad Ottis. Burke was a stud at Wisconsin, and Ottis is solid and experienced. This will be a huge test for Dave McGinnis, one of the best defensive coordinators in the game. It will be interesting to see how differently he schemes and pressures the quarterback with so much potential turnover from last season.

    Found this too....

    Arizona declines Wadsworth option

The Cardinals declined to exercise the option for the final three years of DE Andre Wadsworth’s contract on Thursday and offered him $512,000 as an RFA. Wadsworth was scheduled to make more than $30 million in the next three years. If another club signs Wadsworth, the Cardinals will be compensated with a second-round pick.

PFW: Is Wadsworth worth a second-round pick?

Buchsbaum: I don’t know. It all depends on the physical. The guy really hasn’t done it in the league and he’s had so many injuries, you don’t know if he’s got anything left or not, or if he’s going to just be a perennial injury guy.

    Here is some more

    Background

1997- One of the greatest pass rushers in FSU and college football history...One of four finalists for Lombardi Award...selected ACC player of the year, Defensive Player of the year...All-ACC First team...selected to the AP All-American team...named a first team All-American and ACC player of the year by Football News and finalist for National Defensive Player of the Year

Former walk-on who led the ACC with 16 sacks for minus-91 yds...second on the FSU single-season record list with those 16 sacks and 23 over his career...tied for the lead among DL with 59 tackles....season-high 8 tackles against USC....rated the No.2 NFL draft prospect by NFL analyst Mel Kiper...4th among DL in tackles and sacks...played in Sugar Bowl...1995- Named 2nd team All-ACC...finished 2nd on team for tackles as a sophomore...3rd on team in solo tackles and tackles for loss....caused a pair of fumbles and recovered 2...registered 3 tackles and a tackle for a loss in Orange Bowl victory over Notre Dame...1994- Force on DL as noseguard...

    Summary
Dominating player that may be top rated guy on many draft boards.. He is a rarity in the NFL draft, a pure 43 defensive end that has enough size to play the run and also the athletic ability and speed to rush off the corner. He played DT earlier in his career before moving to DE, and he has an excellent combination of all the skills required to be a great player. He uses his hands well, protects his body, and spends very little time on the ground. He is an excellent chase guy, and can get over the garbage to make the play. He plays with excellent leverage vs. the run, is strong at the point of attack, and has excellent quickness for a big guy. As a pass rusher, he has a variety of moves, and can use inside quickness, as well as speed off the edge. He has an excellent motor, and works to make the play. This guy is the real deal, and will likely be the first player drafted after the two QBs.

Your lack of knowledge of the Andre Wadsworth subject is very laughable. It amazes me how you sit here and name drop players who were very productive in their careers and try to link it to Wadsworth. Maybe you should go look up some information and then come back here with the knowledge. Wadsworth is a class act and a very smart human being. He had a huge love for the game and during college earned his degree and became a walk on star at Florida State. He played and roomed with Peter Boulware and the two of them were some of the best players ever at FSU. He was drafted 3rd overall and was one of the best players coming out at DE in a long long time.

Unfortunately injuries shattered his career. He was out of football after a few years but he was still successful in his life. This is the kind of character Mangini enjoys having around. Wadsworth showed up to a private workout at age 32 and blew everyone away with his ability. The Jets decided to give the 32 year old a chance during camp. Wadsworth wants to be here and does not need the money. He just wants a chance to prove that he can still play and wants to bring back the love. He is completely healed from his injuries and has kept in shape the past few years.

But the fact you call him a bust and feel this is a bad move for the team just shows your lack of knowledge on the subject. Bringing in guys who want to play football and have a excellent work ethic and ability to surprise people time and time again, is a great low risk high reward kind of move. Great signing by the Jets and this guy will be able to prove you wrong with your bust judgement. If not than there is nothing lost.

Oh yea and by the way, Andre Wadsworth was born on October 19, 1974. That would make him 32 years old. Just so everyone is clear on this.

You don't understand the concept of intelligence do you?.

Just stop posting in this thread. It's clear you have no idea what you're talking about....

My point was he's 32, but he has played very little. Therefore he's not a typical 32 year old player. He was destroyed by injuries and that's why he hasn't played in so long. That's the difference between him and the guys you mention.

Doubtful that he will have success mostly due to his age. How many DEs play or are effective past 33? For him to come into the league at 33 and play at a high level after 6 years off is very unlikely. With that said, I hope I am wrong. Certainly does not hurt to give him a shot.

almost no risk, but the odds of him making the roster are rather remote.

Why are some people here so negative?Did those of you making dumb remarks about signing this guy work him out? Who cares is he is on the team right now?It only counts if he is on the 53 man roster, so DABALL HAWK and co, chill out. Lets not get too excited.Personally I dont think he makes the team, but why not give him the chance to see what he can do in training camp.
