I've been intruiged by some mock drafts which have the jets taking a TE in round 1--IMO that is stupid. Baker is a good TE, and we spent a 5th round pick last year on a good blocking TE. I know we need a CB, a better pass rush, and depth on the lines, but I think we should use one of our second round picks OR the third rounder on a WR. I know Coles and Cotch are great, but we got ZERO depth now behind them. I don't think JMAC will be a jet come June 2, and Brad Smith and Tim Dwight don't cut it. If Coles or Cotch tear up a knee in camp, we're looking at a long year. I am not saying trade up for a WR, but I think using one of the second rounders OR the third rounder for a WR would be wise. Forget reaching at TE.
well said. Brad Smith is a 2nd year player transitioning from Qb to Wr. Tim Dwight is an ok slot. WR has to be addressed. We escaped last year w/o major injuries. I dont like our odds again so much. Like tomdeb said, coles or cotch go down then what?
I thoroughly agree, but I think we need to use one of our top picks on Lamarr Woodley. A healthy defense is already a factor that needs addressing, whereas our WR corps is really only an issue, as tomdeb said, if Coles or Cotch goes down. I say go for a DE/OLB (Woodley), a 1st or 2nd round CB, and then address the WR situation.
Wr is a postion you can get on 2nd day and still find players(like Cotchery). Unless there in love with a player I see us taking a wr on the 2nd day
How bout neither? The Jets should take either a pass rusher, shutdown corner, or top tier O-lineman with 25 (and probably the next two picks too).
I don't want to take a WR on the first day. We drafted Brad Smith to be a WR last year and he's shown us he has some talent. To draft ANOTHER just because Brad Smith isn't yet ready is stupid. As a rookie, it's unlikely he would be a better option than Brad SMith anyway. I know our depth is a concern, but we ARE building it, we've just got to give it time.
You do NOT spend a first round pick on a guy who is going to be a 3rd WR. However, I could see a 2nd round or 3rd round pick. That is fine.
Those mocks have the Jets taking a TE because Greg Olsen would be the BPA not because the Jets depersately need a TE. Olsen could also lineup as a slot WR so really he would upgrading two positions on offense and allowing the Jets to be more creative
he's a downgrade to baker though...i really don't understand why people think he's going to improve this team (let alone even play)...he did NOTHING at miami, nothing...why would that warrant a first round pick? i just don't get it
because you draft a player on potential and ability, not on their COLLEGE stats with horrible QB play
If that is the case then Brad Smith should have a shot to play with his potential and ability and we should concentrate on the O-line and Defense. He has the potential and ability to play if given a fair chance. Did they even throw a pass down the field to him last year?
exactly. i agree depth at WR is an issue but its not as big of an issue as key players on defense and depth at certain defensive spots. cut smith some slack and dwight is getting old but again, they're both reliable. if we went WR on day, as we're proving in the mock draft on these boards, there are plenty of good day 2 WRs out there -- Rhema McKnight, Yamon Figurs just to name 2.
I'd really prefer a corner or a quality front seven guy with that first pick. I'm not sold on Olsen either, and I don't really believe in first round tight ends. I don't think he's the type of tight end they're looking for. -X-
WR is the least or our worries as is TE...1st day should be spent on CB, OL, and OLB...nothing else unless someone ridiculous is available. Maybe I'd be ok with using our 3rd rounder on a WR/TE, but not anything higher considering our NEEDS right now.
I say let's keep working on the lines....Get strong on BOTH sides of the ball....fill in the superstars with second rounders.....you win in the trenches
I think if available you go Revis in the 1st, Woodley/Moses with 2a, offensive guard at 2b and then potentially a receiver or tight end in the 3rd.
